i am chinese who like very much. if you do not mind, i give you more infomation about what a lots of chinese players believe. a related video explains the ending has like 10 miliion thumbs up... 1. Erlang is not a bad guy, he had fought the celestrial court to save his mom using that big axe in before (in anothe myth, or say, novel of chinese erlang god.). he somehow is the same as wukong, not trusted by the celestrial court. 2. when erlang saw the headband reappearing from wukong's head(in the beginning of the game), he immediate know wukong is cheated by the celetrial court and immediately know what wukong was trying to do, so he played along and killed wukong as they at that moment kinda shared the mutual understanding: wukong want to " mortal death for undeath for an unbound mind and will(see what erlang says: one one can.....but at last, i see this is the only way, he had no choice and neither did I.01:03). 3. Erlang's trust to the celestrial court has gone after he see the headband, but he decide to keep his thinking to his own due to his unwillingness to fight the the court directly like he once did. so he decide to keep wukong's memory and will in his third eye in secret and then he hide himself in the wall painting (where we fight the erlang in the good ending). [you can read about it, in the decription of erlang and the child budda in the game memo.: the child budda helps erlang to hide in the painting so the court will not find him. ] 4. The bull's son and the black bear, they all wear different headbands given by the west budda world and the court. the court had said to them that their band were removed just like they said the band was removed from wukong. so, those monsters, they kinda know the cheating and know what to do to help wukong. think about this, when they know it is risky to keep wukong's body parts, why they still keep it? they were great monsters nothing lesser than wukong at all. because they do not trust the celestrial court too, they wanna see whether wukong can be successful in taking off the headband. (that is why the bull says: i am scared all my life, scared by my son and my wife. he is implying the court who is controlling his son and his wife according to the .). the bull is playing alone and secret helping wukong, so to help his kind. (p.s. bull's naive son try to use the power of wukong body part to gain strength to fight the court, and his son was so determined to gain that body part of wukong from his father, so he injured his own father. bulk cannot give it out because wukong's reborn is the only chance for his kind as well as his son to survive. so he had to let his son walk to his death, what a pitty and i could not imagine how hard that could be for the monster bulk king. 5. so actually, it is erlang and most of the monsters, who are trying to test the destined one to see whether the one is qualitied as a successor of wukong (see what erlang says in 09:23). because they know they will face the same destiny like wukong when wukong is truely gone. 6. the East celestrial court, the West budda world is actually in potical balance, applying the policy of appeasement between monsters. the fighting between the monsters are somehow proxy war (it is in the game memo too, but very hintful). they love to see the monsters, erlang, and the wukong getting weak, and love to see the destined one being put on the headband again too. 7. the whole story of wukong, in the journey to the west, and in this black myth, are all talking about monsters and those are considered lesser, play alone or fight back to to get freedom from a well centralized and very cruel polictical court. and some budda and some god in the celestrial court are helping wukong because they owe wukong a favor, or they own to wukong's real master, or they have conciousness so they help to see whether there could be the possible changes to that centralized court. 8. when erlang fights the destined one in the game, he often says: "no one can kill the monkey, except himself (01:23)". that is very hintful, saying he is not the one who kill wukong if it was not wukong wants it. after erlang loses to the destined one, he then says: "my brothers tested you at my behest, all for this day" (09:23)...." "mortal death for unbound mind and will" , "may you not fail him... i am now at peace..." (he is not angry at all and give back wukong's memory, again proves that erlang was taking his time to fully understand wukong's suicide, and he was helping but not murdering wukong in the first place. ) 9. remember if it is not erlang who killed wukong, there will be others who will keep fight wukong soon or later, today or another. and wukong will be hunted and eventually be killed because the headband is so powerful in restraining his immortal power. so, wukong had thought about that, then took erlang to the fight and then to a duel, actually means wukong trusted erlang with wukong's memory, mind and will. (they have very closed realtionship in other related chinese myth and related novels) 10. above are some conlusions to the good ending of wukong.

Think in erlang's shoes: Erlang cannot dis-obey the orders from the celestrial court, otherwise the court will hunt him too. so, he had to kill the monkey's kind but not necessarily from his true will. in another word, he had to blend him in and earn trust from celetrial court. 2. then you need to think in monkey's shoes. if monkey know erlang's position he will understand why erlang had killed his kind. What should monkey say at that moment? monkey cannot say: "you from celestrial court are all bastards, oh, sorry, except erlang because i need erlang's help.. " so the monkey includes him, but that's not a blame to erlang. 3. Celetrial court never believes anyone, not erlang, not monkey. they are politicians, as long as erlang is killing then they do not mind what erlang's true thinking. they play powers and force people to kill to maintain their powers. so, all the monsters and erlang himself, they have to obey and lie, to pretend, and to find a twisting, suffering, and a very clever way to help in secret. did i explain it well? i do not know. but keep in mind, this is not just a novel or a game, it shows the darkside of the monarchy system. it happens in reality. in our history, each time when people wanted to destory the king and his system, no matter in what dynasty, they often ends up like wukong (the uprising leader), erlang(some general with good heart) and monsters(anyobe who helps). they all end up dieing until the power of the whole system gets weaker and gets to be eliminated.

In the good ending, with the memory from Erlang, he realized the meaning of the headband, so he refused, with his head raising up. It is quite photophysical. JTTW is a timeless title and work of art that this game RESPECTED the hell out of. An yes leaving it space to make its own Myth now which is what games about someone should do. Wu Kong's body is made of stone. The sword wielder needs to exert power and magic in an intentional attack move to actually cut through his skin - just for a bit. During the above moment, the sword might slide against the stone but wouldn't be able to cut into it. But yeah, still a CGI glitch though, they could have made it better.

Real question is, Sekiro or Wukong? Combat/gameplay wise, I give to Sekiro as the parries and combat was extremely satisfying & was more difficult. Graphic wise, Wukong's cinematics especially only for this fight was probably the best I've ever seen. I'll have them on equal terms but for different reasons if that makes sense. 10/10

No I literally fought the stone monkey got my ass kicked by the great sage broken shell and found out that erlang wasn’t the final boss and that I was on the actual last mission. So I went back and did all the side quest before going back. You have to do a lot basically the quest for spell binder, all the secret bosses from chapter 1 3 4 and 5, then collect all the scandas, the last scanda for conscience is in chapter 6 huago where you go to this area where you beat the large rock sitting on the edge, you have to fly though the canyon and there will be this huge ass giant rock boss, biggest boss ive seen in the game, beat him then after that I think it gives you the ability to the great pogada secret area and the baby Buddha will grant you the ability to go to Mt mei a secret area on a painting to confront erlang. I beat erlang, then after beating him, I went back to fight the broken shell and got the good ending, so I had already half way finished the final battle and still was able to go back and obtain the good ending with out losing progress

​@@joshwilliams9922I'm on my 3rd new game plus right now, pretty sure once you beat the bosses in the 4 secret areas and finish the treasure hunter quest Buddha will tell you to go back to the Great Pagoda to fight Erlang without having to get the Skandas. I'll double check it on the next playthrough and update though

So the gods manipulate the events so that Wukong's allies all betray him and get him killed, then lead "the destined one" to gather all of Wukong's gear, power, five senses, etc, creating a loyal version of Wukong. In the bad ending, this plan works out and you let the old monk put the golden headband on you, becoming a puppet. In the good ending, you most importantly meet Erlang Shen(Wukong's friend) and learn about Wukong's counter plan. His golden headband(causes him extreme headaches if the gods recite a curse) prevents his freedom. He first lets Erlang Shen kill him(he is way harder to kill in Journey To The West) to escape from the golden headband so that one day, a destined one with the same motive to be free, will rise and take his place. Erlang Shen also hid Wukong's memory in his third eye just before he died and gave it to you in a side quest so that in the good ending, you truly share the will of Wukong, fusing with his five senses into the old Wukong, now free from the headband's curse.

@@KIRA_93 Fighting Loong without sitting on your staff makes the games flaws VERY obvious. He is right, its closer to an 8 than a 10. Its beautiful, its got a great story, and it has tons of hidden areas and events. But again, it has its flaws. So much of the game is about changing your build, or building for each boss that it becomes a chore when you literaly cannot even hit some of the bosses without a work around.
