They're all basically copies of the original military Jeep. A boxy shape, a flat hood, round headlights, and front fenders that are squared off all came the original Willys MB Jeep.

extremely smart move suzuki - just like your much earlier models..... light.... brilliant off road..... perfect for just a couple wanting cheap, fantastic off road ability..... This car needs to be judged completely differently to any other 4wd.... it delivers perfectly

Totally agree Tom , it’s absolutely stunning, I love its Oldskool rugged tough looks And It functions on and off road no problem , I actually hate the look of a majority of modern cars Nowadays and especially Fake SUV’s and Fake 4X4’s as they are all too curvy and round looking, I still want one so much 😎👍

Love: SUVs are too preposterous, made big and made rich. The Suzuki Jimny is a car I've always loved growing up because they're designed to being an honest, capable car that's the furthest from being pretentious. Panda 4x4 and 2CV too.

Really great Review of the new Jimny - loved the driving part, Thomas's driving, and his excellent commentary. "Thomas's G-Metre!" - his suitcase. Fun car. Shame the original Land Rover and Defender never got this sort of Jimny upgrading, and in-built 'Japanese reliability', but instead has just faded away, and has lost its way, soon to be forgotten... Good review! Again, I am homesick for the time that I owned a Suzuki: for the engine that revved willingly if not in a buzzing sort of way. I miss how it was a cinch to park in a Smart Car sized space - and my biceps and shoulders got a bonus of getting more muscular from the non-power steering. The fuel economy around town was great and the view out was SUV-like at a time when most people still drove cars, making me feel taller than most. One thing I didn’t miss was the wind-roar of the soft top flapping in the wind; and the bouncy ride that left my rear-back numb!

My friend had the 1978 model. 2 stroke 2 cylinder. 1000CC. He used to drive sales trips in it of 1200 miles return! It was unbelievable offroad and on huge sand hills. No wonder it is still popular! Thanks Thomas.

Great realistic and frank review. By the way, the automatic gearbox comes with an overdrive button in Japan. Here in Japan, the Jimny has a 658cc 3-cylinder turbocharged engine. The 1.5L version (like you tested) is called the Jimny Sierra and there's a one-year waiting list. The dealer told me that "Kinetic Yellow" (which was your test car) is the least popular colour.

It's very safe car! It has strong metal frame! And having frame makes small car much more prone to deformations during high speed accidents... while NCAP tests are being performed only at ~ 60 km/h speed...

It would be perfect as a city car if it was an EV. Then the bad aero efficiency wouldn’t be a problem and it would be super fun. I guess you would lose the authentic old style feeling that they were going for, but I think most people would be happy with that.

Very good detailed review on the Jimny , a lot of very positives and some negatives but It hasn’t put me off Wanting one so much , I absolutely love the shape of it , I like the way it has went Oldskool on looks etc, to me it’s the way a 4X4 should look, and it has a very functional tough Interior, I’m actually used to driving Land rover Defender’s so I understand about the steering etc etc , almost perfect allrounder and definitely a vehicle that’s built to last ,can’t say that about a majority of modern cars nowadays It can drive on and off road normally no problem, this jimny would actually suit me as I don’t do big miles ( approx 5K per year ) 😎👍

Real life review. Yes, Jimny is off-roader, but do not forget, that first you need to get to that off-road on regular roads ;) Conclusion - due to size and capabilities, new Jimny fits best city and off-road driving. If you spend much time on highways/freeways/motorway/autobahns... better have something else more fitted to the purpose -

My Mercedes R129 has the electric window switches in the centre of the vehicle. On the transmission tunnel. Love the Jimny in this colour. I also have an ex Military 110 Defender. So this is pure luxury. 👍🏻

Excellent as usual. However would loved to have seen the Jimny in its element, you would have taken a totally different perspective of the car. Never saw you off roading Thomas! The engine choice was made for durability and an easy fix when you are out in the middle of nowhere. The Toyota Land Cruiser adopts the same concept. If Suzuki wanted they could have used one of their Boosterjet engines which are both smooth and efficient but more complicated to fix in the field. Keep up the great reviews, you must love going to work!

Two thumbs up for your excellent presentation, Mr. Thomas. May I suggest that the installation of good quality sound proofing, vibration damping material under the mats, inside the doors, under the bonnet/hood will much improve the on-road driving experience.

Excellent review as always! About the car I don't really see how one should get this one instead of a dancia duster, its interiors are more modern and practical, more storage, more space etc. The only reasons to choose this one are if you're nostalgic, you have space problems and need a small car or you like the g wagon look but want a much more cheaper car.

Good test Thomas . Danke. U forget to show the box in the trunk that is water proof and that, u can take it out . Maybe the handling and noise is better with the original tire on it since u say u drive one with winter tires , right ? Take care .

I think it’s great that Suzuki are willing to sacrifice some refinement and performance in order to keep classic styling and a fun drive at minimal cost. A contrast to LandRover who are probably making a big mistake with their new sophisticated Defender.

Unfortunately the old design of the engine means CO2 values are high. Here in France they sting you for a very expensive CO2 tax penalty making the car a poor buy. Shame as it would make a good local run-around. I've seen them being used in the German Alps to get to mountain huts. This is where the narrow body and lightweight makes this car the best car for that purpose. Long runs on motorways is not what is what it does well.

Jeep has an opportunity to strip away the complication and cost of even the base wrangler by putting a modern non turbo 4 cylinder in there 2 door wrangler, roughly 170-200hp , eliminate the stop start system that requires many extra components.

In my case the car is perfect for me because I live in a mountain area whrere we have a lot of snow and ice and winter starts in the middle of november and ends at the end of march.
