This reminds me of something said by Dana of A Slob Comes Clean. She says there's such a thing as "dishes math." One day's dishes takes 15 minutes to deal with, but if you leave it for three days, it takes more like two hours to do, because half of it is dried on, all of it is chaotic, and it no longer all fits in your dishwasher or on your dish rack, so it takes extraordinary effort to deal with. Same principal applies to pretty much every daily chore.

My grandmother taught me to cook. She always got everything out that she would need, ran a sink of hot water, then set to work, putting each ingredient away as she cooked, and washing each bowl, pan or utensil as she went. By the end, the kitchen was clean, so we only faced tableware and dishes after the meal. Now, I do my morning and evening routines the same way. With the cooking, it sort of makes me feel like a fancy chef, too

Such helpful tips. Love your videos. This one made me really realize how much coming home to an unmade bed and a sink full of breakfast and lunch dishes doesn't help my longing for peace when I walk into my house. I want to just sit down and chill out, but I can't stand those 2 areas being "undone." Like many households, my spouse works from home now all week so I get home from my job away from home to clean up the mess he left in various areas as he navigates his busy day. I don't complain directly to him as he is the bread winner in our house and does many other tasks/chores, but it would help my mind to come home after a long day of substitute teaching to not have to pick up more messes.

We have finally conquered Mt Dishmore, we have 2 college kids and 2 adults, we hated doing dishes, we now rinse and put dishes into sink or at least put water in them and leave in sink, then whoever has time they will put dishes into dishwasher, then every night we start the dishwasher and unload it in the morning by whoever gets there first, so it is ready for that days dirty dishes, it works good for us. We manually wash mybig items and pots and pans.

I LOVE "Mt Dishmore" - that's HILARIOUS!! Good for you that you've worked out a functioning system in your house - that's the goal for all of us. Hats off to you!

I used to pull an outfit for each day of the week and place them on one side of the closet. Then each night, pull the outfit for that day including shoes so I didn’t have to think so early in the am. Prepping is less stress.🤓

One could also make the bed, but drape the top layer down neatly so it's airing, but in a soothing, not chaotic way.

I have a breakfast cereal container with a flip lid that I put a bin liner in and use as a bin (trash can) in the car. Every time it is full or I'm out near a bin I empty it. It really helped me, just need to train the other half to use it now lol. I love the habit stuff in this video, I'm going to look into that more. I always do a paper reset on a Thursday, purse, handbag, paying bills, filing, adding returns to my todo list and magazines (I cut out the pictures I want to collage in my art journal and recycle the rest). I've got better with clothing but I need to work on the kitchen because I really hate the kitchen lol

One Tiny Comment... If you open your car doors while your gas is pumping and start cleaning out trash, you might get scolded by the attendant. You are not supposed to open your car doors and fuss around in the car while your gas is pumping. It can create static electricity that can cause a fire when you go to remove the nozzle from the tank. The risk is actually quite small, especially in Texas, but there is usually still a warning telling you not to get back into your car while pumping. :)
@TheClutterFairy5 жыл бұрын
That's a helpful reminder. So then, if you're in a part of the country where static is a bigger problem, pump your gas and then pull away and park to put the trash out. Either way it won't take long. If you have a trash bin in the car, you can at least empty the bin every time you stop. Just take it out with you when you leave the car.

Speaking of cat food for mornings - when I prepare the cat food for our two cats for their evening meal, I also prepare two dishes for their morning meal, cover it with plastic wrap and put it in the fridge. When I get up about 6, all I have to do is sleep-walk to the fridge, uncover their food dishes and place them down, then either go back to bed or get ready for my day. They know they get fed around 6 am and 6 pm daily, so it works for us all.
@TheClutterFairy4 жыл бұрын
That's a great adaptation to make feeding them an easier chore in the morning! Good job!

As Petra cleans out his car at the gas station, I clear my purse when I am waiting in a line for whatever office, I sit next to the paper basket and get rid of all the receipts and expired coupons and candy wrappers etc
@grogers5115 жыл бұрын
I think I'm doing all these. I use to clean my car out before driving out in t he morning - but I would place it on the garage floor beside my door. My husband put a waste basket there for me. Now I clear it upon exit. The mail goes to my place at the kitchen table. When I see it I take a minute to strip it and park the keepers in a file hanging on the kitchen wall to deal with on my desk day. The idea of completing the cycle - helps me. Bring in the package, open it, put it in its home, dispense with the trash. Get it out, use it, put it back where it goes.

I love the idea of connecting activities to do at the same time. I do many of the things you mentioned already. One I don't do that is a biggie for me is putting the packaging where it goes when I open packages that have arrived during a day. One you didn't talk about today, but have at other times, is I keep buying new crafting items but nothing is leaving the house. I recently changed my craft from beading to quilting so I have a whole new set of items. I gave away a whole bunch of my beading items and that helped but it's still a net gain. And the one thing I still haven't addressed is the boxes and boxes of stuff I packed up when we had our floors redone. I peck away occasionally but would always rather do something else :-)

I try to add a daily clean of the bathroom to brushing my teeth. Kathy B I have to work on doing the dishes since my dishwasher broke two months ago. No money for repairs. I grocery shop once a month so I put away the cold food first and then run out of steam. Unfortunately it doesn't get put away until the next day.

I don’t ever need a plastic bag for trash in my car because every time I exit my car, I simply throw out in the trash whatever drink I just finished, or wrapper or carton (food container) I just ate from. I don’t want to use any more plastic than I absolutely have to 🙂

Summary: "Clean as you go."
@TheClutterFairy5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the summary! Was it a helpful message? I say it longer because most clients can't hear it in summary form. I have to elaborate to make it relatable. Thanks for watching!
@charmc41525 жыл бұрын
@@TheClutterFairy Absolutely Gail! I was just looking for the common denominator, and "clean as you go" was it. It's something just about everybody probably knows, but that they still need to hear sometimes, and when you explain with stories, it helps people create images in their own minds which makes what you are saying personally relatable. I appreciate your videos! 🙂👍
