watching this was the first time I realized that the melody of "are you feeling nervous, are you having fun," etc. is nearly the same as the "am I going crazy would I even know" part of Goodbye. I know Goodbye intentionally has a lot of callbacks to the earlier songs but I hadn't noticed that one lol
@__led3 жыл бұрын
Yes ! I’ve watched the special several times and noticed that Bo reused the melodies to his songs in different ways as background and transitional music in many scenes… like for example the music for the ‘live stream video game’ he does is actually the melody for Look Who’s Inside Again. That blew me away when I first realized it. So talented and creative !
@katiemcleod11452 жыл бұрын
This actually makes even more sense now he's released the earlier version of "All Eyes On Me" which had the lyrics "Am I going crazy? maybe, maybe not" instead of "Are you feeling nervous, are you having fun"
@AmandaBee2 жыл бұрын
@@katiemcleod1145 ohh yeah totally! so when goodbye was written it was probably originally referencing that line
@katiemcleod11452 жыл бұрын
@@AmandaBee I think so yeah! It definitely makes a lot of sense for 'Goodbye' to reference the earlier version, because he showed us (via the short hair/beard flashback shot) that he started writing Goodbye early into the project. That and the final version of 'Goodbye' doesn't have a sample of the 'All Eyes On Me' lyrics, but it references all of the other big songs from the special; until reading your comment I thought he hadn't referenced it on purpose to give more emotional weighting to 'All Eyes On Me' - in my mind omitting the reference separates AEOM from the other songs as a raw emotional confession written in the heat of the moment, rather than a pre-planned song for a comedy special. It makes so much sense that he would have referenced it all along with the other songs but because the words changed throughout the creative process it was missed in the final version. Either way, simply genius writing both lyrically and musically
@AlphaSeagull2 жыл бұрын
@@katiemcleod1145 yeah looks like there's a lot of things that were referenced in the song we were unaware of. For example, there's a line in Goodbye saying "you can pick the street I'll meet you on the other side" which is likely referencing the Chicken song

Are you having fun? It's almost over It's just begun Don't overthink this Look in my eye Don't be scared, don't be shy Come on in, the water's fine We're goin' to go where everybody knows Everybody knows, everybody, oh We're goin' to go where everybody knows Everybody knows Get your fuckin' hands up Get on out of your seat All eyes on me, all eyes on me Ay, come on, get your fuckin' hands up Get on out of your seat All eyes on me, all eyes on me, yeah Heads down, pray for me Heads down now, pray for me Get your fuckin' hands up Get on out of your seat All eyes on me, all eyes on me You wanna hear a funny story? So, uh, five years ago, I quit performing live comedy Because I was beginning to have, uh, severe panic attacks while on stage Which is not a great place to have them So I, I quit, and I didn't perform for five years and I spent that time Trying to improve myself mentally And you know what? I did I got better I got so much better, in fact That in January of 2020 I thought, "You know what? I should start performing again" "I've been hiding from the world and I need to re-enter" And then, the funniest thing happened Are you feeling nervous? Are you having fun? It's almost over It's just begun Don't overthink this Look in my eye Don't be scared, don't be shy Come on in, the water's fine You say the ocean's rising like I give a shit You say the whole world's ending, honey, it already did You're not gonna slow it, Heaven knows you tried Got it?
