My dad's favourite song 😭..my dad took his last breath on 1-1-2024 and we sang this song on his funeral for the last time..i wish i have played this song and let him listen when he was still alive .. this song really brings back many memories of him..he would be really charmed by your melody if he listens to it but now it's too late 😭

Never listened to the crown hin ye martyrs verse. What is the accurate fullest version?

Hi John, I am not sure if there is an “accurate” or “official” number of verses. As with many hymns, alternate verses are often written by other people at different times. In the Cantus Christi (2020 version), which is what I used when I recorded this, it says that verses 1-4 were by Edward Perronet in 1780. Verses 5 and 6 were by John Rippon in 1787.
