Yo can I just put here that Colress is the nicest antagonist in all of the pokemon games? Look, we have: -a leader of an organization that steals pokemon just like that -some peeps that caused a natural disaster being lead by their ideals -guy that wants to create a whole new universe while completley erasing the former one - guy that wants to rule over the world with an iron fist, his lead pokemon has frustration, he later returns with intentions to freeze the whole Unova region -a guy that just wants to kill everyone And then you have Colress: -gives you stuff occasionally - "hey let's fight, but i'll wait until you're ready" - not agressive towards the protagonist(s) - is probably not interested in the slightest in the Team Plasma Neo's ideals (stealing pokemon) - gives you freebies (again) - sends bad people to the shadow realm in US/UM - has a deadass theme that is only revealed upon his final battle in the story, even if you fight him before Forgive me if i made mistakes

For some reason, even though I played this last year at the age of 23, I'm dumb enough that I didn't think Colress was an antagonist, despite playing pokemon since I was 4. The start of the new music and the fight against actually scary pokemon after that revelation was fucking awesome.

Haha, same for me. I didn't play BW, so, I actually assumed he was ex-Team Plasma and therefore a "good guy". The plot twist hit me pretty hard too. Plus his team was definitely the first REAL battle of the game. Honestly he was harder than Ghetsis/Iris, at least to my team which was hard countered by his. Pretty incredible and fitting music too. I love how it and the battle with Colress itself puts the whole "science vs superstition" thing into perspective. I mean, in the game (moreso lore than gameplay), it's a fight to prove whether maximizing your Pokemon through technology and practical techniques, or simply treating them with affection and care is the better method of Pokemon training. It kinda parallels with the Truth vs Ideals motif from the last game as well. In the music, it manages to be poignant sounding (IMO) while still containing many mechanical _beeps_ and _boops._ Definitely a blend of the two clashing perspectives being tested in the battle.

Colress confused me for the longest time. I knew he was a villain before I played the games, but I realised half way through, he doesn't really do anything that bad. He's so confusingly morally neutral. That's why he's now one of my favourites characters.

When I did my first play through of BW2, I remember my jaw dropping after finding out Colress was apart of Team Plasma. However, not for the purpose of evil or of Ghetsis's manipulation, but for the purpose of advancing his own research. He was one of the only neutral antagonists in the series, which makes his character that much more intriguing to me.
