After watching this, and the other video with ABC Companies, it is clear they are passionate about everything buses. Everyone is very knowledgeable and passionate on what they do. Clearly everyone from the top down cares. I wonder how the luggage issue can be addressed, I guess that is the million dollar question. Get that solved, and range (which is easier to solve) and this could be a great coach bus for the future. I'm sure one day it will happen.

James, this episode is a keeper! Thank you. I think this phase of EV mass transit is like the Sputnik phase was for space travel. Components will keep getting smaller, hence more luggage space. Battery chemistry and regeneration will keep getting more efficient. Maybe we will see your 20th Anniversary episode on some yet to be developed communications platform showing the 2040 model EV motor coach. Blessings.

@@MotorcoachWorld Clearly, that bus was created from a fully kitted out diesel bus. Everything was mounted in the luggage lockers or engine bay. The luggage locker walls correspond to frame nodes in the structure. An EV bus must be fully redesigned for compact EV equipment. It appears bus manufacturers don't have this capability as they have long relied on compact packages from engine/drivetrain suppliers. It is going to take a Tesla, Bosch, Continental, Magna, etc to enter the market to supply the powertrain and a body design.

Thank you, this video answering my question. This bus is most definitely a conversion. However, this is the most well tought out vehicle conversion I am aware of. You, dont, for example, have the passengers sitting up against the roof (which is how Mercedes does their SUV conversion). Being a conversion is the root issue leaning to the loss of space. A ground up EV design would easily solve the space issues.

Where are the passengers luggage stored? Not much space underneath this coach. Minuscule for passenger luggage. It is all taken up by the AC, cooling, batteries etc..etc...etc...Is there enough over head space in the coach? I don't think so. As pointed out in the last video about ev buses right now it is not practical for line hauls. I think the range is 280-300 miles. BUT in a few short years all that will be solved as technology improves with these EV coaches day by day....We shall see. Great video. Very informative! Thanks for posting.(-;

Thank you for the deep-dive on how electric technology is being implemented in these busses. While like you mentioned its not there "yet" its making leaps and bounds to get better and better each day. Its pretty amazing as a bus owner to see all of the components that make a bus work being carried out by electrical counterparts... like air system, hydraulic steering system, air conditioning and heating, etc. It'll only get better and more integrated as time goes on. Theres not a lot of "transparency" in the bus space so I appreciate yourself and ABC for making these videos. While the initial price for entry into one of these EV's is probably exponential in comparison to the fossil fuel current versions its obvious that their long term TCO is much lower maintenance wise.

Luggage space is definitely something the engineer designers would have to consider when they seem to have figured out how to make the coach buses travel further…Not too certain if Van Hool has the same duct work design down the center of the luggage bay ceiling as MCI does…But I have had coffee spill on the floor inside the interior of the coach and found drips of it inside the luggage bay…Not setting the tone to skeptical, but came to mind…I thought the KZbin presentation was very informational toward the efforts of next generation’s attempt to impact the environment and the influence EV’s are having on transportation so far…Now, you will have to do similar videos…But for MCI & Temsa…LOL…Take Care…

A 250 mile range is plenty to travel from one end of the Netherlands to the other. Ideal for shuttling tourists between the various tourist traps here. They don't carry their suitcases, only backpacks, to the different things to visit. I haven't seen electric buses at my local tourist trap yet, but the public transport is going fully electric later this year.

Informative video. RTD of Denver has had electric busses in several of their in-town routes since 2016. Nice not to have all that deisel exhaust downtown! I could see RTD using the busses in this video for thier work comunters from the bedroom communities outside the greater Dnever area (Ft. Collins, Loveland, Longmont, etc.). I agree with you, the lack of luggage space does not really lend itself wewll to tour busses. But intercity commuting might be the nich (at this point in time) for ABC's busses. Thanks for the video!

The luggage space is a major issue. I can see it being used as a commuter bus or a local tour bus but not for any OTR trips. If the company I used to work for in Maryland took a day charter to NYC it wouldn't work. It's roughly 240 miles each way and 4 hours to get there depending on traffic. It's hard enough to find parking it's going to be worse trying to find a charging station. An average day trip to NYC the groups stays there for 6 hours. If the electric coach has a max range of 250 did they consider the load of the heat and AC, electronics as well as the power inverters for the AC outlets? The outside temps. It seems fine for a commuter bus where it can sit and charge all night but that also means the bus company has to buy charging stations for all the buses. I am sure that is something you already asked. The only time I drove an all electric vehicle was the Ford Mustang Mach E. That thing took off so fast I was at 70 MPH before I knew what was happening. How was the acceleration? How many motors and were there any in the front? Take care and be safe.

I know AC would be DOG SLOW but it's always nice to have backups for those bad days! hopefully they can get the DC charging up to 250 or 350 KW, might be able to get that 3 hour charge down to 2 or 1 hours!!

I was a bit surprised too to see this doesn’t support level 1 or level 2 charging. I guess if it did there would be even more luggage space taken up by equipment. Even at level 2 though, 7kwh charging up a 600 kWh battery would be dog slow like you said.

Now tell me where the luggage goes? You need to pull a trailer. All European buses have not much room for luggage to begin with. Now with that e-system there is no more luggage space. Just great!

Too little luggage space, and very little consolidation of components. It would be far cheaper to buy a Telsa Semi for $200K and deploy $180K of it (all except the shell of the cab) into a bus - might be cheaper than a diesel bus, and all, or nearly all of the luggage space will be retained.

Knowing that lithium batteries is a fire hazard , you do know that once these batteries go through a thermo melt down once you see the tell tail white smoke can you get everyone off of the bus in 10 seconds, also remember that the white smoke is highly toxic. With those batteries being under the bus inside the luggage compartment I would not be wanting to be on that bus.

@Elizabeth Cherry There are different lithium ion battery chemistries already. Also battery shutdown circuitry in each block to prevent runaway reactions. Very strict temperature control parameters is also crucial to fire prevention. I think I would order a dry chemical fire suppression system just in case.
