World Champion Magnus Carlsen and 11 more of the world's best chess players are competing in the Chessable Masters by chess24, the 3rd event in the $1 million Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour, taking place from June 20 to July 5. The 12 players will first be reduced to 8 in a 4-day knockout stage split into two groups. The A Group features Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura, Daniil Dubov, Alexander Grischuk, Vladislav Artemiev and Harikrishna.
The players play each other twice in rapid chess over 10 rounds, with the top 4 then advancing to the knockout stage. The time control is 15 minutes for all moves, with a 10-second increment from move 1. No draw offers are allowed before move 40. The tournament is sponsored by Chessable, the world's leading online chess training platform. Official website: chess24.com/tour

Well his line was computer preparation. That doesn't take away the genius of it though because he still had to convert the positional advantage for a loss of pawn into a win and he did that flawlessly.

He calculated very little. He knew the leela engine variations Giri may play and capitalized on it. Easy to tell with that much time on the clock. Magnus was more prepared. Best giri would have got in that line was probably a draw with perfect play.

At one point he was up more than 10 minutes on the clock and at the time agad anounced completelly new game he still had like 17 minutes+ (they start at 15 minutes). When I was much younger, playing Chess on the High School Chess Club, I used to play the Queens Gambit Declined as Black. My problem with the Queens Gambit Declined, and the Nimzo-Indian also, is the Queen's Bishop on the White Squares. The Fianchetto of the Bishop, that Grandmaster Giri is the best one can do with the Bishop, yet it takes time to do the Fianchetto. White has an opportunity to gain a move in the tempo lost when Black develops the Bishop with the Fianchetto. At least that is the way I see the Defense.

You didn't do this game justice. It's not that you said anything wrong, it's your tone. You imply it was a normal game with errors on both sides that Magnus managed to pull out, and nothing more. In fact, Magnus's performance was amazing! He essentially played perfect moves one after another which, despite a great defense, resulted in a devastating attack. I.e., Giri played very, very well, but Magnus capitalized incrementally on slight opportunities to such an extent that his attack ended up embarrassingly strong. This was arguably a masterpiece even under classical time controls!
