This time I had to hope and pray to the gacha RNG to get all new characters including the Yuki, Mont, and Seiji, which I accidentally deleted the videos of from Beta 1. After that, I had to get Rin. The first OC 5* Gacha character. Her banner does NOT guarantee that you can get her, even if you get any of the original PT's first. So I got Rin after 200+ pulls, and immediately made this video. My friend made a good point about these new characters. They could easily carry their own game by themselves. My two cents is while they could, the fact they are alongside the old characters we already know and love makes the style changes REALLY noticable. If you compared Zorro to Rob Roy, or Arséne to Janosik, you can see a clear difference in the style. And especially so with the cognitive character personas.

1:22 Leo is my favourite out of the bunch. Love his Henshin Hero aesthetic. He's like Naoto, Akechi, Konoe and Ken. A shame he doesn't seem to be plot relevant and seemingly just a Phantom Idol. Hopefully we meet these characters in game in the real world even if they are side characters. Bonus if they have their own confidants.

You can meet them in the real world. In fact, Okyann does appear and talk to you in the real world, and all the characters have real world sprites, with Leo and Okyann looking much different. It's implied their Phantom Idol versions are younger versions of themselves. You can check Leo's real world sprite on the wiki.

An odd (somewhat minor) issue that still seems to be present with the aoa’s in this game is a noticeable lack of the same thump as in P5. I took some time but upon a side by side comparison (I’m fairly certain) there seems to be a slight delay in the camera and character impact that I think is the primary issue. There also seems to be a slight increase in the speed for the impact it self which makes things some parts feel a bit jarring. If there’s something else anyone has noticed, please feel free to share

I also noticed a slight lack of foreground elements and object animations in P5X AoAs compared to original, For example in P5 you would have tapes moving in front of Ryuji’s AoA, barb wires in front of Akechi’s, and (a significant number of) rose petals in Kasumi’s. In P5X it’s mostly just Stylish background + Character’s AoA pose plastered in front, albeit with a few exceptions.

Animations are great, transition from 3d to 2d is smooth. But most of AOAs feel like they lack character. Maybe I just lack personal connection to them yet and animations don't feel earned.

They are very simple in movement, and feel lacking. Most of them, at least. The Hero one, the mascot one and the ice skating one were the most expressive, with the mascot one being surprisingly smooth for my taste.

I think it's because they don't really do much for build-up. Like, Mont and Cattle (I believe those are the codenames) do really nice stuff with their AOA build-ups. Mont twirling on the ice skates and Cattle really going ham on the phone. There might be a run or a jump but other than that, they immediately go to pose. In P5/R, the characters always do something to add that extra bit of flair (Joker adjusting one glove before the other, Mona and Noir's set pieces falling, Skull springing up after faceplanting, Panther twirling, Fox being Fox, Queen emphasizing the power _for_ the pose, Oracle and the bomb, Crow with the dance and the skyward scream, and Violet ribbon dancing) and it also adds to the characters themselves. Here it adds more to the... Theme around the characters? If that makes sense?. Maybe that's why I like the mascot's AOA most.

Compared to P5 a lot of these feel weirdly stilted. Also I'd just like to point out that their shadows are shown at the beginning of the all out attack and then disappear. Some of the portraits looks distorted in the part where the glass breaks but I can't remember if it was like that in P5 or not. Overall though the P5 all out attacks look a bit better. Not to say these look *bad* but they're not as good as the originals. Anyways thanks for all the hard work required to get these!

I'll say it then. AOA made like it's Unity Tutorial Video on KZbin "How to make Persona 5 AOA". Some characters animation send to be lost in production and this was video is best to show Gacha fodder vs rare pulls. I'll go play P5 or any other better game, rather than taint my P5 memories.

@@invertbrid First of all, I'd much rather judge things based on what they're like now than what they *might* *possibly* change in the future, which there's also zero indication of. Second, the animations seem very clearly to be a stylistic decision so they likely won't be changed, especially since they'd have to change just about all of them. I can imagine them fixing the shadows since that seems unintentional but I don't seem any indication they'll change anything else in these all out attacks.

I mean, between it being in beta and not in a high end device (it's supposed to run on mobile) I wouldn't judge it harshly on the graphics front. A mobile game needs to play well and run well. That should be their first concern. Your game could look as good as Hoyoverse's, but if it doesn't play well, it won't last more than 2-3 years, even carried by a big brand. We see that happen often.

​@@FazPersona keep in mind some mobile games have cases of having default name mostly for those who won't want to think with an option to customise, so it's possible they might implement the default name feature in future tests and official releases. Though due to the nature of the franchise, it looks like the player has to think of a name. At the same time, I noticed that even though Ren is the canon name of P5 mainline protagonist, even shown in the 2nd beta trailer in the highlight attacks, they still stick to the codename Joker in character selection/gacha. Likely to respect the idea of the mainlines needed to create names for the protagonist. Though hoping that they will stick Joker as Ren Amamiya in character selection name in future updates.
