My mother (died 2012) said I was the VCR at 4 yrs old. She was a nurse and had to work. So she would have me watch them and tell her everything that happened (early 70s)that day. Boy, I can tell you about a movie or a situation like you were there😁 I miss my mom🥺🤱🏿

Phillip and Tara had a wonderful chemistry and set the standard for star-crossed high school sweethearts like Greg and Jenny, and Jesse and Angie. I would love to see more episodes of AMC from this period.

@EricMontreal227 жыл бұрын
These episodes I posted actually were discovered by her son 5-10 years back when helping clean out a storage closet for his mom--no one remembered she had some original kinescopes still around and she posted them on her (very short lived) website--luckily I managed to save the files.

Agnes Nixon said in an interview that ABC didn't want to save all the episodes of One Life to Live and All My Children because videotape was so expensive and they could reuse it by recording over earlier episodes. It wasn't until AMC expanded to an hour in April 1978 that ABC agreed to start saving the videotapes. There were a few kinescopes from early 1970, and this is one of them. Supposedly ABC stopped making kinescopes around September 1970. I guess Dan Curtis had more clout with ABC because all but one of the episodes of Dark Shadows were saved. Perhaps his company, Dan Curtis Productions, absorbed the cost of the tapes.

@@rhsharp Thank goodness Curtis kept almost every episode. I am watching it again for the 4th time. I do wish all the other soaps kept their episodes too, but those shows were mostly erased.

AMC went to an hour in April of 1977, but I think they started saving shows in 1976, with the experimental hour-long episode that Nixon agreed to do. So about half of 76 as well as all of 1977 AMC should be available, if Abc would ever care to start streaming the old episodes......

It was great to meet Karen Lynn Gorney in person at an autograph convention in the late '90s. As kids, on snow days, my sisters and I got to watch her and Richard Hatch on AMC. Thanks for this wonderful clip!

I read way back in the day that when the Tara/Phillip romance super couple ended is when the writers brought the Cliff/Nina story. Ironically, I started watching AMC in June 1979 when Cliff/Nina storyline began.

Yeah, Agnes Nixon always mentioned how indebted she was to Dickens' serials, but that really showed in All My Children. She would always try to have on the cast some young lovers to root for (who tended to be pretty innocent with their love thwarted by circumstance or outside interference), villains, over the top comic characters who often *verged* on being villainous but were loveable (and often had crazy names--Billy Clyde Tuggle, etc) and to throw in social issues. She did seem to constantly try--with varying degrees of success, to have a roating cast of the young lovers.

@Tom Lowery Yes. It happens. Yet practice makes perfect. Remember Gretchen Heilberg on Degrassi Jr. High, she wasn't very good as Mrs. Jeremiah but her acting improved many years later.

Yes, and Nick Davies was his Father. Isn't it amazing how The Corduroy Jacket was part of Fashion. It was featured in The Talented Mr. Ripley or The Paper Chase.

Diff actors from what I remember. I think I came in, Phil was MIA or escaped from POW camp in Vietnam. Tara waiting at home thinking he's dead or something.
@EricMontreal223 жыл бұрын
Yep when Phil was found--rescued by a Vietnam boy, he was played by Nicholas Benedict who played the role the longest. Gorney was still Tara when he was found but only for a year, then Stephanie Braxton played her for two years, than Gorney returned for a year and went off to make Sat Night Fever, then Nancy Frangione played her...

I often think about what it would have been like if Karen had stayed on AMC after Saturday Night Fever alongside Susan Lucci It probably would have been one of the greatest rivalries in the history of daytime
@EricMontreal223 жыл бұрын
Interesting that the other female lead, Donna Pescow (sp?) would come to AMC in 1983 playing the first openly gay or lesbian character on daytime, Dr. Lynn Carson. Karen returned to AMC around 1996 ish when her daughter Kelsey Jefferson came to the show to stay with Joe and Ruth (and her son Charlie Brent was on the show, as well). Apparently she campaigned hard to be kept as a regular character but sadly by all reports she was at an unstable time in her life and it was seen as impossible to put her on contract.
