Honestly her character is so likeable and relatable then what Brie Larson brought to the table. I'm pretty sure the reason was because her father always called her his "little scarab" and Tawaret knew that as she met her father in the afterlife, so she made her superhero costume a scarab to honor that father-daughter connection. (Also because in the comics there's a character by her father's name who was a superhero called scarlet scarab.) But yeah, Taweret gave Layla a costume to kick ass, look great in, and would honor her lost father. Now THAT is how you treat an avatar. Take some fucking notes Konshu
