I kept seeing that people saw Suko as nothing but a reason to sell more toys(which this whole movie is about?) but I never got that. We were gonna get a mini Kong eventually and I just love how he's not like normal characters we see in other franchises. He's an a hole and a huge one at that which makes it refreshing to watch him on the big screen.

Even the first cartoon in the 80s still went ahead and had good stories to tell and good lessons to teach kids despite the cartoon was simultaneously a big commercial for the toys. For every godzilla film, toys come along with it. By your logic, your favorite G films were like this "toys first, movie 2nd" which is probably the case as nearly every G flick had toys attached to it. As long as the quality is good, does it make a difference if the movie is made to sell toys?. If no movie is safe from criticism then no more is safe from being a toy commercial either. Please don't say all this but be the same fellow to buy goji figures...

A year ago, Shimo was presented as the new, Ghidorah-like world threat. Everyone thought Shimo was being kept under the pyramids, there was this conspiracy that Monarch knew about her but kept her secret, and once she got out it was over for everyone. People thought she was going to be released a lot earlier in the movie, cause a lot more damage while traveling the globe, and was going to defeat Godzilla and Kong in a 1v2, which prompts them to get their upgrades. Shimo was hyped up to be an ultra world-ending threat pretty early on, plus her design was thought to be more menacing; there's plenty of early fan art of what people thought she was going to look like. So it's the early theories that hyped her up. People also thought Skar King was going to be responsible for unleashing the skullcrawlers that killed Kong's parents too. I loved the movie but I think it could've been so much more mythical, grand, and deep.

My ranking (before seeing the video) 1. Kong - as usual, he’s a standout. The non-vocal storytelling that came with him was wonderful, and his character evolution in this film was really good. 2. Skar King - he is the first villain that I actually hate. The things he did to these apes are horrible. He’s not like Ghidorah, where he’s a cool villain, he’s just a villain. Straight up. And that’s a good thing. 3. Godzilla - his evolution grew on me. I used to think it was an unnecessary cashgrab, but he actually looks good. I’m also not mad at his screen time, because everytime he’s on screen is awesome anyway. 4. Shimo - she was good. Her design is good, her abilities were actually fun considering she’s one of the few ice monsters in the franchise, and her dynamic with Skar King is quite sad. 5. Mothra - her return was nice. Her theme song for this film is overhated honestly, her new chitter’s are nice, they sound very bird-like. Overall, she was a good addition. 6. Suko - he started out being a little brat, but he was actually very good. His design is a little too cutesy, but his personality was fun and I like him. 7. The Other Great Apes - don’t have much to say here, they are very sad, and also act as good motivators for Kong. 8. Tiamat - her redesign was AWESOME. I love her new pink accents, her new frills, AND MOST OF ALL, it’s a comic monster being adapted into live action! I just wish they hadn’t have murdered her. 9. Doug - he’s Doug. And they handle the “cameo” aspect of it amazingly. 10. Drownviper - it’s a giant, striped monstrous snake! I would have put it higher but unfortunately everything else is somewhat better than it. But I do like it. 11. Wart Dog - they’re giant, zombified wolves. And I will defend these things designs TO MY DEATH. 12. Warbat - doesn’t have much to do in the film, but it’d be impossible to put them lower than this. They’re too cool. 13. Parrot Frog - I HATE that I have to put it here, because I find it hilariously cool, but I love it. It’s a frog that mimics things! 14. Scylla - she’s okay. I’m iffy on her redesign, but she’s okay. 15. Yoshuma - they were good, the multicolored aspect was good, their screen time made me put them here, but I liked them. 16. Vertacine - I can’t shake the feeling that these things were supposed to be Psychovultures, because of the bird / electrical thing. But they were neat for what they were. They made for a hilarious scene though. 17. Tree Mimic - exists primarily for an expendable kill. We didn’t even get a good look at it. I couldn’t put it higher if I tried. 18. Leafwing - brief appearance. They’re nice, but compared to everything else they have to be here.

Great ranking list! I liked Skar King alot too and wished we got to see him more along with Shimo. I love Godzilla but definitely would give Kong the #1 too, his character and his hero's journey was fantastic. Godzilla's brutality reminds me of the heisei/final wars days which is entertaining but I do hope they bring back his nobility in future installments as well

8:54 she's a victim that's the point. Plus she can have a gentle side to her but can be a threat if she pissed off. I like that part of her. Just cause she an alpha doesn't mean she can't have a sweet side to her. 10:35 no it was Mothra that calmed Godzilla down. Yes he noticed jia cause she's iwi but it was Mothra he was talking to. Plus replacing foshra with Mothra wouldn't changed much cause at the end of the day it'll just be doing everything Mothra would've done. Plus it'll just be a Mothra rip off anyway. That's why test audience didn't like it. Heck Adam Wingard wanted Mothra in the movie anyway. 12:37 I mean it makes sense. He doesn't know what's going on down in the hollow earth he thinks Kong is working with skar king and is breaking the deal by coming up to the surface. Now that Mothra explain to him what's going on he understands the situation. Plus him killing Scylla and Tiamat makes sense cause if they get to powerful and become a huge threat they might kill him. So kill them now especially Scylla. She got off the hook way too many times

I think the mothra was still godzillas buddy as the novelization and Adam wingard explained it. Also the movie said that mothra is godzilla ancient ally like in kotm and I also don't think jia was calming down godzilla but mothra is as it is shown in the movie.

I think Kong was always "heroic" by kaiju standards. He's a monster, yes, but even in 1933 he fought against other monsters to keep what he cares about safe, and this was very deliberate on O'Brien's behalf who aimed to make him more "human" for lack a better word, and that's been a common trait in practically every incarnation.

My theory is that the massive serpent skeleton that Kong and Suko cross is the MonsterVerse version of Jörmungandr. It makes sense given its size and appearance, plus there's a lot of God of War vibes in this movie, so adding Jörmungandr seems fitting.

I am a huge fan of Godzilla but in this movie I agree with Kong being the #1. I really liked how they portrayed his character in this movie. The part where Kong called Godzilla was a bit funny though when he was like trynna say "Oh no no not me." with his facial expression too. XD I would put Godzilla in #2 though not because I love him so much but power-wise, he really is super powerful and though he only does the same thing every single time, this time he was able to beat Tiamat and even absorbed her power. He proved that he is the king of the titans. I wish there were more Titans in this film though. And I know some people would say Kong is the king and not Godzilla but let's just say they are both kings, but of different worlds. I just hope in the next film they would be more friendly with each other. :D

They did Doug the Thug wrong with his screen time. 😄 This movie was pretty much King Kong's, because we can now call him that now, heroes journey. As for Godzilla...he was sort of the McGuffin of the movie. He radroids out, offs a few titans, and then was the weapon to counter Shimo, and that's about it. They really need to flesh him out a lot more in the next movie.

@dman1954 , I agree with you mostly, that Kong is the heart and soul, in particular of the GvK and GxK movies. Godzilla remains the main guy in his respective movies, G2014 and G:KOTM. I think the rematch between K and G should have shown that Kong has now become somewhat equal with Godzilla in terms of raw power, but in a subtle way they did. Kong's motivation towards Godzilla this time was driven to gaining his help against Skar/Shimo. Had Kong given in to his usual berserker rage, Kong would have kept utilized the B.E.A.S.T glove to its full effect on Godzilla and continued pummeling on Godzilla beyond unconscientiousness.

Completely agree with you DMan. Shimo is the biggest let down of the movie for me and it’s partially because of how much they try to overhype her. She never feel like a threat except the first time she appeared. There is never a moment she feels like the alpha titan. SkarKing also is great but I never feel a threat from him. He pretty much lost to Kong the first time they fight and from that point on I just don’t feel it. If he lose to Kong there’s not half a chance he could stand a chance against Godzilla. Mothra is the opposite for me, she was never mentioned before the movie yet she got things to do that make me like her more. She definitely saved the day and saved the human so many times. Suko maybe my biggest surprise. I didn’t expect to even come close to like him since I didn’t like the design. But the movie did a great job making me enjoy his development and role a lot. Lastly you’re exactly right about Godzilla. I feel like Godzilla doesn’t need the power up to beat everyone in this movie. They didn’t do a good job telling us why he’s so desperate. His personality is bland and not so “King-like” now when just run angrily at anyone. I much prefer KotM’s Godzilla. For me it would be Kong number 1, Godzilla, Suko, Mothra and Tiamat. Man, Tiamat is such a waste, she’s so cool.

Your miss reading shimo heavily. If she wanted too. She could be an alpha titan. But whats unique about her and what i love is that she isnt just another big bad scary alpha monster. She has extreme power yes but any chill personality can have extreme power. Shimo just wants to live her own life. She doesnt want to be an alpha even though she could be. She may not be as intelligent as later titans but that makes sense. She displayed relunctance to harm kong the first time they met.

Bro tiamat is not better then shimo, they literally killed her off innthe most stupidest way and reduced her design too a manda knock off when she had a unqiue and cool design in the comics. There was no excuse for her design to be changed. a official statue is being made that is literally based on her original appearance, I feel like there is no excuse. I will say lore wise i actually prefer gxk mothra over kotm Mothra felt way more mystical in gvk compaired to kotm I wasnt a fan of how the mothra twins were teased in kotm but jia comunicating with mothra felt to me more what i wanted from the mothra twins (Her theme was better in kotm though, no doubt)
