Door, cullis, stained glass window, smaller normal window in wall, ends of barrels, in a stack... You could even do things with a fair bit of depth, like fireplaces and fountains.

Idea for an improvement to the portals... use a mod-podge textured transparent insert and behind the "portal" place a small box with the landscape printed on all sides. This would give the effect of shifting perspective through the portal.

If you want stained glass, use paper and draw or print onto the paper. Coloured pencils are good as the colours won't run but whatever works for you. Now get a bit of vegetable or mineral oil and apply it to the paper. The paper becomes translucent. You can then apply it to a suitable window portal. Instant stained glass :) Fixing spray may help if the image wants to come off. Art students seem to use lots of it. Look on art stores, it's cheap.

I saw that technique but I preferred the printing on transparencies look, problem is lockdown stopped me doing it properly. If you use the same files I show on photo paper here, but printed on transparencies (which you can get done for not much in a print shop) it looks tons better :)

Very cool video! Putting a pin in the top and bottom of an insert could make an easy secret/concealed door.

Cool idea! I actually have an idea for a secret door players can't tell is there... But I've got a lot of cool ideas to get out the door so that one might be a while!

It would be a bit harder to do the card inserts with there own cut outs, but you could print stuff on projector transparencise to try and have your portals partially transparent

One can make different shapes for the windows for other build styles and even make an arch with a corner halfway up. That way, you can either use as-is for an arch or add an insert that goes halfway in (up to the corner as a stopper) for a smaller window.

Ou... Nice! Gave me some inspiration to build some 40k terrain. While I love the industrial stuff I also love the gothic cathedral looking stuff. And something similar to these could be made so they would work for 40k and medieval/fantasy alike depending on what removable decorative elements are used.

Yeah, I was quite right. Brilliant. Making these. Stealing the portal trap room idea. Oh and I had similar problems with cheap photo paper in a HP printer. Once I changed paper type in the printer options to (I think) 'Other photo paper' it works perfectly, not a single smudge.

Another great video! I had seen this one awhile ago but came back to it recently. I converted your free template to an STL file to 3dprint for easy repeated uses since my hand tremors can sometimes make it hard to cut straight :) It can be used as a stencil on the hotwire table as well :) Let me know if you want them and thanks for yet another great video tutorial!!!

I can't help but think what this build really also needs is flying buttresses. I don't know how many places such a piece would even be useful, though, so it's pretty low hanging fruit. Not like you other, "make for this thing, use for these other dozen things" Maybe if you had some sort of open, arched roof piece (so the top is at an angle) you could put on columns (and not attach the roof to) edit: Also, that cloister probably looks even better with the grass tiles, but do you have anything that could be used as garden beds?
@RPArchiveOfficial
@RPArchiveOfficial 2 жыл бұрын
Flying buttresses I considered, but abandoned as they were too specific and not modular enough, at least for this early build. Still might add them in future :) I really want to do crop fields at some point, if that counts...
@ghostbirdofprey
@ghostbirdofprey 2 жыл бұрын
@@RPArchiveOfficial Yeah, exactly my thought: they'd look really great, but aren't a super good fit for the system as a whole. Crop fields is definitely something that would be interesting to have, but I was thinking something more like raised beds growing flowers and medicinal herbs like how the necromancer's study added the flower boxes. Seems like something you'd find in a cloister, or next to the apothecary and that nice old lady's house.

I really wanna know what that end music is. The instrumental bit. Not really sure where I've heard it before, but its super familiar. I absolutely love your attention to detail, consistency, and symmetry. and makes me want to start crafting terrain and tiles myself. unfortunately, haven't really got the space or means for it right now, but maybe later.

Not a crafting channel, but I messed around with gaming for a few months :) As for the environments, keep an eye on the channel, plenty more big ideas are coming... It's really just a matter of how quick I can get things done/build up the free time to do some more big projects - I've spread myself a little thin recently by working so hard at the channel!

I own a proxxon Thermacutter. That has a smaller area and shorter wire. I think my highest pieces can be 15cm but then im really going line by line. Anyhow i notice you and others have like a big wooden plate that you press your foam towards for easy clean cuts. Is that something you made yourself or is it just a more expensive thermocutter?
