Many teachers claim “note for note” on how to play a song, but never cover it completely. You sir are the closest to Jimi I have heard for this song, particularly when you play the solo. Thank you so much for sharing with us. Cheers! 👍👍

Such a great lesson!! There's tons of lessons on this classic but you have really got these leads precise! I've tried learning this song in the past but when I play it, it just doesn't sound correct. I even went as far as to "TRY" and learn this with my guitar strung for a lefty, lol!! Thank you for taking the time to learn it and being as close as you possibly can to sounding like Jimi without being Jimi!! Your format or style of teaching is really quite easy and comfortable to follow along to without getting frustrated. I look forward to more of your videos and have a happy new year 2024!! Aloha!!

This bloody song has driven me nuts for a lifetime ha ha! Honestly, it's only recently that I've been able to correctly hear the intro (starts on the "and" of beat 3) without the aid of a drum track/count-in from a play-along track or demo track. The next worst offender is The Who's Magic Bus (Jasus!!!!, I have a very strong Love/Hate relationship with that song Ha ha!) ... and of course there is Deep Purple's "Maybe I'm a Leo" which seems to morph into a completely different riff at the 13 second mark?!? I actually love that though, both riffs sound fantastic! (I hear the intro as starting on the "down" beat of one, but then the correct riff appears to me at the 13 second mark as actually starting on the "and" of beat one!) Anyway, enough of that twaddle,; Fantastic work as always, Mr. Chain!

@12footchain
@12footchain Жыл бұрын
Thank you. The description has the pedals, but yeah I had 2 amps running. I have a boss harmonization to split the signal (pedal not on though), then ultimately stereo out to 2 amps. In this vid I think I ran out into my super reverb and my 50w marshall, mic both and mix in along with whatever the lapel mic picks up.

On the songs I ve seen , You always do an INCREDIBLE JOB I play Bass but I like to know what the Lead guitar is doing , so if I can add to it if it is possible in the right place . On some songs I do part of vocal line while keeping the low end , usually with CCM on sunday morning. We usually do 5 different songs every week, we do not repeat songs every week . I was saving songs in Binders unto I had over 300 , now I don't save them . Been playing 43 yrs.

Nice lesson, but I wish you had talked about the timing on the intro solo. It’s quite tricky because the “one” beat is not where you think it is, and if you count it wrong, it feels like there’s an extra beat before the verse starts.
@12footchain
@12footchain Жыл бұрын
You're right, didn't even think of that. Starts on the "3 and" , right?
@jakollee
@jakollee Жыл бұрын
@@12footchain yes! But I find it’s very hard to “hear” it with all that’s going on during the intro, including what sounds sort of like kettle drums! It’s actually easier to hear the timing on the live version at Isle of Wight.
@dwl231
@dwl231 Жыл бұрын
Excellent point! At 71 years old now I have NEVER been able to pick the start point, and I am to this day hearing on the wrong side of the beat. The beginning of “I’m Free” on Tommy did the same thing to me until one day way back I got it. As a lifelong guitar player this has always driven me crazy about All Along The Watchtower… I can play the notes in my sleep, but the timing is always wrong until the song gets going.

Jimi never played it like the record. You also don't sound like the record. Why should you? Everyone should sound like themselves anyway. All this copying stuff is just plain stupid. Imagine if all the key players just wanted to sound like their idols. There would never be EVH, Trucks, Beck etc. Sure it's cool to learn other stuff. It's necessary to some extent but to be obsessed by this "sound like xy" crap.....thats just not healthy.
