I think the Skif ending (first in video) is the best because you get to defeat all the main characters, not that I am a fan of boss fights. The doctor, I chose to leave him alone, which just seemed right. The end result is full of future possibilities.

Soap died just like Yuri in the newer version. Makarov was practically saying “Goodbye, Captain Price.” Like in the original while holding a pistol to Price’s face, then Soap tried to save him, but unfortunately Makarov gave him a fatal shot to the head, just like Yuri.

Markus' part really hits hard, literally breaking through the barriers that will give him free will

i would bet money that the original scene (if there was an equivalent to it anyway) was probably something more vague and metaphorical, probably still a little cringe and heavy-handed, but at least believable within the setting of a fantasy story. and then the publisher or developer higher-ups hired one of those "sensitivity evaluation" companies to comb over the preliminary script. the evaluation company probably nitpicked at this scene (and others) urging rewrites. rewrites happen, script is resubmitted. evaluation company still nitpicks. this goes on back-and-forth for some time until the writing team starts feeling the pressure of looming deadlines. then, they just write the most blatant, on-the-nose conversation just to push the damn script out the door because they no longer have time to iterate. reason i think this is because a lot of larger developers/publishers are hiring those kinds of companies these days to "evaluate" their scripts and sensitivity when writing characters. this is because that most large video game companies even today are staffed mostly by straight men and the higher ups/shareholders don't want to be put on blast online that their script was inadvertently offensive because the dudes writing it maybe unintentionally wrote something that could be misconstrued into being offensive. but everyone's a little offensive. not everyone can be PC 24/7. but because it's a product that's being sold, the higher-ups are likely super paranoid about bad press. bad press on an offensive game is inherently bad. shareholders freak out. but if a game is overly inclusive, it's easy to spin negative fan reaction as "non-progressives whining" or whatever. it's a win-win because there are always people that will sing a game's praises for the most low-effort attempts at inclusivity. it also doesn't help that these games are presumably very long and by the time an average person gets to one of these scenes, they're far beyond the refund date on steam or other platforms. most purchases for games are done within the release window with additional purchases later on trickling in as hype dies down (or word spreads in this case lol). but as long as enough people preordered or purchased it outright around release, the company still wins.
