"It's easier to turn attention into capital than it is to turn capital into attention." That's the perfect answer to Chamath's question. Very smart person here.

If the chess clocks had worked properly she would have won all four games, perhaps, but it was quite fun this way, and she was a terrific sport about it. (She could have gone to focussing on just 2 boards after a certain point, as the others had flagged.) All things considered, and excellent presentation and a very enjoyable segment.

Was there an illegal move or something? Why did Sacks' board get stuck? Also, JCal's time kept getting an extra minute whenever it was close to 0, wtf
@pepecebolla69
@pepecebolla69 9 ай бұрын
at 12:40 it added ~40 seconds, to get to 78 seconds at 13:58 JCal "flagged", but then at 14:14 his clock jumped back to 78 seconds again -_- at 16:45 the clock jumped again from ~16 seconds to 78 seconds... (to be fair it jumps back down to 14 at 16:59, but still..) at 17:16 it jumps again from ~1 to ~14 (that's not 2 seconds) then it does keep adding a small amount of seconds as moves are played... until it reaches 0 and resets back to 78 seconds at 17:51 lol definitely some nasty bug or the board got all messed up because of the random pieces JCal added/removed
@pepecebolla69
@pepecebolla69 9 ай бұрын
btw I reviewed Sacks' board and there wasn't an illegal move, but I think the board missed one of Alexandra's moves at some point or something; it seemed to be running 1 move behind, and then I guess it gave up when it saw what appeared to be an illegal move, but it was all legal moves in the real life board (obviously)
@pepecebolla69
@pepecebolla69 9 ай бұрын
FWIW, there are other blatant time changes: at 10:34, Sacks goes from 3m07s to 3m44s, and Alex's time in that board loses 34 seconds LOL at 15:22, Sacks goes from 12 seconds to 2m31s at 15:53, Sacks goes from 2m13s to 1m17s I call shenanigans!!

Sacks’ clock on the screen was completely bugged (randomly adding/removing >5s) but it sounded like the clock itself was fine from what they were saying. Too bad they didn’t make it 10m and cut down on the opening banter (like Jcal’s cringe “lose to a girl” comment). I think she underestimated how difficult it’d be to focus on stage with the jokes and shenanigans.
