This is important stuff here. I'm glad smart people are out there doing the work. Better geometry in our building designs could great reduce cost of life and property in tornado prone areas. I'd be interested to see what she comes up with.

The word Tornado is an altered form of the Spanish word Tronada, which means "thunderstorm". This in turn was taken from the Latin tonare, meaning "to thunder". so yes,the word tornado is of Spanish origin; and is a combination of "Tronada" (thunderstorm) and "Tornar" (to turn).

Is it possible to build something like that but with the artificial tornado forming from the top to the bottom, so it's more like a non-landspout tornado?

That’s true but that is not the basis of this experiment. She’s studying the affects of pressure on homes in hopes of building them stronger, hence all the little sensors in the model homes and buildings. I’m sure they have other forms of tornados to study the affects they produce on homes as well. This will hopefully enable developers to build homes that can withstand more pressure. It’s a worthy study.

Can we create artificial tornadoes to produce energy?

It would likely be a challenge to produce more energy than it requires to create an artificial tornado, but it sounds like a great thesis - perhaps you should enroll!

@marymoody85226 жыл бұрын
This is amazing. You’re like the millionth person to misunderstand what she is doing. She explained how the tornado forms but that’s NOT the study. Didn’t you notice all those little model homes and buildings? They were loaded with sensors to understand how the air pressure affects different styles of buildings. She even modeled many homes and buildings after ones that were destroyed even though they weren’t in the direct path of the twister. Her hope is to help find more durable ways to build homes and buildings in areas prone to tornados so they don’t collapse under pressure. This study, and others like it, will enable developers of the future to come up with better building codes that will increase the chances of survival with the least amount of property damage.

The best way to understand a tornado would be if we could make a small scale one without a fan, that's cheating. If we can make the flow from moisture, a heat source etc... than we would really understand a tornado.

We're not trying to understand a tornado with this. We're studying the way structures react to tornadic forces and how to make them stronger.
