Best mold I've got so far. The brass inserts for hole drilling is literally everything. I kept making nice boards with janky holes before this. Thanks!
@TimberCreekFingerboards Жыл бұрын
How do you keep the mold in place when drilling? I'm almost thinking I'll have to put it in the vice sideways as I ruined both boards and I made 100 before this one with two $13 molds, so top and bottom moved as holding it

Can I use just an ordinary electric belt sander? And what is that router thing called? I'm trying to set everything up before the mold arrives.
@punkfingerboards62835 жыл бұрын
Regular belt sander would work fine. The router in the video is a cheap Ridgid laminate trim router mounted on a board with a 2x4 as a fence, using a bottom bearing flush trim bit. Crude yes...but works great for routing fingerboards. Search "how to use a router with a router table"..."diy router table"... Be safe!

Question can you use the shaper on a sander ?
@theRhinsRanger4 жыл бұрын
I would not recommend doing that as you might sand the shaper by mistake one time. The reason it can be used on a table router is because the router bit has a bearing around it stopping you from carving out the shaper by mistake

i have just recieved my 32mm mold. i am quite impressed compared to my other brand mold. the metal guides make it very professional too. the bottom of the template seems to be a fraction of a mm larger , i was wondering if that was for the router bit to not bite the plastic? or if the bearing sit higher will it have a chance to cut off the template?
@punkfingerboards62834 жыл бұрын
Hello. The fingerboard blank should be flush with the template after routing, if that's the case you're good to go. If the blank is hanging over either side or end(s) and you can feel a lip because it is slightly larger than the template, take a fine file or sanding block to the bottom of the template and remove that small ridge of plastic in the overhang area so the router bearing can cut more flush with the shape. This is super easy and will allow you to fine tune your template. We do this in the shop before shipping, but yours might need some finer tuning. You can email us direct at sales@punkfingerboards.com if you are still having trouble or have any additional questions.

@@punkfingerboards6283 ill defenitly buy the oldschool mold in a near futur. i bought na small dremel router table with a miniature 3/16 large bearring flush trim. the problem with a dremel table is that since the dremel is only screw to the table if you push hard the bit can move a bit from right to left. and if it is not 100 percent perpendicular to the table surface i am scared that the shapers gets chewed a bit. i might put a small layer of tape around the template to make a test first. or buy a better professional router table. keep up the good work and looking forward for other shapers shapes :D

just ordered this mould! cant wait to try it. if satisfied i will eventually order the oldschool kit too. why dont you recommend using a drill press? i have a dremel hooked on to a dremel workstation to drill straight holes
@punkfingerboards62834 жыл бұрын
Holding the mold and the drill at the same time allows for the drill to float with the guide and sort of find it's way, it's really fast and easy. If you use a drill press use slow rpm, and hold the mold loosely until the guide does it's job, don't force it in a clamped mold, or you could drill the brass out if you are off.

I am trying to choose which mold i want to buy the high kick or normal one and i was wondering what mold was used for the board shown off at the end of the video?
@punkfingerboards62834 жыл бұрын

sometimes when i open up my mold the top and bottom plys sometimes have blueish/black stains on the wood, some kind of reaction. i use gorilla wood glue. have you ever experienced something like that

I would try using less glue, and make sure to use the wax paper/foam. I have not tried Gorilla Glue.

Is that dremel bit compatible with any Milwaukee driller?
@punkfingerboards62833 жыл бұрын
Yeah for sure. It has a 1/4" cutter head and a 6.4mm shank. Should fit in all cordless drills.

@@punkfingerboards6283 so even without the pentagon shape that has to fit in my Milwaukee drill. It with fit?
@punkfingerboards62833 жыл бұрын
@@jellyboy1112 Yeah not a problem, the shank will work in Milwaukie drills just fine. Larger round shanked drill bits that require pressure while using can slip sometimes, but this job is easy, really don't have to apply much pressure at all, I have never had an issue.
@jellyboy11123 жыл бұрын
@@punkfingerboards6283 thank y oh for the fast reply! I’m going to buy that drill it today because I don’t like the performance on the 1/8 inch regular bit. It’s too hard to get a perfect countersink. It is easier with this drill bit?
@punkfingerboards62833 жыл бұрын
@@jellyboy1112 It will take a few holes to get it down but it works pretty good. If you don't press hard enough it has a tendency to bounce in the hole, or skip in the hole and leave an edge that looks a little rough. So pressing firmly is the key, but of course then you might go too far, so that's where the practice comes in, it's pretty easy and fast once you get the hang of it.

Hello, i have seen that there is 34 and 32mm moulds. Do the measurement correspond to width of the board when finished or its the width of the mould? for 32mm board do i need a 32mm mould or 34? or can i use a 34 mould for both 32 and 34 or the concaves will not be the same? thanks
@punkfingerboards62834 жыл бұрын
Hello. The 32mm and 34mm molds are the same, only difference is the size of the template. The difference in the concave between the 32mm, and 34 is negligible.

I put on my clear coat and all of that and I set up my board and it doesn’t want to board slide on a rail
@punkfingerboards62834 жыл бұрын
The clear coat is preventing you from doing a board slide? Did you let it dry? Clear coat should help a board slide, not hinder it. Are you using Deft lacquer?
