All of the insurance commercials are so intricate and well done. Crazy the amount of time and effort that must have went into them. Something you just don't see anymore in commercials.

I agree that these are great commercials. I got to work on Roy Andersson's last film and I also worked on a lot of commercials over the past few years while I lived in Norway. In one of them I was asked to drive a van with a sofa strapped to the roof through a low bridge so that the sofa would hit the bridge and fly off. Definitely way out of my job description. But the ad was not so far off from some of the simpler insurance ads Roy made, but his were definitely more charming and interesting.

What I find hilarious in these commercials is that, every situation reflects one thing "Life is sh*t". In France we have energetic, shiny, jumpy commercials with characters who seems to have an extraordinary luxuriant life. Here it's just, reality. Harsh, cold, ruthless reality. And the protagonists are just here to suffer the cold, abrupt slap of Life. It's deadpan humor, you laugh because of their demise (And because whatever might happens, they just keep a total pokerface. Like "meh, not impressed", wait what ? XD), every plan and staging empathize the defeat of the characters. It's like laughing when of a clown being pied, the grotesqueness of the situation is hilarious.

That's the deal when you live in Sweden: an ice cold country where the state decides over every aspect of your life, the taxes are high as Mount Everest and 30% of the population kill themselves before the age of 47.

Great, great, GREAT stuff!! This form of marketing is unique in itself; gone are all the smiling, young & successful people who, regardless of the product, become even happier, younger and more successful by consuming the advertisement's theme. No, this is much more than simple commercials! This is cinematic art at the highest level! Roy Andersson himself participates in the advertisement for "Felix tomatketchup", starting at 31:35.
