It wouldn’t be a classic IRL crash compilation without Scott Sharp involved.

This was the 1999 race at Dover.

People say that CART was unsafe. But I would argue that Indycar was _just_ as unsafe. Whoever decided to send open wheelers to Dover (twice!) was a dipstick and a half.

Shame I wanted to go to the two races so bad. I remember my dad telling me tickets were like 50-60 bucks (in 98-99). When the cup races were like 35.

They need to start racing at more oval like this

@@AshtainOneal45 Yup. Ovals like Gateway, Milwaukee, Iowa, and Nashville are fine due to the lower banking and track width. I'd say Richmond is another good one they can race at, as well as New Hampshire. They may be fine at Michigan now if they restrict the power output but with how Pocono went in 2018 and 2019 it's highly unlikely. The only counter point is the Indy 500 where they get up to 230mph+ throughout that race, but again, flatter track.

No not at tracks like Dover

@@ceeinfiniti1389 we still need some big ovals. The sport is safer than 2011 and the sport and tracks need to stop being stuck in 2011

@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT Same with Nascar. The cars are too restricted/easy to drive.

I watched this race a long time ago, and unfortunately, IndyCar never came back to Dover again for the rest of their lives cause it was too dangerous for open wheel cars to race on a oval that's narrow. The biggest crash I saw the most is the one at turn 2, with Eliseo Salazar losing the rear wing on his car and going on his side, and collected John Hollansworth Jr. in the process. IndyCar Racing never came back to Dover again after 2 years.

@@KellieLeigh48 I was talking about the 1999 season, not the first one from 1998, I was talking about the second and last visit from 1999. Cause the name of the year said 1998 by mistake.
