If the lid gets a 'vapor lock' after canning and the canner has cooled down, which happened to me. The lid would not come off. I found my very heavy duty steel can / bottle opener and slowly and gently went around the lid and pried the lid loose. After that like you, I greased my lid well before canning.

Yes, mine was in the attic for 20 years. Store upright, as the gauge cardboard has laid over in the path of the needle, but I don't think it will bother anything today. Will lay it the other way this time... Well, can't believe the label behind the gauge needle is cardboard and it has warped, stops the needle. So, big fail today, will try to take it apart when cools, else will buy a new gauge for 20 bucks. Nice to know I can upgrade to the weight system for another 40, but holding off for now. Very disappointed that cardboard isn't painted aluminum. Ah, was able to pry off gauge cover and push back, good enough.

That looks just like my AllAmerican canner. I had to replace the little 'hook' on the lid, and one of the bakelite screw tops. These are definitely made to last a few lifetimes. People get excited over the purchase price of these, ok. divide the purchase price by 50 years of service, and add in all the money you save by canning your own food, and they more than pay for themselves. I also marked my canner with a sharpie magic marker on the two arrows to make it easier to align up the arrows.

Good to know about the vasaline ... I had heard that before and I'm about to use mine for the first time. I imagined the nightmare of not being able to remove the lid and trying not to break all the precious jars inside while wrestling with the lid!

I bought a used one two months ago and it looks just like yours. My first canner was a Presto . I saved up to get my All American pressure canner and I don't have a manual and I don't know the size anymore than the 7 quarts or 8 pints. I think I'm going to have some good years with it, learning as I go... thank you for sharing

Our neighbor past away and their son gave me 250 jars of all sizes ,a presto canner, a presto cooker and this same all American canner. I can’t find the model number. It’s on the bottom (supposedly) but for some reason the plaque is gone. All I see is the 15. But I did find out you can get a replacement lid with all of the stuff on it. If I knew the model.

Hi Susan, Mine is 15 1/2 quarts . ( have no idea of the model number ) . I do know you can get replacement parts for the lid. And thumb screws. As for a new lid , I did not know about that. Thank you for stopping by the farm today.

Hi so glad to see your video. I'm using my American standard with a peatcock valve 1st time an is it bad that it doesn't vent during the canning process at 12 pounds. I'm using hardly any propane which is fantastic if its working correctly

I picked up an older one at a yard sale for $50 ,10 yrs & just took it out today. It says it’s a 910 on the box & doesn’t have any instructions …but there is no pressure regulator just a thing like you have that you can open. So to pressure can, I just open that after 10 min? Great video…loved it
@LittlePieceofHeavenFarm

Hello If it’s set up like mine. With gauge and pressure valve . Have the valve, sticking straight up , for 10 minutes letting steam out. Then flip the top part over ( it should fold over ) this will then build pressure and watch your gauge . Then while it’s processing keep an eye on the gauge so it doesn’t drop below your elevation pressure you need. You’ll need to make adjustments and find the sweet spot on your stove for that burner you are using the canner with. I love my “ old war horse” ! She has done the job well. Enjoy yours!

One thing I found out today there’s no way this one would hold quart bottles…I did do a water bath & used it for my mustard pickles today in jars & the pint jars just fit…& left room for me to put water to cover the tops by 1 in…so yours Is definitely bigger than mine…that’s a bummer tho…for me..😪

I have different videos using this canner. Just make sure if you use this that the gage is working correctly and the cockpit is clear of debris. In mine I use about 21/2 - 3 quarts of water. And oil the lid or you won’t get it off. If you watched this video , I explain how to use it. It depends on the water level in some All American Canners. But they all work the same. Thank you for your comment & watching.

@LittlePieceofHeavenFarm
@LittlePieceofHeavenFarm Жыл бұрын
It shouldn’t leak around the edge of the lid. Make sure it’s seated on correctly. The thumb screws should all line up correctly also. They shouldn’t be tight going into the slot. Also check to make sure the rim of the lid and the pot base isn’t warped . No one has drop this right?
@Marshalorn5
@Marshalorn5 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for this video! I would like to know if steam should be escaping from around the edges? I am testing before I can something to see how she works. I also bought used and am trying to figure it out. My canner does not have a safety valve on the lid, could that make a difference with steam escaping around edges? Which video shows you using this canner.
@LittlePieceofHeavenFarm
@LittlePieceofHeavenFarm 2 жыл бұрын
Steam should not be escaping around the lid edges; it could be the lid may not be tightened down enough. Using the All American Canner is no different than any other canner, except the way the lid goes on. Pressure Canner 101 (Same practice used on all canners) : kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2S3mKl9jad1hLs

If my pressure went up past what I need do I have to start over?
@LittlePieceofHeavenFarm
@LittlePieceofHeavenFarm Жыл бұрын
No, you don’t need to start over, just turn down the heat. If it does go below the pressure needed, then you’ll have to start over. So if the pressure is to high, just turn down the heat dome. Eventually you’ll find that sweet spot.
