I am decentish at IRL guitar and pretty damn good at Expert Guitar Hero/Clone Hero and it still irks me when people say this. 5 buttons and one strum function does not compare to 22 frets and 6 strings in terms of difficulty. Just because Smells Like Teen Spirit is considered “easy” on a real electric guitar does not make it still a lot more complex than a colored plastic button game, Guitar Hero is NOT very hard.

I believe they were referring to the vocals. Up until guitar hero III: Legends of rock, the team at Neversoft recorded covers of the songs to put in the game. This includes guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, and most obviously the vocals.

Oh yeah. The people recorded their own voices. There's even a "backstage" video that shows them recording on the guitar hero 2 game. I will say that some of their vocals are decent but so off that it just sounds horrible.

After guitar hero's 80's edition I think they cut the labor of recording and just used original sounds. Either they got the hint and figured it out themselves or too many complaints that the sounds were trash. Regardless, good music that was a step down, like a cover band.

Christian Black Actually, GH3 was the first GH developed by Neversoft. The first 3 (1, 2, and Rocks the 80's) were by Harmonix. Their cover band for most of the songs they couldn't afford licensing to was called WaveGroup, and if you think Heart Shaped Box is bad, listen to their cover of Beast and the Harlot
