Ergonomics don’t work which is a surprise coming from Mercedes Benz. German cars where masters of driver engaging interiors when they where analog but now that they are shifting completely to digital, they lost their way. I would not enjoy driving this model because you have to constantly move your eyes away from the road to do anything with the controls. I still own a 2012 E550 cabriolet that I enjoy a lot and still hold on to it since no new model make me want to switch including this one. Thanks for the thorough and honest review.

I don't like all of the gloss. The version with the matte wood and such is much nicer, IMO. Still, too much piano black in the car (as Andrea and Zack mentioned). Unlike Andrea, I dislike the vents, particularly the small rectilinear ones on the dash. The dash is OK, I mean, it's a digital dash. Mercedes does have great graphics, however. The problem now with this big Mercedes is that electric cars go just as fast with less effort, vibration and noise. In fact, they have hardly any vibration. The EQS version is smoother according to those who have tested both of the S-class Mercedes. Yes, the EQS is very unattractive on the exterior, this car is much better looking. I'm also not a fan of the EQS's all glass/screen dash.

That interior doesn’t look S-Class enough in my opinion. If I was paying this kind of money I would want an interior with detailed materials and shapes, not just screens and slabs of glass/plastic. These days, real buttons and dials make a car feel more expensive. Think of the real metal switchgear in a Rolls Royce.

You guys are just to funny! Great review. I have an 01 e320 with 153k miles ( multiply by 1.6, I think, for kilometers) and I really love it. Very solid and very reliable. I think though, that Mercedes has gone over the top the last few years and have become to gadgety. Paper cuts in a Mercedes? How crude of them. The exterior is better looking than the last models. When do you expect to get one of the all electric models?

The EQS is an S-class. Just a different take on it. I would like to see Mercedes less gimmicky and blingy and more back into the functional, understated luxury it used to have. Audis still have a certain level of functional luxury vs. bling.

With a few “Designo Appointments” that interior could become Breathtaking. But between all of the various greys and all of those piano black accents ... I’d pass. Another thing. The bezel around the speedometer is inexcusable. If cheap TVs don't have a bezel they could have easily done that with the screen in this Mercedes. It might seem like nitpicking but in a car where the details matter this is on that list.

I'm in the wood business, for what it's worth. Poplar is one of the least expensive North American hardwoods and only ised for paint grade millwork due to its natural characteristics. This is bottom of the barrel hardwood, not luxe.
