A Cappella Hymns

6 жыл бұрын

Lyrics - Edward Perronet (1779) & John Rippon (1787)
Music - James Ellor (1838)
Key - Bb Major
Tempo ~ 106 bpm
Please enjoy these simple recordings and feel free to give suggestions and requests! Thumbs up?... What did you like? Thumbs down?... What can I change for you?
Keep in mind that the main purpose of these videos is to help folks learn harmony parts to hymns and not to sound perfect. These recordings will sound a touch raw for a few reasons; I am not a trained singer, I am using very simple recording hardware, my recording 'studio' is a coat closet that is just big enough for me to fit in. ( :
If you enjoy the way that these hymns are sang and want to experience them in person, stop by just about any church of Christ and they'll likely be singing them the same way. Without instruments.
My recording process:
-Record each part on a Rode NT1-A on to a Zoom H4 recorder
-Some pitch correction in Melodyne
-Mix in Mixcraft 6
-Combine audio and sheet music in Corel VideoStudio X7
-Music is typeset in Finale 2012 by me or borrowed from PDHymns.com
-Gear can be found here: www.zzounds.com...
To my knowledge, most of the hymns that I record and post are public domain (except the ones I've obtained permission for). If you notice one that is NOT public domain, let me know as soon as possible so that I can take that video down.

To those that love this hymn... I recommended this one to Elliot 2 years ago and he did it for us! What a guy! So thankful for his hard work to provide us with these awesome recordings of the hymns we don't get to hear.

I am Italian and I can admit that I barely listened to a stunning sacred hymn like this. It is hard to learn, mostly because it is not in my mothertonque, nonetheless I will try. It Is so nice to think that, regardless of language and culture, we are united by the only One Who can unite the world: Jesus Christ. Merry Holy Christmas everyone!

This rolicking joyful version (of many) is indeed best sung A Capella. Our big city Methodist minister in OKC long ago used it periodically. (definitly not enhanced by organ). I discovered historic Eastern Orthodox Christianity long ago. Our Liturgy traces to the 4th c via St. John Chrysostom and is sung A Capella. At 88 I sing bass in our small choir led by lady from St Petersburg Russia.

This kind of helps me get a better idea of the patterns behind a Welsh hymn that has enraptured me in the past. It's to the same tune but it's called "Cyduned y nefolaidd gor".

This is so beautiful! I feel like I'm in Heaven! Can I request another song entitled "Majestic Sweetness Sits Entroned" Words by Samuel Stennett; Music by Thomas Hastings. I found the words and shape notes in the PDhymns. God bless you! I hope you keep inspiring Christians in the midst of uncertainties.

A Cappella Hymns True! As are many songs. I'm definitely used to the other version. When our congregation first learned The Greatest Commands, they struggled a bit, but now it's fantastic. Just takes a bit.

Not just a melismatic refrain but the melismatic singing is sung as a sub-baes echo (like the "leaning on Jesus" echo in Leaning on the Ever lasting Arms)

The question relative to Coronation (the Holden Tune, also known as the common arrangement) was sent twice was due to cell reception. As you know, I send posts from a cell phone and I did not know if the original question went through. The second question was therefore sent as a followup.

@@lady_keren - Ah, okay. Yeah, it's sometimes tough for me to do copyrighted hymns which is anything written 1925 and newer. I've got some basic guidelines for requests in the video descriptions of these videos. One of them is that I prefer requests to be public domain. You've requested quite a few lately and a few of them are public domain. So we're good. ( :

Great job with these recordings. How much pitch correction are you using? At first it sounded a bit "too perfect". Just wondering if you have near perfect pitch, or whether the software is doing the work. Perhaps you do not need as much as you think.

@@acappellahymns It has a glorious history; the chorus would be sung over and over during the Welsh revivals of yesteryear. It's in one of my hymnals "Great Hymns of the Faith"; the writer was a Samuel Davies (who lived in the 1700s). The tune was by John Newton. (The bass line has the melody for most of the chorus)

Is it some sort of copyright issue. Check out the channel creator's vlog. He had to remove a whole lot of videos because his slides he was using were actually copyrighted and he had a cease and desist. Once he gets new slides, he'll re-upload. Just have a little bit of patience.

A Cappella Hymns I find it interesting to hear people say they have never heard this version. I grew up in an Episcopalian church on the east coast, and am very familiar with this version. This version is arranged for "performance", i.e. if the choir chooses to sing this without the congregation . The version most people are familiar with is the version arranged for the congregation to sing together. In my church, we would sing the version most people are familiar with as a closing hymn.

Do you have the tune Miles Lane
@peterwarner358
@peterwarner358 5 жыл бұрын
It is the 3rd tune to which this hymn can be sung. The Lutheran Boolk of Worship has it. You can find it on page 329. Most congregations today sing Coronation (commonly known as Holden). This piece, Diadem (AKA ELLOR) does not occur in the ELCA hymn books, but is listed along with Miles Lane in the earlier LCMS/ELDONA, WELS, and pre-LBW LCA/ALC hymn books including TLH 1940, SBH 1958, MISSION PRAISE, LW 1982, AND MORE RECENTLY, LSB 2006.
