Desaad has that leeway bro he’s Darkseid’s right hand man and most loyalist servant. By the end of the film the “I told you Steppenwolf would fail” meant they’ve had previous discussions where Desaad predicts to Darkseid of Steppenwolf failing. So how could he really get upset at him for being right which I like how it shows Darkseid’s self control. But you can totally tell Darkseid wanted Steppenwolf to succeed in his redemption from how upset he reacts after seeing the league murder his family right before his eyes.

I think they made Darkseid a bit mature here than your average arrogant narcissistic villain. He can handle criticism as long they are respectful. It's the reason why Desaad could criticize him for all his flaws and not outright Disrespect him like calling him an idiot or something. Edit: Something I just realized is the melting steel like communication technology Steppenwolf uses to speak with DeSaad and Darkseid is almost exactly the same as the communication and holographic technology we see on Krypton in Man of Steel. Kind of interesting how so far every sentient alien species uses a similar communication technology in this franchise. I'd actually like to see if the inhabitants of New Genesis, Thanagar, or Oa' use the same technology. That would be fascinating to see.

Darkseid was looking for that primitive planet with anti-life for a long time i.e turning 100,000 worlds to dust. That info tells the difficulty to find one particular planet in a trillion without a GPS which was left at that planet. Steppenwolf, who wished to return to his own planet from exile, owed 50,000 planets to Darkseid after a failed attempt to taking the throne. Earth was just another world to conquer for Steppenwolf until one of mother-boxes which was left 5000 years ago after a failed invasion from a young Darkseid, revealed him the location of anti-life equation.

Steppenwolf is DeSaad’s Grandfather. Well kinda. Steppenwolf is Darkseid’s Uncle. And DeSaad used to be a little boy on New Genesis (Basically The Opposite of Apokolips and where The Good New Gods stay) as a Good New God. But then Darkseid captured DeSaad in a war I think between Apokolips and New Genesis and once Darkseid took DeSaad in he adopted him. So DeSaad is Darkseid’s Son. So Steppenwolf is his Grandfather. It’s really cool and confusing at the same time.

It’s funny how often that question comes up in general though… Not only is Granny usually portrayed as someone both older and bulkier enough that some people even in universe mistake her for a man, She’s been routinely voiced by men outside of live action performances, mainly Ed… I forgot his last name, but basically Granny tends to be both voiced and modeled after the guy who did the cop in Frekazoid. All of her other appearances she was played by a female. So that is about 4 out of 13 times she appeared in media with an actor or actress playing her. So it is not really the majority of time though it certainly is enough to notice. Not to mention many people on here probably grew up with Superman Animated or Justice League Unlimited hence the strong association with Ed Asner's voice.
