2003 Hulk - Most accurate to the comic book look, purple pants included. Largest Hulk with perhaps the most demonstrable strength. Doesn't look like Eric Bana at all. Most in-depth on the character level, focuses on psychological drama rather than action. Lacks a cohesive story, especially when it comes to the Hulk, he just does stuff. Some bland acting in a lot of places. Hulk characterisation also off, doesn't convey true rage very well. Perhaps the worst CGI but forgivable since it's 2003 2008 Hulk - the best coherent story with a more iconic and fleshed out villain. Well acted, particularly on Norton's part. Conflict between Banner and Hulk is protrayed accurately and well. Hulk's rageful nature is conveyed well. Smallest of the Hulks with perhaps the least demonstrable strength. CGI is convincing and realistic but Hulk the most different from the comics. Doesn't look like Norton much. Skips the origins which is a nice touch, shows good exposition on Banner learning to live with the condition (yoga, anger management, etc) 2012+ Hulk - Ruffalo plays a new take on Banner, interesting chemistry with the other Avengers especially Stark and Romanoff. Some good exposition given he doesn't have a solo film dedicated to him (put a bullet in my mouth etc). Hulks acts the most true-to-life for how a 10+ft rage monster might move around. Best Hulk for looking like the actor. Good demonstration of rage; weaker than 2008 but better than 2003. Gets the best CGI overall with the best shade of green. Transforms well with good compromise between comic accurate 2003 and painfully realistic 2008. Overall, 2012 is the best in terms of compromise between 2003 and 2008. It marries the comic book accuracy of 2003 with the deep and interesting realistic characterisation of 2008.

2003 Hulk had a lot of detail, but his face looked normal. 2008 Hulk was much slimmer, but he had the rage and savage appereance he needed, but still knew when to look gentle. The Avengers Hulk had great CGI, looked detailed and was balanced in both speed and strength, but he was acting less like a rage fueled monster and more like a gorilla in some of his mannerisms, which was kind of uncharacteristic for him. Overall, I'd say each one of them had their ups and downs, but they're all amazing to me. :)

I'm strickly talkin' CG here. The only knock I have on the 03 Hulk is that he is a tad too neon. Other than that, they did a phenomenal job with him. '03 and '12 Hulks are both stellar in how they were done. The 2008 Hulk looks like an anime character. Overdone, and I can image is the one younger audiences perfer visually. I don't like the lean look- Hulk has never had it, and it doesn't suit, imo.

I preferred The Incredible Hulk over Hulk by far. Norton was a good Bruce Banner, and hearing Lou Ferrigno doing the speaking part during that film saying "Hulk Smash" was a great moment. Shame they used Ruffalo's voice when he said "Puny God" in The Avengers, instead of Ferrigno's, though they did use his voice for a lot of the growling and roaring in that film.

However superman is already at a severe strength advantage to hulk (hulk could potentially reach the same level of strength but it would take some time) and is way too fast and versatile for him therefore if superman went all out from the start without stopping hulk couldn't do much to him except get speed blitzed and KO'd. However if you were to have a battle between the two with nothing but strength that would be a much more balanced battle :). Again I'm saying all this as a major hulk fanboy

I worked in CGI back in 1996-1999 and it already was actually very good. Things dramatically improved around 1997 with Radiance rendering, the algorithms that introduced actual light behavior against surfaces in relation to their shinyness/transparency. But even in earlier CGI work there were some really cool results at times, consider the T-1000 in Terminator2 (1988) was fully CGI animated...with 3DStudio DOS (yup...) and renderings were peformed in a huge 486dx-2 renderfarm in a 3500 square meter hangar...CPUs ran at 12 MHz LOL

For me, the Edward Norton Hulk and the Hulk design for that 2008 film was the best of the bunch. The anger, intensity, and power could be seen in that one more than the 2003 film and Avengers versions. 2003 looks too cartoony, and the Avengers one just lacks those darker qualities and looks more like a mascot.
