This is one of my favorite episodes. It is such a great example of how great deku would be if it weren't for him trying to be all might. Deku's main strengths (apart from his, well, physical strength) are his smarts and creativity and this episode perfectly shows that

The author is a big Star Wars fan so Gran Torino appearance as well as his senility is a reference to Yoda. Also it's the pretty common route in animes to not have the master tell the student anything, just give cryptic suggestions and have the students figure out the lesson by their own. Also Shoto Todoroki chose endeavor's agency to intern at because Endeavor is the No. 2 hero. Regardless of how he feels about his father, endeavor has the instincts and experience of a top tier hero. He will have the opportunity to learn a lot.

In addition, Ojiro (Tailman) is designed based on Luke Skywalker. Hosu (pronounced like Hoss) is a reference to Hoth. A bunch of other place names like Tatooine, Naboo and Kamino also show up.

One of the things I love about this series, is that improvements in a characters quirk often doesn't come from a raw increase in power, while that aspect isin't understated, the improvements usually come from a better understanding and rethinking of the application of a characters quirk, always thought that was pretty cool.
