At 21:00 you show us a bag of dryer lint you use to help start fires with. I've got a helpful hint for you. Cut or pull that lint into 2" squares and drip candle wax on them until all the lint is covered. Next time you use your new wax covered lint, just break the hardened wax square until some of the lint fibers are showing, then light it. Now your lint fire starter will stay lit and burn for a lot longer, like a candle wick, AND it stays waterproof without having to seal it in a bag.

That is an incredible hint. Thank you much for sharing! Great stuff!

What's the adage, "When you buy quality, you only cry once." In my experience when I purchase top of the line clothes, [thinking of your leather jacket] they can look better even when worn than less expensive clothes can look even when new..
@ducatinyc7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Speaking specifically about that jacket, now that I wore it a bit it actually looks better than new :) All of this camping gear will be replaced over time because I can see a few things wearing out quickly because they were cheap.

My mom and i went to Walmart and got a 12 person tent for camping for only $5 on sale and it's so amazing... but we got it and we only have 5 people in our family and so we have extra room and it has a split middle so like 2 room 6 people can fit in each side and my parents get a side and me and my brothers get a side and so we have extra room 😍🤩🤪
@ducatinyc5 жыл бұрын
Ha! Badass! 12 person - that is insane! Probably need a whole pickup truck just to carry the damn thang :P

cool video bro! I'm new to camping too and just started getting my gear together. I follow the same logic of getting cheaper stuff that works to learn on and upgrade as I go. Example is getting the $25 chair which is very similar to the $100 Helinox. The only thing I invested in more is getting the Lone Rider tent just because I couldn't resist the temptation of having some headroom and the idea of keeping the bike inside if needed or having more space. Also a fan of all Kriega products and that's all I carry. Thanks for sharing!
@ducatinyc7 жыл бұрын
Yep, did the same thing with the chair. After a solid year of camping I'm actually looking for a single person ultra light tent. I realized that I don't need much room on the inside and I'd rather shrink my overall camping loadout - my 2 person tent is kinda huge and is something like 7lbs. Live and learn. I do like the idea of a big tent where you can keep the bike, will have one one day but right now my storage is limited as is - id imagine those tents are HUGE.
@joncfredrickson5 жыл бұрын
Alps makes a floor saver specifically for your tent.
@ducatinyc5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I'm realizing that now. The one i have is more of a tarp. Will be switching over to a 1 person tent, actually.

DoEs the outside of the bags become wet, I’ve heard they absorb water and take a day to dry

Which bag?? Kriega? Not at all. It does not absorb water and dries super quick. Been trusting them for 7 years.

If you go ship the bike to the country where your South American adventure begins. I have a friend in Quito and I thought that I would just drive down stopping at Puerto Vallarta, then down through Panama, etc. My friend said, Gringo driving through hundreds of miles of jungle is boring and very dangerous. Take American Airlines to Miami and then to whatever South American place you are going. He was right.

I can't recall that particular time, but I been all over NY/NJ. I prefer the Catskills or down by Whorton State Forest in NJ. Not too far, super scenic, always a creek or a river near by. :)

I am usually a stickler about seeing the items. This video was done so well and items explained I don't think it was necessary. i paused it several times to look at the item and price on amazon. All I can say is well done. It would have made the video longer showing all unpacked, which isn't needed. And seeing a ball of tent doesn't help. Keep up the terrific work. Thanks

cree is actually a good flashlight
@ducatinyc7 жыл бұрын
Oh nice! Good to know :)
@RealShipmate6 жыл бұрын
"CREE" is the manufacturer of the light emitting diode in that cheap, worthless flashlight. What they did was take the lowest quality LED from a reputable manufacturer and used the name to sell the product. CREE rarely makes flashlights (almost never). You're buying a cheap LED from a good company that was thrown in a low-quality crumby housing with deplorable electronics. Good actual flashlight manufacturers that purchase and use high-end CREE LEDs (like the XPs, XHPs, XM-Ls, etc.) are worlds better than this Chinese crap (not hating on the Chinese. They make a lot of high-quality stuff). It costs a little bit more money but the reliability and performance are well worth it. I recommend Fenix, Nitecore, and Acebeam. Lights like the Nitecore MH27 and HC65, Fenix PD35 and TK35 18', and Acebeam L16 are high-quality reliable lights for camping. Brands like Streamlight and Surefire are even better options. However, they do cost more. The benefits are high quality, American-made, long-lasting lights designed for compromising environments such as theaters of war and public safety. These lights use special high output and rechargeable batteries like the 18650, 16340, and the CR123a cells. The average price for these lights is 50 USD to 130 USD. For a light that will last you decades to come in torrential rain, arid deserts, acrid swamps, and artic and high elevation regions, the price is well worth it. I am a peace officer that works for a large county in southern California. Take it to heart when I tell that you never wanna go cheap when it comes to safety and your life. Cheap gear usually kills. You wanna buy it once in a 25-year career, not every year in a 25-year career. Buying 10 dollar flashlights can add up. In the long run, it's better and cheaper to spend that 110 dollars on a rechargeable sturdy light rather than picking up cheap non-rechargeable lights everytime it breaks. +Longer run-times +Higher outputs (500-2000 lm) +better construction.

I would recommend checking out the Anker LC90 and the smaller LC40 on Amazon. i have two LC90's I use for work and home. They can be charged from your aux battery with a micro usb cable. Their P2 is rechargable also. Have not looked at it. I just noticed they have 2 flashlights labled LC40 listed. Looks like the cheaper and smaller one does have built in charging capabilies. At this thim the ones I am refearing to cost 25 and 20 dollars.
