10:06 Chinese here. The headless guy is not singing in standard mandarin, but with a strong northern accent of that region. Though this is obvious to all chinese audiences, it may not be the case for westerners. So I think that's why Game Science deliberately chose a scottish accent which is also a "northern accent" for the english version, to give a similar vibe.

@@Kodiakhunter the wording of this game in general is somewhat different from daily spoken mandarin, nor is it pure ancient chinese, but somewhere in between. Accent wise Lingi speaks in mandarin but sings in dialect. It would be too hard for average chinese to understand the semi-ancient script spoken in a dialect without any subtitles. I think that's why they let Lingi speaks in mandarin eventually.

A lot of these enemies don’t seem like bad guys. Sure a lot of them do horrible things, but a lot of them also do very good things, like the yellow wind sage saving the villagers from the massive beetle and sparing a lot of his enemies after they attacked him. The tiger brothers too, the eldest brother had a moral code to protect and not hurt the innocent, and the younger one helped cure a sick child. Hi, Chinese here, fist of all thank you so much for doing the heavy lifting, I appreciate that you let many people recognize how good the plot is in BMW. Also, I’d like to share some of my thoughts and insights on what went through the Yellow Sage’s mind from start to finish. 1. When he was caught stealing lamp oil from Lingshan, the Sage had no choice but to obey Buddha LingJi. From the start, he didn't like Buddha LingJi. 2. The Sage believed that by doing good deeds for humanity, he could gain recognition or even a position in the Celestial Court. However, after helping people during the Yellow Wind incident, LingJi punished those who trusted the Sage. Disheartened by this, the Sage left, feeling deeply disappointed. 3. After being defeated by Wukong and LingJi during the Journey to the West, the Sage once again found himself with no choice but to obey Buddha LingJi. At this point, he pretty much lost hope and probably accepted his fate. 3. Later, during a battle that killed Wukong, the Sage obtained a piece of relic. Seeing an opportunity to gain power, the Sage, fueled by anger, decapitated LingJi and fled with both the relic and the head. He believed that, with LingJi's head, he could've consumed the relic and became as powerful as Wukong-so powerful that even the Celestial Court would have to grant him a position. 4. The head of LingJi, in my opinion, had a strange effect on the Sage and everyone who is gaining it. Once the Sage obtained it, he no longer cared about those who worshipped him. He ordered Tiger Vanguard and Stone Vanguard to guard the entrance to his valley, locked himself away, and began practicing with the intent of consuming the relic. This led to environmental destruction, and Tiger Vanguard even started eating many rats, but the Sage didn't care. Notably, when LingJi became the headless monk, he actually did a lot of good for the villagers. But after reattaching his head, he never opened his eyes again and reverted to his previous behavior, embodying the idea that becoming a Buddha or something exalted often leads to neglecting ordinary people's life/needs. 5. In many ways, the Sage was very similar to Wukong. Both possessed tremendous power and sought recognition from the Celestial Court. Wukong was fortunate enough to achieve that, although he was eventually restrained and attempted to break free. The Sage, however, was unlucky and became the kind of person he despised. This explains his dialogues during repeated battles with the Destined One-the Sage knew he was in the wrong thing and wished for the Destined One to end his suffering.

Sadly, this is a very wrong and slanderous presentation of Buddhism
@puertea25373 ай бұрын
@@thug4lyfe I get what you meant, but it never was about Buddhism. Think of it as something like a fan made fiction of Lord of the rings - all the characters have the original names but represent totally different things. For both blackmyth wukong and Journey to the West, all the gods in the celestial court or buddhas represented the political structure of the Ming/Qing dynasty in China. They are much more human like and relevant to our ordinary life. The main theme of both titles NOT about telling the reader to believe in buddhalism, Taoism, or any religions, it's about revealing how ruling class oppresses ordinary people, and encourage people to resist against it.

This chapter has the best story imo. You can never see the whole picture. Who is the villain? What really happened? Every piece of information we get is subjective, but fragments of the past told from a dozen fixed perspectives. Yet nothing can be considered a proof except the results, and thus we never get a definitive explaination of the full picture, of what really happened all those years ago. And funnily, while the popular explaination is that Lingji is the bad guy, we can also cook up a theory where Yellow Wind is less righteous than he seemed, Lingji not as much as a villain, and this theory would also not contradict anything given in the lore. We can only believe what we are led to believe- or rather, what we want to believe. And this theme corresponds perfectly with the 2nd relic. Absolutely amazing story here.
@papab332 ай бұрын
Yes, the relic obtained in the second chapter is called "Ear Hears Fury" in Chinese. The meaning of this phrase is "anger at what is heard through both ears." These simple three characters convey the idea of people becoming enraged upon hearing rumors without careful thought, leading to impulsive actions. This mirrors the behavior of certain characters in the second chapter, as well as the reactions of players after seeing the story. Players are only presented with this version of the narrative, but in reality, it’s possible that Lingji is actually a good person, while the Yellow Wind sage may not be as kind and just as he appears.

Wonderful video! Clearly you've put A LOT of love and effort into it, and the quality no doubt speaks to that!! Can't wait for part 3!! One small correction: The Father of Stone left not because he wanted to follow the evil Stone Guai, but because he wanted to bring a helpless and abused human girl back to life. You will meet him in Chapter 5, the Flaming Mountain. You can read his portrait after defeating him. It's quite sad. The Son of Stone set out to find his father at his mother's request, as she, being a mountain deity, is forbidden from leaving the mountain. However, instead of heading west to the Flaming Mountain, the son went east and ended up at Mt. Huaguo (Chapter 6). There, he became so mesmerized by the giant cricket that he just sat there and chilled, which is why when you light attach him, he merely swipes you away. And this is just my personal take: I think the Yellow Wind Sage was aspired to do good. Otherwise, he would have had no reason to help the king tame Fuban while merely passing by. But when he saw what Bodhisattva Lingji did to the entire nation-reducing everyone to rats out of spite, in mockery of their admiration for him, a yaoguai- he was shaken to the core, changed, and left Kingdom of Sahali in doubt of everything he believed before. Bodhisattva Lingji is a hypocrite. He was still lying to us, the destined one, even in the final cut scence.

I hope to add a little bit of detail/ information about the Tiger Acolytes. The child of the "Tiger Acolytes" boss is actually also a tiger acolyte. The name Tiger Acolytes, or "虎伥,” actually originates from ancient Chinese mythology. In mythology, the tiger would trap the ghosts of humans it eaten and turn those ghosts into its paws-- "伥鬼“(in some versions of the mythology, threaten them to become its paws or otherwise their souls would be trapped by the tiger forever.) The tiger acolytes(虎伥) would show up in the evening and trick those passers-by into the territory of the tiger so that the tiger could eat them. They would also disarm traps for the tiger so that the tiger could avoid hunters. The mythology later developed into a Chinese idiom--"为虎作伥“ (usually translated as "play the jackal to the tiger"), the idiom is used to scold those scumbags that were hurt by evil but would turn their ways to help evil and harm the innocent. One thing that is worth noting is that in the original mythology, the tiger acolytes (虎伥)are ghosts, but the Tiger Acolyte boss we fought in game is alive. If you finished the Mad Tiger secret mission, you might notice something rather interesting. At the last step of the mission, the ghost of the child would trick the destined one into jumping into the well where the Mad Tiger hides so that the Mad Tiger could devour the destined one, just like what his father did with the villagers. The child actually became a more lore-accurate tiger acolyte than his father after becoming a ghost, thus making both the father and son tiger acolytes.
@EricXu13353 ай бұрын
It is also worth mentioning that the child and the Mad Tiger actually formed quite a strong and positive emotional bond. The Mad Tiger boss went completely mad and became the Mad Tiger we see in-game after realizing the child was dead. It is presumed that this is the exact reason for the recovered mad tiger to continue to trap itself in the well: after losing the only friend it made, the Mad Tiger lost all expectation for the outside world.

and besides, I want to correct the story about Guangmou in Chapter 1. In fact, Guangmou had resented Elden Jinchi for a long time, so after hearing about Guangzhi's plan, he took advantage of the fire to let Sun Wukong get rid of Elden Jinchi. the portraits described:"Guangmou glimpsed an untamed malice in the monkey's eyes--a hunger for vengeance.Building on Guangzhi's gambit,Guangmou goaed and prodded, weaving a merciless plot that left no room for escape." and"the world harbors such petty souls,capable of ensnaring the lofty and vanquishing them with cunning plots.Perhaps this is what is meant by'slaying with a borrowed blade'." this guy is just lived up to his name--wise strategy,but after all, it's just some little tricks,lead the fire to himself one day in the future.

The fighting styles of Guangzhi and Guangmou also correspond to a Chinese idiom, "fanning the flames(煽风点火)," which literally means fanning the wind and lighting a fire, and metaphorically refers to inciting others to do evil.

Theres also a question where if the sun sets and causing kid killing shockwave natural? Since the country must exist before that event as people will not settle at a place which their kid are risk every sunset. Seeing what the celestials does in this n every chapter, its likely that it is the celestial creating disaster and show up as saviour so people worship them, when the people stops worshipping, disaster strikes until its corrected. And the yellow rat guai also stated that he wanted to create a place where his kind can live like normal and not persecuted thus the "rat revering edict". From lingi words, he believed guai should be guai since they are born lower, disrupting the social class and disaster will follow, while its ironic as disaster is caused by him(the upper/governing class, celestials) to enforce this ideology. The fun part of rhis chapter is u feel like a hero of justice defeating monster here n there , then u read the lore n u realise u r the Empire's hero killing rebel alliance.

Thank you for doing this bandit I played and beat this game and I really didn't have a clue what was going on. The mini movies after you beat the chapters help a little bit but if you don't know the story of Wukong (which I didn't know a whole lot) your kind just lost and confused! Still great game and my 2nds favorite game behind rebirth

watching these videos encouraged me to read journey to the west. it’s a little difficult due to some things get lost in translation as some of the most beautiful sayings in chinese turns into pure gobbledygook when translated to english, but my heart and desire to know more pushes me to persevere… 💀
