Had AB centre Craig Innes not gone to rugby league in 1992 it is possible Frank Bunce may never have had a regular spot in the AB team as incredible as that may sound. Innes was the incumbent All Black centre and was still only 22 when he left, New coach Laurie Mains may well have stuck with him during his coaching reign 1992-95. But as know Bunce hung around in 1992 aged 30 and got his big break with Innes gone and the rest is history.

Love this era of pre-professional rugby. Amazing Wallaby and AB sides.

Why we're all here, Pat. The "rugby" played today is not even close.

This is vintage stuff from my hometown and on my birthday to boot. I noticed the Lion Brown ad too. Night games suck. Best to kick off at 2pm than have to wait all day.

JK's try was awesome. I agree with Keith Quinn he did leave Campo behind.

@laurizis The lineout was originally contested with teams jumping unsupportedl. However, lifting in the lineout was later introduced & under Law 19 of the IRB rules, players are now allowed to pre-grip and lift in the lineout. It is thought that lifting in the lineout was first introduced by a Trafford MV RFCC B Millington in the early 1980s. In truth, I reckon it was popularised and found it's way into law when RSA rejoined world Rugby at the end of Apartheid, as they were already doing it.

In the Tests in the All Blacks tour of South Africa, 1976, the Springbok forwards in the lineouts lifted like Otis elevators. When the All Blacks captain, Andy Leslie tried to talk to the referee about it in one game he was told to keep quiet or he would be penalised. so, in the fourth test, the All Blacks tried some lifting of their own and got penalised. That's what touring teams had to put up with back then, from South African referees. Once the laws changed and Tests had to be controlled by neutral referees, the playing field suddenly got very level and Springbok teams at home had to play with only fifteen men, rather than sixteen.
11 of this Wallaby side had played against The Lions the previous year

Craig Innes was a good player for New Zealand, shame he went to rugby league.
@rh5466 Жыл бұрын
I understand him to have been on the fringes of AB selection, with preference given to Little and Bunce once Bunce came over from Samoa. Innes' move was rather rational. Wanted to play.
@robertboyle2573 Жыл бұрын
@@rh5466 He wasn't on the fringes of the all Blacks, he was a regular first team player.

Night games make for crappy backline stuff. Afternoon games always give better running rugby. Unfortunately NZRFU is now pandering to TV audiences .

Campese is rubbish. He was soft/couldn't tackle/never hit a ruck or maul/was scared of being tackled so rarely made many hit ups/threw panic passes. He was quick but had to many weaknesses.
