Don't try to analyse perfection, just accept that's what it is - perfection! Dimash is in a class of his own, as we know, and you will drive yourselves nuts trying to analyse what he is able to do! He also has top musicians/technicians working with him. Have you not seen his live shows? He doesn't need to do 5 takes as he knows exactly what he can do vocally. He has studied music for 20+ years and knows exactly what he's doing. As I said perfection. Love your reactions 👏👏

I’m not agree with your comments about if Dimash is using technical support in his voice , He is so perfect when sing live that confused everyone, just admitte the perfección in his voice , just enjoy his performance, he doesn’t need any help he is the best singer with the perfect voice in the world 🌎

I believe the mic cost £10,750 and Dimash is well known as a one take artist, but this was recorded when it was livestreamed as he was working on a TV show at the time in China. To sing in Japanese you need to soften the consonants a lot, they are not pronounced like we do in the west, its just a very soft language which he is singing pretty perfectly and he isn't as close to the mic as he looks. If you watch his MV for Qairan Elim he pushes air a lot in that one too although being an MV he used a recording but that recording of his vocals were also done in one take if you know his reputation as a one take artist. Dimash has much, much more muscle memory because he never stops singing. Even walking through airports he constantly sings to himself. Musicians and people he works with always comment on his constant singing and humming to himself. He is an enigma but also a phenomenon so he really can't be compared to anyone. Someone once said of him that he is the best singer that there has ever been and I agree with him 💘

He's not cutting the notes off at the end of a word or phrase, , he's letting the sound literally drop and NOPE, this was live - you're also forgetting that Dimash's performances live are perfection- that''s how good he is - singing is a full body sport and when signing, you can actually see Dimash pull in his abdomen and straighten, and literally open his chest wide and his stance will often allow him to push from his feet up through his body, the sound that has the deepest resonance- his vocal chords are also longer than average - probably from the years of training - There were 2 cameras filming this - his pronunciation is so perfect to that of a Japanese speaker that the man who wrote the original composition said, he has never heard it sung with such emotion and perfection or subtlty of pronunciation. This was broadcast LIVE to Tokoyo

you have to know that everything is not technics . Schools in this countries are very strict in their teaching. And he started when he was 5 yers old and later attended high school. Then he finished a Broadway musikal masterclass 2009. 2014 he graduated in classical music department at the university. And began his studies in contemporary jazz and pop .at the national university of art . There he graduated in june 2018 with major in vocal. Dimash graduated with a master´s degree in composition from the same university in june 2020. In september 2020 Dimash was accepted for doctoral studies in the subject of musicology. So he has not been lazy during the time he has been home due to covid 19. THEN he practise 3 hours every day . So the things he does with his voice that seems impossible to you is a BIG training of it . I have heard him live on a small stage ,where there are no opportunities for advanced technology. I stood 10 meters away from him ....He is a true force of nature and endless training. Iám sorry for this long post. But you should know I love your reactions ...greetings from Sweden

He practices 3 hours a day, when he can. God gave Dimash s few things that the rest of us don’t have. Dimash is still training under a vocal coach. He likes the fact that Pavarotti still had a vocal coach at 70 years old. He will always be under the training of a teacher. He also swims a lot to help his breath control. 😊

You know, you are now doing what you have done hundreds of times before: you are trying to understand the Dimash phenomenon from a technical point of view. Yes - he is fluent in vocal techniques, yes - he has high-class equipment, yes - great professionals work with him. Only all this so that he sings as he wants and can: in a whisper, at the frequency of dolphins or in a full voice, and at the same time the equipment does not knock out, hangers with things do not fall (as it was in the room of Andrea Bocelli, who accompanied him), headphones did not refuse. Better look at his face: he is focused, closes his eyes and ... leaves. He sings with his whole body and returns only when the music ends. Now he does it almost imperceptibly, but I remember the old footage of Dimash's fans from his concert, when he performed "Olimpico", and upon his "return" from the song, his gaze expressed obvious bewilderment, as if he did not immediately understand where he was. So don't look for technical tricks. Just accept - Dimash is another level of musical performance.

That's the thing. That's why it is so hard to turn away from Dimash. All other singers fit into categories like Celine Dion sings ballads, Blake Shelton - Country, Snoop Dogg - Rap etc..before Dimash, you would find a singer/songs, based on the TYPE of music you like. He is different because he crosses into every genre, fast, slow, high energy etc. and there is not one entertainer or person that will know what is coming next.

Thank you. I love your bantering back and forth. All guessing, assumptions and opinions aside. Dimash is a unique, one-of-a-kind vocalist with extraordinary performance skills. Dimash accomplished 2 things from his "want list" for this performance. 1.He paid special tribute to the original singer and lyricist. 2. Dimash dedicated this beautiful Song performance to all his Dears/Fans around the world, and with special emphasis for his Japanese fans. The bottom line; is that a beautiful song was performed by a vocalist with a beautiful voice, in perfect (without speaking the language) Japanese. It is awesome, it is perfection.

I also heard from a well known person in Kazakhstan that Dimash was recommended to be in the World Book of Guinness. “There are many great singers out there but no one can sing like Dimash” he stated. @***t ***s Not many know??!! LOL!! Even Dimash doesn't know that he completed a doctorate in music... he was admitted to a PhD program in late 2020... for a full-time residential day scholar, it takes 3-4 years to complete a PhD program in any discipline... given that Dimash has a lot of extracurricular commitments (for lack of a better phrase) and also given the fact that the world is raging from a pandemic, his program is bound to take a lot more time than it normally would... Once again no one can complete a PhD in less than 3 years... and that has nothing to do with the ability or talent of the person ... the person who has been admitted into the PhD program might know more than his university guide/professor on his day of admission, on the topic he/she has chosen for their program; and regardless of all that, the backend administrative process still takes 3 years... that is the nature of the beast called a PhD program... at the end of the period you need to defend your thesis dissertation to a panel... and if they clear your thesis you are awarded a PhD... else you are asked to prepare and defend better... and a time is selected for the next dissertation... there is no passing or failing... It begins to get annoying when people (so-called fans) begin to spread lies in a ludicrous attempt to goldplate Dimash... he is golden as it is, and doesn't really need these sad plating attempts to shine... please refrain and for the love of God (or whatever you believe in), stop spreading silly tattletales about his PhD... he will get it in due time when he is ready...

@***t ***s I am pleased to be of assistance and am glad that you found my remark helpful; I will have to thank you for receiving it so well... no apologies needed... I fully endorse the first part of your observation, that all his achievements are a result of comprehensive education, several hours of training and rigorous hard work, that he has put in to hone his skill and improve his instrument... gift, talent, genetics and luck all have a place... but there is only so much that nature and nurture can do... he had to put in his blood, sweat and toil to accomplish the rest... to that potent mixture, add his unpretentious humility, magnetic charm, stage presence, and devoted fandom... and that makes him a recipe for the success he has accomplished thus far... So much more to come... and if his journey is so exciting to watch, from this end... just can't help wondering how exhilarated he must feel... from his driver's seat.

The 't' and 'd' are not like the letters in English. In Japanese it is pronounced as a soft syllable. So that's why you can't hear the harsh sounds being picked up.

I saw a Japanese reactor talking about Dimash's pronunciation. He said non-Japanese speakers "snap" their consonants, especially, t, k, d. However, Japanese say those consonants much softer, without connecting the tongue to the roof of the mouth as strongly as Westerners do. That reactor praised Dimash's pronunciation of Japanese consonants. Could that explain why he doesn't need a pop filter?

I was coming here to say exactly the same thing so you and I must have watched the same reactor. Hi Guys, I have watched a professional Japanese singer react to this video and he stated that the Japanese language does not pronounce harsh consonants like we do in English. He stated that Dimash had mastered this almost to perfection. The original writer of the song has stated that Dimash sang this is Japanese better than most Japanese singers. Dimash does not speak Japanese to my knowledge which makes this just as phenomenal as singing in Chinese which he is also not fluent in. He is just amazing. Loved Lucas’s reactionary as well. I really like your reaction to Dimash, but one thing I have to disagree with. It doesn't have to be that the video was recorded in multiple takes. It doesn't even have to be that cameramen were in the room. If it were the case, you would most likely see their shadow and also their reflection at the microphone. It would also be difficult not to capture the noises that their movements would cause. Precisely because the microphone is so highly sensitive. I think that there were several moving cameras set up in the room filming Dimash from several sides at the same time and that they were remotely controlled from outside the room. Also, I don't think you would hear noises from the outside in this studio. Look at the walls. The studio is perfectly soundproof. But thanks for your reaction. I really like the way you discuss Dimash's vocal abilities and everything else around the performance.

Re hearing his breath only sometimes- he does certain breaths to be picked up on purpose, & knows how to keep his breath away when he doesn’t want it picked up. See this in his live stage performances a lot. You’ll notice at the end of his humming, he makes a move that almost makes you think he’s going to sing something else. He’s actually taking a big breath in (hiding the fact that this whole performance is far more taxing than he lets show). He moves his mouth to side & sucks in deep breath but in the most subtle way possible.

If you listen to a Japanese reactor who analysed his Japanese pronouciation, explained the “weak” or very soft ending on those ending sounds as being exactly what is necessary to speak Japanese. Dimash had to practise and practise to pronounce the sounds right for Japanese. He explained those soft endings very well and that makes sense as to why he can sing it soft enough to be right for the microphone. I don’t think that make sense. Just go find the Japanese reactor, think he has a hat on, can’t remember, there were two Japanese I found, one said nothing much but the other one was very informative.

About the whisper at the end of each note that you're talking about, I first heard him doing it on Qairan Elim's MV. I'm not a professional singer, just an amateur, I always try to figure out how he's doing what extraordinary is doing. It's about the placement of the vocal cords, imagine it as crying silently when you want no one to listen to you or like mimicking a dog crying. It needs practice for the volume of the sound and the amount of air. About whether it's live or not, you've mentioned it again on your previous reactions, I believe he's singing live on a prerecorded track. I'm pretty sure it's one take, knowing him, I'm sure it is. In Japan and in China are very strict about that. You need to watch his concerts or songs from his concerts to stop doubting. Cheers.

This was a livestream for the Tokyo Jazz Festival - he has a 7 plus vocal range, trained classically since the age of 5 - about to soon become Professor Quidebergen! He frequently holds a note for 23 seconds in his live performances - you can check those out for yourself! One of Dimash's favorite microphones is blue and was given to him by his fans in China - he is in a competition in China at the moment and has used it in performance - I guess you haven't seen the camera's in his live performances - this is NOT a video - He's singing Japanese and the pronunciation is lesser than it would be in English - Dimash apparently performed the pronunciation perfectly to a Japanese speaker - the original singer has commented on this performance being perfection - Tamaki Koji is the original performer - 1989

I think it might be helpful in regards to at least some of your questions if you watched a native Japanese singer's analysis of this performance. In it, he gives an in-depth tutorial of singing in the Japanese language, which, as he explains it, basically doesn't pronounce consonants. Their consonants are produced without friction being generated by the tongue, which also eliminates the plosive sounds of d's, p's, k's, etc. It's very difficult, and unique to the Japanese language. In his opinion, Dimash practiced the Japanese pronunciation of these lyrics for months and achieved near-native diction. It may also help to view the 2020 Tokyo Jazz Festival video of "S.O.S" that Dimash produced in this same home studio. You can watch as the vocal track is being recorded, also without a pop filter/windscreen. Dimash has upgraded his microphone substantially since then (which, iirc, he said costs about 5K, or maybe it was 9K). One of the nicknames given to Dimash by his sound engineers in China is "The One-Take Man", though they always do 2 takes in China just in case. There are at least 2 takes in this performance of "Ikanaide"...it could be that Dimash wanted to eliminate the visible shadow of the cameraman moving around him, that we saw in the 2020 Tokyo Jazz Fest recording of "Samaltau". I'll put the links in the reply so this doesn't get blocked in your youtube spam filter.

Yo! Josh: Japanese is particularly difficult to speak by non indigenous, as the tongue rarely touches the upper palate. The reason there are no harsh K T N consonants sounds is that Dimash understands the Japanese tongue placement. This makes Dimash singing in Japanese all the more amazing as his native tongue has strong consonants and rolled R's etc. Great reaction Guys... thanks

Например: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nofZi2ytd9Gkp5Y.

That was the part that sort of convinced me it was recorded live in this studio (albeit perhaps not “live” live, and in multiple takes). Those notes would have been SO loud if he were close to the mic, so he pulled away (maybe just sliiightly too far). Regardless, none of that really matters. That’s why he’s put in the decades of education and training, so we can just relax and enjoy the final masterpiece. ❤️

Just wanted to point out that I just watched a Japanese reaction to this song and he commented on Dimash's pronunciation and he said it was surprisingly excellent. Japanese language does not have the 'snap' at the end of the words as you were wondering why you could not hear them. Dimash is actually singing like a Japanese with correct pronunciation of the language according to the Japanese person who was reacting to this song. The writer of the song mentioned that he had not heard a Japanese sing this song as well as Dimash. That is saying alot.

Regarding the hard consonants: a Japanese reactor mentioned that his softness with those is a function of how well Dimash understands and has learned the mechanics (tongue and jaw placement) of the Japanese language. It's something very difficult for native English speakers to do.

Remember that he is not English, but Khazak and that language, as Russian, is talked like spelled, just like Japanese. Being German I can read all languages that are as phonetic as German is. Japanese is easy to speak correctly, just like Russian, if you can read it. English is much more complicated talking for 'our' verbal expression. Chinese however is really difficult, so is Thai to us.

@@moonwitch1 Actually what that reactor said is that japanese is different from all languages as it's "weak" as he said it in pronunciation, and kazakh is a pretty strong language if you hear it with all those consonants it has, it's obvious from his kazakh songs, you can hear the strong emphasize on each letter. In contrast, japanese is different, and I say it as I am learning japanese and korean, although the grammar is similar is some ways pronunciation is very different.

It seems to me that you are saying (I understand basically English) that this presentation was most likely edited from 5 takes. Not knowing how studio recordings work, it seems to me that it was just a live take. For 3 reasons: 1. The producers would have corrected the part where it moves away from the microphone, and the voice is lost a bit. 2.- They would have corrected the part where obviously dimash had to look at the lyrics. 3.- If it had been several takes, his hairstyle would have changed in the breaks. But no, her hairstyle remains intact, especially the lock that falls beautifully to the left. That is what I see. In the same way, if it had been a studio recording with several takes and that is what is normally done, it would not detract from any merit. But making it explicit to you multiple times makes us lose the magic. I think that at this time you missed analyzing the beautiful figures that Di makes with her voice, body expression and other details such as the exquisite musical arrangement. I suppose because of your work in the record production they are prone to analyze it from a technical point of view, which is very interesting, but I think this time they put a lot of spin on the subject, and that part of the soul of the song was lost . I have seen almost all the reactions and analysis of him, I like them a lot, because they are informative and above all honest. But this time I was left with some disappointment. Sorry. I look forward to the next one. Greetings from Chile.

Dimash is gifted by God, so he is a miracle. Therefore, you will not know the answers to the questions, only assumptions. The miracle is a miracle and that's it!!!!

Sei Kamichika, a Japanese singer and KZbin reactor went into great detail about the language and sound ( how it’s different than other languages) and you might get some insight .

From deep chest to whisper in one single note with not a single break. So seamless it’s like unreal. As for the harsh consonant, it depends on the languages one sing. English, Russian and Kazakh songs have those. Japanese and Chinese use soft palate.

Such an interesting analysis and breakdown of this amazing performance by Dimash. It makes me appreciate the true complexities of making such an incredible video. My deep respect to you both. Thank you so much. Dimash is truly phenomenal.

Enjoyed listening to your prof. discussion guys, and waiting for more reaction videos, luckily there's a lot for you to explore. Check his "Ocean over the time" video, a theme song of Moonlight blade that won in nomination "The best original song of video game" in LA at "Hollywood Music in Media Awards" in 2017.

....I say just enjoy him :) I don't think anyone ( any singer )should compare themselves with DImash. His upbrining, talent ( rough diamond turning into 100 carat by training) , training ( how many are training those hours he has done ?) etc. are beyond most singers! There are so many insanely great singers ...and then now and then some totally unique and outer-worldly talent! :) I think Dimash is music incarnated into flesh ^^

I agree with what you are saying about this video style and it's still not an issue. No live audience gives them more options to explore.

It is, even for Dimash, too perfect, a high, high quality studio version. But Dimash have to sing it anyway and he does it masterfully.

There's a Russian news piece going into detail about this performance and there were at least two Japanese cameramen used for this recording possibly more. If you go to the full length Jazz Festival production the actual footage released focuses so sharply on his face that you can see every pore. For some reason the camera footage released separately for this track is from further away but it does definitely confirm that at least two cameramen were recording at the same time.

Once again, great reaction!! It's always interesting to get to learn how things work in a studio and it doesn't take away from the performance in my opinion. To see Dimash performing live is soooo unreal and it gives a dimension to his singing that is impossible to imagine unless you've actually been there. I know. So, even if some people get offended for some odd reason by the fact it's not "live", I think it's two different things. I find it great that his videos is edited and mixed, for best visual and audible quality. And then I go to his concerts and get blown away by his magic. :) So please, keep giving your professional opinions and let us get educated in the music world. You're doing a great job and I really like the blend of reaction and analysis.
