Great to see you taking on the challenge, @Nilaus! I had thought about inviting you or suggesting a similar hardcore run. I'm running a similar setup with 3000% metadata, diving in with no prep or tests right from the game's release. It's been a struggle, figuring out threat mechanics and scaling while defending against 4 planetary bases. I even ran out of copper before my first flight! The learning curve is intense, but it's an exciting journey. This series has taken my channel from 3 subscribers to over 100. Views have skyrocketed from a few hundred to over 10K-it's insane! It seems people enjoy watching the struggle. How's your experience with such a challenging run?

I tried max difficultu too, it was too diffucult. I think I gave up after wave 4 or 5. I then started it again on max dark fog difficulty, except I selected infinite resources and the lowest dark fog reaction to power usage. It gives enough time to set up defence, just make sure to NOT attack or touch any dark fog before you are ready, because they level up really fast when it starts. The infinite resources can probably be reduced to maybe 1.5X.

Its kinda crazy they start at level 10 right away. That means you get a lot of good drops from them. Just so you know the dark energy crystals can be put in a thermal plant and last for like 2 minutes by default each. You can keep dozens of thermals going with them alone easily since they drop so often.

@@TheStevedie I had a bunch of excess i needed to get rid of that combustible units and pretty much anything that icarus can burn thermals can so I just threw one in there out of curiosity. The timer bar barely moved. I haven't tested it yet but I wonder if you can proliferate them to make them even better. On my current game I am proliferating antimatter fuel rods and they are making my artificial stars output 144mw each which is kinda crazy.

I think they are only 3.6MJ which is only a little better than coal. The thermals will only burn as fast as what is needed for the power you're drawing. So if they last 2 minutes, then you're not drawing much power at all :) But yes they come in handy, but more for the replicator as the give a crafting speed bonus.

Already did it in another episode. His review was basically that resource wise, it was a modest return, it made a terrible racket, and it wasn't great for his FPS. He decided he probably wouldn't do it in a real playthrough for those reasons.

@marr750 I saw that episode, but he wasn't constantly being harassed by max level DF raids like this play through. I don't play DSP so I don't know the ins and outs of the mechanics, but it seems the constant raiding will yield at least some stuff worth harvesting into an "assembler."

I did a reset as well, my first play through was just the default dark fog settings and after 180 hours the highest level was only 10. I did a reset with maxing there initial level and the xp growth factor so I can unlock the dark fog technology like the new assembler and other buildings. Good luck with the max difficulty run this will be fun to watch.

I would suggest manually cooking some stone into silicon early to at least get a single BAB placed down. You could also speed up research by doing it manually early on. You can cook blues in your pocket when you have downtime. Specially with the dark energy crystals increasing pocket speed by 50%.

I really enjoy the tension of this, and I think you do, too. Really fun. One thing I noticed is that you joyfully positioned your copper miner over 8 veins given enough copper ore to feed 4 smelters, and 4 copper ingots is what it takes to make a case of ammo, and I thought "brilliant!". But then you put down 3 smelters and only hooked up 2 sorters to the assembler. I'm like "zuh? Maybe later?" However, given what I saw in this episode, you appear to be making enough ammunition, so maybe these considerations don't matter. At least not yet.

Ah, the early game. My solution to the building Threat at the start was to just handcraft everything for like half an hour. Worked like a charm. After that, it was still a lot of handcraft hell for hours for me. Luckily the dark fog drops helped, especially their fuel that boosts your handcraft rate. What was a bit hard was the attack numbers increasing so much until they stop at 180 units each. Being able to survive that and putting up a polar defense bunker was the tipping point for me. After that I could just farm them to complete the game without leaving the planet :D.

I bounced off of this game after getting really, really into it right after dark fog came out. Still the most fun I've had performing the most tedious resource gathering and base management. It's so much fun, you don't realize you've been doing busywork for 12 hours and you haven't eaten. Do you know if there's any plans for a sequel or more DLC?

There's a super cheesy way to do this: just use icarus and icarus only. if you do this, you produce basically zero threat. as needed, you can create a smelter or two to make it a bit faster at the cost of some threat as you make anything you might need. then you prepare a basic setup and then hook up wind turbines once you're ready to start farming dark fog. got all the way out of blue science this way, took something like 10 hours tho (could be done faster, im not an effiency freak, more of a 'lulcow' broken shit type freak :D) you can basically create a ring around the 3 bases and just provoke attacks (farm) ad infinum this way, it just takes a super long time.

​@@xavierburval4128 yeah, but it's also chill af xD (and im gonna be trying to optimize the speed vs. threat generation issue in my next playthroughs) my current idea is to basically divide all logistics into dividable bits and you hook up only 1 at a time, depending on what you need, using icarus to craft the rest and as far as the combat strat goes, the final goal is to have 2 rings of gauss turrets just north/south of equator, solar panels around the equator and then push the combat line closer and closer

I haven't touched this game in about 2 years, I've been playing a lot of satisfactory and fancied something with a bit substance and challenge, I started a save last night and wasn't sure of the difficulty, so just increase their size a tad and then proceeded to walk through their starter base in the first hour :( ha. so I'm going to stagger my building to allow them to build up strength and then attack the relay asap.
