My sales guy admitted he didn't know everything about the Sportage but he did say he was pretty sure the Auto Hold button was just an extra way to set the parking brake without having to push a button to turn off the parking brake. Thanks for the info. I have a question about auto hold, when I activate it and stop in the traffic, the start-stop function also activates. I've read that in the long run this feature (start-stop) shortens the lifespan of the engine, especially if you use it a lot in a traffic heavy city - which I do. Is this true? Do you recommend using it or should I turn it off? Also does it help reducing fuel consumption or is it a myth?

The idle stop and go will activate while using Auto Hold because it's also using Leading Vehicle Departure Alert to see if the car ahead of you starts moving to get you moving too while the brake pedal is already technically depressed by you. It's part of the official fuel-efficiency numbers, so it is recommended to use it. I imagine you will see a difference in fuel-economy if you choose not to use it. I use it on both my vehicles and have gotten used to it, even though I'm not a big fan. I don't really have an answer for if it hurts your engine or not, I would just recommend staying on top of oil changes and recommended engine maintenance. Thanks for watching! - Andrew

Thanks for all these great '23 Sportage reviews! Question: with smart cruise control in the sportage, is there a way to set a further distance behind the lead car when already stopped? When my car brakes behind a stopped lead car (in stop and go traffic), it seems to be braking closer than I would like. Thanks!

You can still hit the button to change the distance which should include when you stop, but I haven't seen anything specifically for stopping distance, just follow distance. Thanks for watching! - Andrew

Thanks for the reply-- My sportage performs great with smart cruise, I just notice when the car slows to a complete stop behind the lead car, even if I have the furthest setting, it still comes to a complete stop very close to the lead car. Looking for a way to increase the distance at a stop from the lead car. If u know any way to do this, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks again and looking forward to your reply!

Is it normal that when autohold is on, and you get to a stop the engine seems like it turns off? And when i release the break pedal it makes a sound like "turning on" again ?

Not that I have seen. A parking brake is not needed every single time you turn off the car. We have experienced when on an incline that the electronic parking brake does apply itself, that is very handy! Thanks for watching! - Andrew

Hi Andrew, I have the 2023 Kia Sportage LX. How do i activate the auto parking brake so that when i turn my car off the park brake comes on? I dont know it deactivated it and now I have to manually pull the brake on everytime i leave my car. The reason why i like the auto park brake on when i leave my car is because im not used to not having an actual handbrake lever. Thank you :)

@@CardinalKia you were right! I went to a restaurant last night that has a level parking lot and when I hit the P the car went into park but the parking brake light didn’t illuminate. My driveway is on a slant which the car recognizes and activates the parking break.
