Vortex experiment 2013-05-15. This set up is relatively easy to build, and it will get you a free tornado (not contained by a box). Enjoy!

Thanks Michael :-) I think this is the best and easiest setting for creating a "free" tornado (not inside a box). Let up-scale this! It is very sensitive though; a friend lay down on the ground to get the tornado on his belly, but the airflows got disturbed, tornado disappeared.

Ha! Well Dalhats, I am locked up in my head, kind of like stephen hawking; not able to do much other than thinking. I can still talk though, and move my head. Maybe I should stop doing that to get on the same level... While we are at this, Stephen, if you are reading this, check out the communication tools of assistiveware. SwitchXS for example, may be handy.

Very interesting subject. I was doing once, similar experiments, I pulled some conclusions. Unfortunately I can not share because they do not know your language

The one I used is about 700W, the fan is old, was dirty broken and enclosed. It's a centrifugal fan with backward-curved blades. Besides cleaning, we only had to fix one electric part; the capacitor. These fans are being used all over the place. Keep an eye on trash from companies! (or ask for a cheep old one).

AWESOME Giesbert!!! I was hoping you would do a tornado like that! I did one like that once in the back room that use to be a screened in porch. I set the ceiling fan in the mode where air is pulled up and then two fans to get air spinning then add the mist maker and had a nice floor to ceiling tornado. If I my woodworking shop had a much larger room on it with upstairs I would do that all the time and even use wood smoke and the updraft exhaust would go out. See my new top bar beehive?

It looks like the vortex and the top fan are counterrotating, and every time the vortex hits the fan, it slows it down, weakening the updraft. After the vortex somewhat dies down, the fan gets back up to speed, and the vortex gains power, hits the fan again, while slowing it back down again. (making that squealing sound)

Sorry if it’s a tad long plus I’m 19 graduated from Mountain Brook high school on May 24th of this year and even though people say that I was kind of good in English punctuation was not one of my strong suits that’s why when I type it seems like a run on unless someone helps me likena teacher parent or a friend who is good at this type of stuff and wants to or would want to and if I ever did this or if it’s even possible I would want it to be on a small scale because if giants were real then lightning would just shock them and instead of kill them and if anyone ever tried this it would just shock them and if it were a toy person or small critter it would probably kill them

I had something typed but it freaking disappeared Because it went to the next Vania and I didn’t think this was possible until like this year or maybe last year but I seen videos at Science museum are making lightning plus I’ve seen it at the electricity show Up at the science Museum in Boston where they make it with metal balls and in school today but I was wondering if you go up in the attic with an electrical box that makes a negative charge for a positive charge put it on the floor in the Atlantic turn it on and do the same for the bottom but with the opposing charge it would do nothing Basically I was wondering if you are at Claunch with the positive and negative charge on could you make lightning in your room without using balls were like on a small scale version of lightning and not an intense scale Just to make it look more real instead of fake because in real life when you see lightning you don’t see two large balls never thought of me saying that You were just the clouds So I wasn’t sure if you can do the exact same thing in your room positive on the ceiling and negative on the ground and the lighting and go from the ceiling to the floor plus I cannot find this on the Internet to help me and I was wondering if it be too dangerous to run so I wasn’t sure if you can do the exact same thing in your room positive on the ceiling and negative on the ground and the lighting and go from the ceiling to the floor plus I cannot find this on the Internet to help me and would this be too dangerous to do by I mean I want to make realistic lightning bolts but don’t want to die or burn h ceiling or floor
