Amazing. I'm Norwegian and I've been learning Russian for the past two years. I've fallen in love with the language and can't ever stop. However, it is so difficult I often sit here feeling I've made no progress. But it's my love for the language that keeps me going during the difficult times. Hoping that I will be fluent one day

Dude, keep at it. It can be very frustrating when you plateau at a language or don't see any progress. But if you persevere there will be a sudden spurt of growth. I'm a native Russian speaker and a language teacher, I think it's super cool that you are interested in learning a Slavic language 💪💪💪 Best of luck 😎 Удачи! А я сейчас изучаю Иврит. Это тоже очень интересный язык.

Russian language is bizarrely difficult, because it is counterintuitive. Achieving fluency may prove to be an unattainable dream. I am not trying to discourage you, but Russian language has long halted to evolve and adapt to the modern world, so many rules may contradict themselves. You can't really be fluent unless you find yourself feeling comfortable in a Russian-speaking environment. But I wouldn't recommend going to Russia till it remains a dictatorship regiment. As for me, the only valid reason I may use it today is to read Russian classics because of the beauty of word play and untranslatable adjectives called epithets. And, of course, to reach my relatives who cannot use other languages but Russian.

Suggestions To find bi lingual Norwegian or English + Russian materials books in Norwegian to learn Russian Russian to learn Russian videos + dialogue in Russian + Russian + Norwegian subtitles,. vice versa reference grammars for both languages books or websites (Wikipedia in English) to point by point compare both. song lyrics---to learn lyrics+ translations Wikipedia,,etc..has lyrics in Russian + English. translations,,including amazing world famous popular songs, like Ochi Chorniye(Dark Eyes), Pod---Moskovye Vyecher? Dear Miss Lindie, I completely understand health issues and im sorry you having to work through those issues. I myself sadly have a great many health trouble too. Since I woke from a coma three years ago learning. Remembering how to even speak again was a very difficult. My mother tongue is English but also studied German since I was a child of 11 years. I forgot both languages 🤯. At one point I remember when trying to speak with my nurses that my only method was blinking yes and no. I didn't know how to chew or swallow. This was extremely frustrating i couldn't even write as i found i had forgotten how to. I had to restart and relearn. I still have brain damage sadly. Of course that is not going away. Its a continual process of acceptance. Im sure you can imagine how frustrating this can also be for my wife and family. My short term memory doesn't work very well. My life has been completely turned upside down and backwards. Im disabled now. Over three years ago I fully capable and was able to function in reality. Now I cannot. I take twenty seven different medications daily and now one injection once a week. Yeah 👍 !! I'm on supplemental oxygen all day and night. Im still recovering from several surgical procedures and one open heart surgery. Wahoo! Long story short....i know i know....way too late hahaha. Ive been studying languages for years and don't remember hearing the word "polyglot". Multi lingual sure i knew that. You have have been an inspiration and great teacher and I thank you. I'm not able to go anywhere unless it is to a Drs appointment. Bleh boring... They are all great Drs.! So my time is spent with a few wonderful opportunities and options. I learn languages. And paint in multiple mediums but right now my favorite is watercolour painting. Here's the really fun part for me. I can remember many things from my long-term memory but short-term is horrible. This means I am novice in everything. Almost like a child. Im very very sorry... this is part of the process for me and I am so sorry. As you can tell. I just keep typing. Im very sorry. I have recovered most of my German and some English as you can tell haha. But also I am trying to aquire Dutch, Danish, Norwegian, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Romanian, Swedish, Slovakian, Slovenian, Czech, Polish, Croatian and Afrikaans. As i don't have any other people to communicate with as i can't go anywhere. This has been extremely enlightening and fun. Am I proficient? Not yet! fluent perhaps in English and German but I have no doubt that I CAN aquire as many languages as I can possibly want. Im older but I am not out! I study for hours a day. I float across the languages once a week in study. Then daily I focus on a language for hours in that day. Then the next day i repeat but with a different language. For hours again. When i rest i sleep or paint. I know not popular but I use Duolingo and LINQ both together but different times daily. But with the internet what a miracle. There are hundreds of resources to learn culture to learn history attitudes of people in foreign languages. I do remember when I was Eleven Years old. Resources were not really available for German and oh yeah I forgot Spanish. In my painting I am learning to paint the different words of different languages. I listen to audiobooks in foreign languages and watch movies in the different foreign languages. I am slowly getting text books for each language as well. I am thrilled about what I am doing. Im very excited 😆😆! Oh im again very very sorry. I love watching your KZbin videos of you and other polyglots as im absorbing so much from whatever social media you or others have. Thank you so much for posting your feelings and bits of your self while expressing your ideas and inspirations in language learning.

Great video, I began learning French about 2 months ago and honestly I thought it would be impossible to really make progress but it really is just about putting proper time into it. Practicing, using multiple systems and just being fine with making baby steps has gone a long way to building confidence. J'aime écouter des podcasts dans la voiture quand je vais au travail.

Hi from japan. Lindie, could you give me the answer 4 question? 1: If you learn any one foreign language, does it help you to learn a second new language because you can use the process as a benchmark to establish a more efficient way of learning? 2: Is it easier for a language group to learn another language of the same language group, like a Spaniard learning Portuguese, a German learning Dutch or an Iranian learning Arabic, because it is easier to improve to a higher level than it should be? Or is there a risk of confusing words that exist in a foreign language similar to one's mother tongue, due to the similarities between them, which can lead to confused use? 3: Do polyglot people have to make a regular effort to relearn the language in its entirety or look up buzzwords, neologisms and slang in order to maintain a certain level of proficiency in each of the languages they have learnt? 4: Rather than becoming polyglot as an adult, is it still easier for someone with a background of education from childhood from parents who are multilingual to switch to another language without difficulty?

You talked abt how learning a language is smth u do for yourself and no one is gonna judge you BUT WHAT IF THAT IS NOT THE CASE and you gotta learn it to study in another country😭 (love ur videos btw thanks for all the advice💖) Ps: my native language is arabic 2nd is french, my french got bad with time tho i would say i'm better at english now which is my 3rd language. And now i have to learn spanish for education reasons and funny enough i used to try learning it a while ago before it was necessary and i enjoyed it but now that it became a task it's harder.

Spanish is my third language; I heard my mother talking in Spanish on the phone, but didn't learn to speak it until I grew up. I've met first-language Spanish speakers who didn't know the words "malvavisco" (which was in last week's Sabbath school lesson), "albaricoque", or "puerro" (marshmallow, apricot, or leek). Does this happen to you?

I'm an impatient person and a perfectionist and so even though I enjoy the learning journey, I still find myself disappointed that I'm not good at everything in a short period of time. I know that's not helpful to think but I can't really help it and when some people on hello talk for example tell me I don't speak well yer, I take that personally and then I don't wanna speak nevertheless because I'm afraid of making mistakes even though they're totally normal 🥲
How do polyglots learn so many languages and not mix them up?
