every state is its own country, just united under one flag and government. During the revolution the colonies had to unite in something that can be akin to be an alliance that ca stand a chance against the British army, so they adopted a flag to symbolise their devotion to the cause, that same flag changed and became the one we know today, then after the revolution they had to make a centralized law system that all colonies must follow, which is there to stop people from murdering some dude in a state then going to another to escape imprisonment includingother such laws which made it harder to escape justice in the area the colonies control which then became a central government above the regular state government which is known as the federal government and thats why there two law systems in place with similar but different punishments depending on the crime and this is also a reason that states can break away from the federal government by voting, although the system made that almost impossible to do without a civil war. Hopefully, that made sense enough to be coherent

Brilliant work here, very thought provoking ^^ Theres actually my own ending I've come up with for a personal lore/world building project, so for sake of presentation I'll call it the GlowStone Ending. Basically; after many world changing events from the year 2100 and onward, the world order is reshaped and the US gets the blunt of it. By the year 2300 the US is reduced to literally just its eastern seaboard and a small chunk of the Midwest. A decent sized portion in between the aforementioned area and the West Coast becomes a new sovereign nation comprising of Native American tribes exclusively. The West Coast becomes GlowStone, a nation that forms by a revolution led by a transhumanist coalition looking to break away from the US inform a new nation where cybernetics are more equally distributed and further development and production of them is embraced warmly. Major changes/"patch notes," if you will: -Early 2100s, Yellowstone erupts, causing a global crisis of air quality due to ash spewing into the air at a rate of which makes Mount Saint Helens look like a small campfire by comparison. -Initially in response cybernetics are first developed for the respiratory system in general in hopes of providing better quality of life in the very poor air conditions in the US. -Slowly but surely cybernetics in general become more common place and utilitarian. However, the US proceeds to become more and more corrupt to the point where they're basically a re-skin of what the British empire was. A lot of the world, even decently strong allies with the US, start to kind of have a silent love-hate relationship with them due to their tomfoolery. -Due to this, social inequities and a fair amount of the cybernetics industry becoming gentrified the hell out of the higher class, the GlowStone Movement forms, named after the kind of valuable gemstones that were discovered once Yellowstone became safe to visit again, with it turning into the world's most valuable mining complex. Said gemstones have unique and powerful qualities to them, and can be attributed to most of the technological developments at this time. -The revolution starts off cold but goes hot due to a freak accident where two rogue agents in a nuclear silo launched two ICBMs at Chicago, where a massive GlowStone demonstration was taking place. As a result Chicago is completely erased and the entire Lake Michigan area is contaminated, creating the Dead Zone. Though the US was not directly responsible, nor ordered the attack, the entire world proceeded to turn on America in the immediate fallout of this disaster. -As a result, Russia takes back Alaska, Hawaii gains their own sovereignty once again, Mexico takes a chunk of present a New Mexico and Texas, Cuba takes Florida and the West Coast of the US (as well as a portion of British Columbia and the entirety of Baja California) become GlowStone. -GlowStone, now the world's superpower having freshly deposed the US, proceeds to rapidly develop and advance in sophistication of technology and quality of life. Having loads of good foreign relations as well, they begin giving back to those that helped them in the revolution but also countries in need of aid with their valuable resources.

China isn't nearly powerful enough to be considered a Cold War. One of the big things about the Cold War was how many new technologies regarding space and military we could achieve. Now people work together a bit more about space. And with military it is just known that the US is stronger, and MAD is a bit more set in stone so theres not as much mystery about "the other side" with it being powerful. The US also has more allies, now, and last time a big scary thing was a land invasion from the USSR into Europe since the red army was kinda scary, but now it would pretty much have to be by sea and the US has a stronger navy (combined with like 7 other countries because everyone hates China)
