You are right, what we are watching is not rocket science but structural engineering; and that is what is amazing about SpaceX. They are not just inventing / designing new structures and new technologies but they are doing it out in the open for anyone interested to watch. I have been looking at videos by Mary for years since that place was a sand bar and we still have lot to be amazed at. Anyways, love your commentary. This has added to the old daily updates that had no wisecracks! 😅

The yellow straps are there to stop the arms of the chop sticks from swinging around as they lift the whole assembly up to the tower. There will be a strap from each arm back to the carriage, as well as a strap between the 2 arms, - seen here as the shorter, more tensioned strap in the latter part of the video. Together these 3 straps will hold the 3 sections (the 2 arms and the carriage), in a secure formation during the lift. Once it's on the tower then they'll hook up the hydraulics to be able to control the swing of the arms.

@@SBHLL maybe keeping the weight low for the lift?
@wesleybeaver
@wesleybeaver 8 күн бұрын
@@cricri7066 Weight is one aspect. The other is the potential failure of hydraulics trying to do what they were never designed to do. The actuators were designed to move the leveled and balanced chopsticks, nothing more. Every degree of tilt that occurs would overpressure the seals in the actuators, the hoses and the control valves. It's just safter to use reinforced strapping to keep things in place.

@@MrMuzza008 In the description is says "Want just the Ambient starbase audio - choose Klingon as your language." I know it is confusing, but KZbin has a fixed list of languages and NSF's only choice was to use Klingon because they can't add "Ambient" to the language menu options. Perhaps at some point they may get Worf to do a voice over.

So... I picked up a 60x90 Core of the Galaxy metal print, and... it is gorgeous. I didn't realize how much the detail would *pop* with the metal prints. Looks like the star filled sky has real texture, and the glow from the lighthouse, and the effect on the water from the longer exposure all add up to be spectacular. I wasn't sure if I'd regret getting something *without* a rocket in frame for my first, but that worry went away quick.

Omg I want one so bad!!! It's on my "must get" list but the one I wanted did have the rocket in frame/during launch! A little more than I would normally spend on myself but worth it! Plus I'm pretty sure the metal is based on the new hardened metal they're using...? Can't wait to get mine!!!

probably some kind of silicone or possibly a dry lubricant like graphite.. it needs to keep the salty air out of the bare metal parts, but it's not a high heat location, just high pressure, as in the weight of the assembly pushing on the skate wheels, with a 350 ton booster hanging off it will generate a lot of pressure on the contact points.
