I think that the “visions” Bart was seeing, if it’s how the player experiences, is the emperor trying to communicate with him, tryin to do what they did with us communicate, get our attention, find a way. Bart just didn’t recognize it because he put it off as the sickness getting to him. I don’t know if someone already mentioned this or if there is something there that shows it false, but I just kinda think that’s what was happening.

It’s heartbreaking listening to these voice logs, especially Bart’s log. He went from fascinated by the these life forms and planet to desperation and at the end the acceptance of his last days on a Floater island...”until then...there is the view.” It’s sad but I think he was okie with dying here in the end along with Paul & Maida. Great job for these voice logs.

Totally, Paul really cares about his son...but I think just because Bart wasn't near the habitat when it was destroyed Paul held a lingering hope that Bart was able to escape. Also, the light at the end...I really think that Paul has run into the Warper, he saw the light..they warped..and they got him because how far along the infection has spread toward the end.

I JUST FUCKING REALIZED SOMETHING. All three of the people in the logs are different types of players. The father is the basic survival player, Maida is the agressive type of player and Bart is the player trying tp figure out the story.

It's a ghost leviathan, reapers are at the surface/part where light reaches. Maida got killed by a leviathan and paul was killed by a crabsquid

Perhaps a Crabsquid, there are plenty down where the habitat is and in the trailer one of the survivors are attacked by one, and they are extremely aggressive. Edit: wait, the entry for Sea Dragons says they might go into shallower water to hunt for any food due to the lack of prey in their natural habitat to hunt large beasts (Juvenile Ghost Leviathans, Reapers (see the skeleton), possibly Crabsquids hence how Marguerit may have found a living tentacled leviathan, etc.).

Hmm the roars are very similar to a Reaper's, but perhaps it was roaring because a Sea Dragon caught whiff of its injuries and attacked it. This could explain the 'alien kraken' and tentacles that Paul reportedly saw.

It was a Reaper. It followed Maida on her way to the base. The tentacles Paul was talking was the Reaper's mandibles (the arm things on its face)

I actually went and found this vid to compare the audio to the isolated Leviathan cries. Sounds to me more like a Ghost juvenile, which would match for the location, but the behavior and the physical description also sounds like it could be the Sea Dragon. Either way: Maida went toe-to-toe with one and held her own. Sounds like she did some damage before it did her in, too. God, what a woman.

Despite the recording, I still think it was a sea dragon that killed the lower Degasi base. It must've heard the half-dead reaper & smelled its blood while hunting. Maybe it was looking for a way to the dunes, as another dragon had staked claim on the surface access by the Aurora's nose, that's why it didn't stick around.....or maybe they never found the dragons, & Paul just happened to describe a dragon when he meant reaper. I just wish we were sure, like the line coulda been "an alien eel, as long as a cyclops" & "just as its claws (or mandibles) came within reach"......IDK, I'm just nitpicking on YT at 2:30-ish a.m.

No, not nitpicking. Good criticism. It's always been a weird wishy-washy area that never needed to be that vague. Or maybe just a mistake. We hear high pitched reaper roars in the recording, but Paul clearly describes a Sea Dragon and says "it came out of no where", which confirms that there was a second leviathan involved. He says "alien kraken", "bigger than a Cyclops", and "tentacles" which all match a Sea Dragon and not a Reaper. But on the other hand, he says "The monster turned and bore down on me. Just as its tentacles came within reach...", but Sea Dragons' tentacles are in the rear. But granted, there's low visibility and it's gigantic and he's under stress so sure, he mistook that it was coming at him. Ignoring Below Zero's poopy story, what matches the most with all of the information given is that Maida brought an injured Reaper down from the Dunes, and it's blood attracted a Sea Dragon (albeit from quite a distance away), the Reaper roar in the recording is it reacting to the incoming Sea Dragon. The Sea Dragon destroys the Grand Reef base, and Maida dies attacking the Sea Dragon. The light that Paul mentions he thought he saw deep below him was either a Mesmer, since they're close by in the Lost River, or a telepathic communication from the Sea Emperor. He died soon after. When the Grand Reef base was destroyed, Bart fled in the other direction, directly upward, back toward the island base. We see in the trailer that he made a base afterward in the spot where the Aurora later crashes. He soon dies of the Kharaa. THE END... until you arrive. If you want to say instead that it was a second Reaper coming _down_ from the Dunes, then you'd have to stretch it a lot to say that Paul describes the second creature that "came out of no where" as if it's a new thing he'd never seen before, and that he mistook Reapers' mandibles for tentacles, and that he either misjudged the size of the second Reaper, or that the Reaper that followed Maida just happened to be substantially larger than the ones you encounter in the game. Below Zero practically just ret-cons the whole thing to be that it was all just the _one_ Reaper that Maida originally captured. It destroys the habitat, and she successfully kills it and rides it's floating corpse across half the absurdly tiny planet to the Arctic (even though the creature corpses sink when you kill them, and the void is infested with Ghost Leviathans).

Trying to resume, imho, the Degasi crew, it would be like this: - Paul: the indirect responsable of the crash, trying to scoop a dangerous, unknown planet for resourses. On 4546B he was 'right' in terms of survival, they would've lasted more if the crew followed Paul wish of staying at sea level, but at the end they would've died due to Khaarar, making his call useless in the end. - Bart: he was the brain behind the crew, most of his findings are about advanced crafting and story related events, such as discovering they are infected, studying the tablets and such. Sadly, even if he was able to escape from the Deep Grand Reef base, he succumbed at the infection on the Island. I think he could've done a bit more after he escaped than just recording a message in his PDA. - Maida: the guts of the crew and the one doing the heavy work. Like it or not, she was the cause of the deaths of the Degasi crew in the Deep Grand Reef. Her saying of hunting seamonsters, bringing a Reaper half dead to the base and making another one follow her, wanting to go deeper without any solid lead but 'there's weird readings' in the scanner. She was doing what The Player is supposed to do, exploring, taking risk, in order to learn more about why they crash landed, but she didnt had enough clues to keep going deeper... if at least she had found the Quarentine Enforcement Plataform (aka the gun base) and had access to the alien data about other bases... well that shoud have set the mood for her to keep her journey of going deeper and deeper. But appart from her big role exploring and gathering resourses, all her calls were bad: building bases at deep biomes with high predatory population, instead of other many more safer biomes with good resourses. The DGR base was for the sake of the story, but in reality, it is very unlikely to build a base there, with all those Crabsquids, two Ghost Leviathans above the base... well, it was just not possible. Still, the Degasi story is the most interesting one regarding of PDA's found. Along with what happened to most Aurora survivors, specially the Rendevouz voicelog from 2nd Officer Keen.

I really like the Degasi crew except the "chief" I however don't like how he's the only one who got a proper sendoff. I would really have liked more detail in Bart's final log, he doesn't talk about the attack on the habitat or anything about maida or his father much except to say he'll miss them. For such an intelligent eloquent adolescent you'd think he would detail things more. I'm also annoyed that Maida got one log herself and we didn't really get an ending for her. I genuinely believe that it's just as likely she survived as that she didn't.

They are Reaper sounds. But it definitely wasn't a baby, if anything it was an abnormally large Reaper. In Paul's final log he says "bigger than a Cyclops" your average Reaper is actually a little shorter than a Cyclops.

The leviathan that attacked the cyclops was a Dragon. It was bigger than the cyclops, and it had tentacles. There is only one Emperor so a Dragon is the only thing that fits the bill.

Mystic Wolf During the fight with the reaper in the last degasi log she was dragged out into the dead zone. when the battle with the reaper was over she used the corpse to stay afloat. she was using her repair tool to make a fire to filter water and cook some parts of the reaper. after five weeks she reached Sector Zero she swam to an ice platform and chuckled. Somehow she got cured, my theory is that she found a Sea Emperor Leviathan in Sector Zero and she got cured. she built a base and put the skull of the reaper that she killed in it. she built a prawn and weaponized it to defend herself. during Subnautica: Below Zero you can have an encounter with her during the story. (My Note: Hope This Is Helpful Bye! )

Very late reply, I know. But i'm pretty sure the leviathan mentioned was a Reaper Leviathan from the roar, and "Tentacles" the latter of which could refer to a reapers mandibles. As for the fathers light he saw? Either a mesmer or a Crabsquid, but if you look at the Cinematic trailer, a crabsquid kills someone. So probably crabsquid since thats meant to (I am pretty sure) be the Degasi Crew.

for those in a predicament for if the leviathan sound was either a reaper or a ghost, it was neither. its a crabsquid. the habitat where that voice log is was in the grand reef underground caves where the crabsquids are. Paul mentioned "kraken" and "bigger than a cyclops" the reaper is not as big as a cyclops, the ghost is actually a comparable size the cyclops however doesn't fit the bill for "kraken" what do you think of when you think of kraken, probably a giant squid, or that movie scene where they say: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bYTUdJKjaN6Ierc but basically, this all ties to the crabsquid. it even gaurds the degasi habitat.

If you listen to the below zero voicelogs you hear about how Marguerit killed it and survived off the meat in its corpse long enough to reach land in sector zero. She has the skull mounted on the wall in her base.

The story in the game is awesome! But I’ve played through the game, without the story, to many times. It makes me kind of sad. But that’s why your channel is the shit! I can find the story without playing it through. BTW, if you did want to keep the Subnautica train going, it might be a good idea to put a spin on the series or do a play through (w/ a spin). Like a pacifist run through or something. I don’t know. Maybe the current games will keep working for you. Merry Christmas all.
