Just want to say thanks. Found your channel awhile back probably round same time I found TIK. I’m a 45 old chef In Cleveland. Smoking a shit ton of reefer and goin back in time. I’ve read Where Titans Clashed. Just finished Kiev 1941 and I’m now starting Stahel’s Retreat from Moscow. As an 🇺🇸 I was never really taught about the struggle in the East. I would really like to get Glantz Stalingrad trilogy but $$. My point is?! With all that’s going on with all our of our lives that we can connect and come together from all over the world to honor and remember what came before. I just had a long rough day and I get to come home roll one up and kick back and not only learn but be entertained at the same time!! Keep ‘em coming !!!

It was a fundamental character flaw of Paulus and his staff officers that he did not do what he thought best, even at a risk of being shot for his decision. Obedience is I am sure a fine military virtue but surely not at the expense of a 300,000 man army. I am sure none of the allied high command leading generals would have been so pusillanimous. But then again they came from a different culture.

Good job as usual. Well researched history with an almost fly-on-the-wall like quality to it! I can't even imagine the atmosphere and tension in both Paulus' and Vasilevsky's headquarters at this time. The German commanders in the area seeing their (worst) fears materialize in an attack of sorts on the flanks knowing full well they didn't have the flexibility/freedom (i.e. orders to stand fast, and the run down state of their forces in the area) to deal with it, and the Russians - after trying and failing miserably god knows how many times before (Kotluban and the like) - going at it once more, being aware there was a good chance the operation might not succeed for a multitude of reasons.
@Armageddon4145

It is still shocking to me how many people are turned off by the voice acting. This is world class content even if the dialogue was voiced by someone with a severe speech impediment. What really disgusts me is that Paulus could have ordered a general withdrawal out of Stalingrad, then they would not be in this mess. But Paulus ever the loyal Nazi just obeyed and carried out whatever order was given and saluted "Heil Mein Fuhrer". Again Great Job with this episode.
@vespasian606
@vespasian606 2 жыл бұрын
He wasn't the only one obsessed with following orders even if they came from someone not qualified to give them. Having also watched TIK's content and read a book or two as well I dont think it's necessarily that simple. The lack of fuel for the motor transport would have to be a major factor as all the horses had already been sent to the rear. In addition his front line infantry units were exhausted in just about every aspect. Another factor to be considered is that nothing happens in a vacuum. For one thing the Soviets would have reacted and those spearheads which turned west would likely have been redirected in the direction of Paulus. The main Soviet objective was sixth army and if sixth army moved so would they. If he withdrew anyway I think the best he could hope to achieve was to force a battle outside the city. I'm inclined to leave the outcome of that theoretical situation to more informed minds than mine.
@hollowmstr
@hollowmstr 2 жыл бұрын
Well, I have to agree. I have read a number of accounts, from what I understand the Sixth Army was in shape and was not as mobile as one would think. The Soviets were more mobile than the Germans were, the Germans would have had to march out on foot from Stalingrad. The early signs of trouble showed up all the way back in the early Autumn when then the Germans moved their divisions out of the Sixth Army's left and right flanks and gave the Romanians and Italians the job of protecting the Sixth Army. I have to agree, I would leave the events of history as they are. The Germans created a situation that the Soviets were wise to exploit.

I know it's not popular to go against the "madman Hitler" card these days, but lets look at the situation. The 6th Army was warning the OKH and Hitler that sh** was going to go down. Paulus, as the Commander would know best the strength of the forces against him. He's telling Hitler and the General staff that they will be in trouble if they don't protect the flanks. He was ignored. He's saying here even before the southern pincer began that they need to pull back southwest. He's also expressing his dilemma and frustration in that he cannot go against Hitler or High Command orders. He asked to abandon Stalingrad and was refused. Essentially the fate of the 6th Army was sealed because Hitler and the High Command in Berlin underestimated the Russians ability to mount such an offensive.The only thing you can blame Paulus for is that he didn't push hard enough

Absolutely love this channel and its content, but I cannot, I repeat cannot find myself in an immersive position watching this when listening to deep American accents covering German soldiers. I'm not a fan of it. The circumstances behind the Soviet war against the German invasion of WWII and the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 could not be more different. To not have respect for the Soviet solider/citizenry is historically illiterate TIK has a good video about the history of the "blocking detachments". It is crazy how many people view current day Russia through the lens of Soviet revival/Red Scare. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gICucnx6pbSMbpI&ab_channel=TIKhistory
