Haven't been excited about a camera in awhile. This form factor is perfect for run-and-gun/street photography. Also great for trips so I don't have to take my professional rig/battery-grip with me; could never justify the price point of the x100vi especially with the resale prices if you can even find one. Might have to pre-order this one, the price-point and features are pretty spot-on for what you get

As somebody interested only in the photography part and not video, why would I buy this instead of Fujifilm X-T30 II? That one is still officially sold by Fuji new with warranty for about the same money, has an EVF, tiltable screen with higher resolution and pop-up flash. The only interesting things on X-M5 are the film simulation dial, the few additional film simulations (reala ace, nostalgic neg) and the slighrly smaller size and weight.

Not much really. If you really need a smaller camera get this, but Xt-30 is still probably the way to go for photography. Lack of shutter speed dial Exp compensation sucks

exposure compensation dial is your best friend when it comes to photography. I own the xt30ii paired with the fujinon 27mm pancake when i feel carrying a light setup, and a fujinon 33mm 1.4 for a more serious photo session. though i'm considering this xm5 for my wife (a.k.a. for myself lol) i just wish it had an exposure dial and an evf but pricepoint will bump up after the fact.

It seems like a lot of people have forgotten how to shoot cameras without IBIS nowadays. I’m glad they didn't add it after getting a painful $600 repair bill from a broken IBIS of my XT4.

Yeah. I've been thinking about this or X-S20. I'm gonna use it just for my cover channel. Basically will just record me playing instruments, that's all. My only requirement is that it doesn't overheat. Retakes are brutal when trying to play perfectly. A decent photo mode is also welcome when I go on trips but it's not my main requirement. Might as well save money, right?

Hello, I am a hobby photographer and own one camera, which is ricoh gr iiix. I am thinking of getting a Fuji camera because of the film simulations and because I want to get into photography more seriously. The X-M5 is one of the options, but I am not sure since it seems like it is very similar to the Ricoh gr-iiix in terms of size and other specs. I am not sure if I should get the X-M5, T30ii, or perhaps wait for X-E5 (rumored to be out next year). I appreciate any insight or suggestions! Thank you. (Also, I am also on a budget, which makes X-M5 very favorable)

If you still have it with you, could you check if the manual focus assistance has a bug? I have noticed that unlike my X-T5 and X-H2s, the X-Me does not zoom back out when you half-press the shutter button. On both other two cameras (I think even the GFX50II) focus assistance zooms in once you manually focus and then zooms back to the normal view when you half press. I tried replicating the menu settings from the X-H2s to the X-M5 but it will not zoom back out of the focus assistance.

I'm considering getting a camera again and looking at either the X-S20 or the X-M5. I used to have the X-T20 but sadly it got stolen. I used the X-T20 with my DJI Ronin SC which I still have and planning on keep using it with one of the camera's. I want to use it with an external mic (Sennheizer Stereo Shotgun) and some kind of SmallHD screen and I'm planning to shoot mainly Snowboarding and Automotive clips and I want to take a step into the more cinematic (travel) videos. Which camera would you consider best for this setup and situation?

Give it IBIS and this is probably one of the most EDC camera for beginners. Infact i'd say for all levels of photo/video people who want a small fun to carry EDC camera. But without the IBIS I don't feel comfortable with it.

You cant fit a 5 axis IBIS system into a camera that small. Its physics. Besides, give it IBIS and it's $1,200 and everyone would cry it's too expensive.

@@michaelbell75 the cost surely would go up. About the size, technology is too modern for me to believe that an ibis system can't be cramped into that tiny body. I mean such ibis systems are literally existing in smartphones too so that just seems like a business decision to cut costs. Personally I think ibis is very important especially for beginners who might not have the most stable hands to shoot photos and videos.

Yes, the Fujifilm X-M5 does not have in-body image stabilization. Also, it is limited to UHS-I SD cards for storage. Other than that, it's a great camera. If it had 7 stops of IBIS i would buy one.

They have an extremely confusing naming and range, X100, XM, XE, XA, XT, XH, XS. There is no sence of creating several camera using same sensors. They are just trying to be in the market with new name and body but they are not addressing the worst focusing system on the market. Fuji it's high time invest on better autofocus rather than launching confusing models at such expensive price. Fuji does not deserve such high price only for film sims as the af is worst on the market.

This has more video features than both of those cameras and is meant as a 2nd camera for video-centric users. It's basically an X-S20 for 60% less money and the IBIS and the battery are the only major downsides. A 2nd camera doesn't need an EVF or a razor sharp back display.
