Fun fact: The Adventure Vision only had 4 games so not only you checked out all the arcade ports, you checked out every single game on the system.

Haha good point. Despite it only having 4 games I really want to get one since it's such a unique system.

Working Adventure Vision systems are *very* hard to come by now, because they're partially mechanical.

I'd love to get one of those even if not functioning correctly because it's such a cool piece of video game history that never gets talked about.

I will need to research the adventure vision. It seemed to do okay for what it is! Thank you for the showing of a lesser known system Bill!

Thank you for watching! I hadn't heard of this until a year or two ago. It seems like a cool thing for a "handheld" from 82. I'd love to get my hands on one of these but I'm sure that the next time one goes up on Ebay it will cost a small fortune.

I had to look it up too! Found a cool video where they took one a part. It had an LED strip and a spinning mirror inside a portable case. I would have never seen it if it wasn't for this video. Pretty neat little machine!

@@f.k.b.16 Exactly a really neat system, I would own it for display purposes. As a few have said it has a virtual boy vibe to it lol. Knowing how it is designed the games do even better than expected lol!

@@f.k.b.16 That's cool! I'll have to check that video out. I've been very fascinated with these really old consoles lately.

Thanks to the Adventure Vision, I finally understand what it is like to have a Virtual Boy headache. I will never make fun of Virtual Boy haters again. ....although...I cannot hate it. Look at that tiny resolution. Those spinning mirrors. This is a cool as hell prop from an Oz movie, not an actual commercial product.

Rumor has it, well I'm starting this rumor right now, that this system inspired the Kenny Rogers Seinfeld episode.

I think so too. It's not bad for a "handheld" from this time period.

About time you attempted a STRENUOUS "every game" comparison compilation video, lazybones! ;) I never thought you'd get out of the Sega Genesis and SNES kiddie pool... Kidding, kidding. I have never heard of Adventure Vision, but it seems like it might be the Virtual Boy's great-grandpa with that color scheme. In its defense, I really like its take on those arcade ports given the fairly limited hardware and display it seemed to be working with. All of those looked like fun, playable versions of the arcade games they were trying to represent, even if the graphics were clearly a big step down.

Lmao! I'll admit that after spending a couple of thousand hours on that Every Arcade vs 2nd Gen Consoles video that I went for some low hanging fruit. I needed something in place of the DC vs N64/PS1 videos until I can get my hands on a RGB modded 64 or get my UltraHDMI repaired and these obscure consoles with 4 or 5 games seemed to do the trick without completely breaking me. I mean I know everyone is clamoring to see the Adventure Vision or GX4000 vs the arcade right...right?? This did surprise me with how competent the ports were for a "handheld" system even if I don't personally agree that this is a true handheld. All of these games are good representations of the original for such limited technology. Now if someone can port these to the Virtual Boy everything will come full circle. I mean who hasn't dreamt of playing a 1982 obscure Asteroids clone from an obscure system on Nintendo's biggest hardware failure?

@@RetroComparisons *Raises hand* "Me, me, me!" Speaking of the Virtual Boy, I've been reading a really cool book called "Virtual Boy Works" that covers the whole library of that little system. If you can find a VB emulator and feel like you ever need another "low-hanging fruit" week, I think that system's cross-console offerings (Virtual Boy vs. ANYTHING ELSE) could do the trick. The only true cross-platform game it hosted was the Bomberman falling-block puzzle game "Panic Bomber", though you might be able to make a real stretch and say "Mario Tennis" on Virtual Boy and "Mario Tennis" on Game Boy Color are two iterations of the same title. Apart from that, the library is totally exclusive to the best of my knowledge. I actually have a Virtual Boy, though I only ever got two games for it (Mario Tennis and Wario Land). It was never going to be a huge success, though it could have been more of a "financial disappointment" and less of a "catastrophic failure" if Nintendo had stuck with it a little longer and supported it even a full year or two -- not an unheard-of lifespan for a console add-on or experiment in the wild and wooly gaming market of the 90s.

@@baronhausenpheffer That's an intriguing idea, thanks for the suggestion! I always just assumed there were no crossover games so it never crossed my mind. I'd be interested in reading that book. I love reading about cool little systems like that or even something like the Adventure System, Super Cassette Vision, etc. since there's not 10,000 videos covering them on youtube. That's so awesome that you have a Virtual Boy! I wanted one so bad as a kid and like 5 years ago I saw one on ebay for less than $100 and I stupidly didn't get it. Do you know if there's a flashcart for it? I think you're spot on with that take that it wouldn't have been a catastrophic failure had it been around longer. Nintendo had their own 32X moment with that which is another console that I think could have done at least a little better had they spent more than 6 months promoting it.

Given the capabilities of the system, it doesn't do too bad. I'm not sure if I've seen footage of the games, but I was vaguely familiar with the name of the system. The ports might not be great today, but I think they would have been acceptable at the time of release. The games certainly are not as nice looking as games on the Vectrex, but they seem fun. I have to say too that at least these version of Super Cobra scrolls smoothly, which is better than some of the other ports of it or Scramble.
@RetroComparisons
@RetroComparisons Жыл бұрын
I think Super Cobra was almost better than the Odyssey 2 and Gakken TV Boy which is pretty impressive for what it was. It's a shame this system got so few games ported to it because it seems pretty far ahead of its time for something that was less than half the price of the Vectrex. I've got some more obscure consoles on the way until I get the N64 back up and running. I know there's going to be at least 10 people in the world excited to see how the Super Cassette Vision, GX4000 and PV-1000 compared to the arcade.
