It can show computer games from the time (the 80s and 90s) that had versions for the master system, which had some games such as miracle warriors, fire and ice, some PC RPGs from the 80s, etc.

strange how some nes games even the original game boy were more similar to the competitor's versions

For a hardware from 1983, some these NES versions are very impressive. 😮
@RetroComparisons2 ай бұрын
It really is. When you see some of the stuff that they were able to do with it by the early 90s and then realize that the console came out a year after the Colecovision is pretty wild.

It cheats tho. Most NES cartridges are modified to allow bigger data (but yeah, the games are great).

The Genesis and NES are two very important systems to me and two of my favorite consoles of all time. The Genesis is my favorite console of all time, so it's going to get a slight nod here from me. However, I love the NES as well. There are some in this list where I do prefer the NES version (Double Dragon 1 and 2, Batman Return of the Joker, Batman Returns, Marble Madness, Megaman 1-3), but the Genesis wins out on graphics and sound pretty well everywhere. But, overall, if the Genesis is a 100 for me, then the NES is still a like 95. They are both amazing systems with great libraries. Great job, Bill.
@RetroComparisons2 ай бұрын
I agree with you 100%, down to the Genesis being my favorite console of all time. The games you mentioned are probably the first that come to mind for me too when it comes to the NES versions being superior, especially Batman Returns and Double Dragon 2 which are both horrendous games. I'd probably go with the SMS/NES versions of Bram Stoker's Dracula over the Genesis/Sega CD/SNES versions as well. When I saw that the NES had an unreleased prototype of Hard Drivin' I just about lost my mind realizing I had to play that game AGAIN! Anywho, thanks for checking this out my friend:)
@shotgunl2 ай бұрын
@@RetroComparisons Yeah, that's true on Dracula too. Hard Drivin' was a surprise that they even attempted anything on the NES. It's a bit of a case of 'Can it be done' versus 'Should it be done'. I know ports of it to the home at the time were expected given it was a big Atari release, but I think it's advantage in the arcades versus 3D home (mostly computer) games of the time was that it ran smoothly, which basically all of the home versions did not do until you got to the later PSX and Saturn ports...and, well, it wasn't impressive versus those. Then there's Klax, and you had to be subjected to it again as well. ouch.
@RetroComparisons2 ай бұрын
@@shotgunl Exactly. That was one where it should not be done proved to be the case since it wasn't released but it's weird they even tried since even the SNES couldn't handle it. Lol well at least this time I didn't have to record any more versions of Klax but the fact I had to spend any more time editing that game is still too much.

Hey, The Flintstones, Dragon's Lair, Double Dragon III and Ninja Gaiden are missing.
@RetroComparisons2 ай бұрын
I figured I'd leave Ninja Gaiden off since it's an unreleased game and is based on the arcade rather than NES game and was many years apart, same with Dragon's Lair. The NES had The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino & Hoppy as well as The Flintstones: The Surprise at Dinosaur Peak whereas the Genesis game was just "The Flintstones". Double Dragon III has two completely different games (Double Dragon III: The Sacred Stones on the NES and Double Dragon III: The Rosetta Stone for the Genesis).

Nice. The Batman games are close among some others. My friend had it on the genesis that first game i remember was faster than I excepted on the nes when I played it. The second game i cant recall if I played for nes but I loved the snes version i remember. Batman returns. The megaman games were very close too. I like how some games are a bit different where others are nearly identical.
@RetroComparisons2 ай бұрын
Those Batman games are great examples of the 8 bit versions arguably being better than the 16 bit versions, especially Batman Returns. Same with Mega Man. The Genesis games look nice but have a lot of slowdown that wasn't present on the NES.
@MKF302 ай бұрын
@@RetroComparisons Yeah the NES speed I forgot on certain games was impressive, in some cases almost felt faster than some SNES games lol. Good points, I wasn't too big into Mega Man played a few of them, I was more of a Mario, DKC and Sonic guy lol. I have a friend who's a big MM fan though. Oh for sure Batman games were fun in general, very fluid.

If sega re-released the Genesis & every game got audio enhancements/ adjustments to not be terrible, I think they would sell really well even in 2024 honestly. I k ow I'd buy and support that, the console had great games but the audio totally ruins it
@RetroComparisons2 ай бұрын
I've got a soft spot for the Genesis audio since the console was such a big part of my childhood but I can't disagree with you that objectively it was terrible on a majority of games. There's some musical bangers with stuff like the Streets Of Rage soundtrack but that wasn't the norm to have something that awesome.

5 years used to be a much bigger number. Just 5 years after Donkey Kong came home on the bleeding edge Famicom, Sega used the exact same playbook to launch their own home arcade spec. And look at the confidence; the way some of those games use every color in their palette, needed or not, you'd think the Megadrive was a 32x. And FM synth was still a high end luxury to be proud of. And that was just the beginning of what was suddenly possible. The Famicom was reduced to a slow, flickering mess just to keep up with the new competition. Shame Donkey Kong's return on SNES, just 5 years after the American launch of the Genesis, completely changed the way we remembered this console war... The Genesis really deserves to be remembered as the beast it was, before '94.
@RetroComparisons2 ай бұрын
I don't know why I always think that the next gen of consoles is going to be some huge leap these days and I fool myself every time. Sure the PS4 has a lot of improvements over the PS3 and the same with the PS5 over the PS4, but this is such a jump that it's almost unfathomable by today's standards. To think that the Famicom was porting a lot of the same games that were on the Colecovision and 5 years later we got a console that was capable of stuff like Comix Zone is insane.
