I love this car. Fitted with a lift kit, slightly bigger tires, and a locking diff it turns into a surprisingly capable (and reliable) vehicle. And the size, well,... when I was younger, I used to travel through Africa and Asia with a motorcycle. Once you've done that, you'll find the comfort level and the load-carrying capacity of the Jimny not only sufficient, it's impressive😁

I have this Jimny’s Grandpapa here in India…the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy. It is a veritable mountain goat. It is still sold in NZ as the Suzuki Farm Worker for use exclusively on farms and is not to be driven on the road. However the farm worker is a short wheelbase whereas the Gypsy in India is a slightly longer wheelbase. Because the Gypsy in India has been for 35-36 years, the preferred light transport and quick deployment go anywhere vehicle for our Armed Forces and Police and Forest Services etc.

Ahh, fond memories of the old Jimny. I happily watched a totally bogged and fully farkled Nissan Safari slowly pulled out of the door handle deep bog by a whiskery fella who happened to pass by in his battered Suzuki. He put a pulley on a tree to get some angle and literally inched the beast out. The 4x4 club were well humbled that day. Excellent videos, thank you.

Thank you Andrew, We have owned Suzuki 4X4's since 1980 starting with the LJ80 up to the current Jimny all being manual never tried an Auto, & we have covered many hundreds of thousand km from the top end down the centre (When it was still dirt road) & East to West 13 times, & anywhere in between. They have always had a 40lt tank with an average range of 430km so twin jerry can's in side sponsons gave us around 860km A little mostly unknown fact is that when the Japanese decided to build these they based them off the Original WW2 Willy's Jeep, If you check they are very similar in size & mechanical set up drum brake's etc & originally up until the Sierra in their appearance. Anyway, thank you for once again another unbiased review, one more thing on Overlanding one of our longest stints camping/travelling was 22 days you just have to plan the trip very well, but I definitely don't have to tell you of all people that fact. LOL Kind Regards, Steve.

can any Jimney owner s tell me, without a garage do they ever leak from heavy rain? I live in the UK it rains a lot here. To me I have'nt rushed out to buy one even though this a favourite of mine. Thats because, to me UK isn't car country. its way so busy here, too many cars, too busy and compact , man made maze, no quite open roads between cities and the insurance racket here in the UK is a pain in the arse! so I use my feet walk, the bus , run and cycle . Maybe one day I will have the guts to do it. I read somewhere the saying: IS IT NECESSARY IS IT ESSENTIAL IS IT TRUE if not don't worry about it, keep life simple and happy Maybe one day.........

This review evoked fond memories of the original SJ-413! - We bought it (used) as my ex's first car, and though it was no RangeRover, it was a great little 4WD to drive around town, I'd say that wintertime showed it's _real_ force: you started it up, and by the time it was swept free of snow. the heater was running nice & warm inside the cabin (not forgetting the added enjoyment of readily towing free Mercedes and whatnot stuck in the snowdrifts!).- Finding this video of the 2019 Jimny (many car makes & models) later, makes me realize I'd gladly go for one! - Thanks for posting this, greetings from Norway!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 💓

I rented a previous gen Jimny on Iceland a couple of years ago. It was bloody fantastic! Well yes, it was loud when driving off road, the steering vague, and the old 1.3 was under powered, but man was it a fun drive. In about 10 days me and a friend drove around the whole country and taking it to several F-roads. It was always clear to me that its limits was at a far higher point than my own. Also the feeling of accomplishment when getting to a point at the F-road where all the other vehicles was Land Cruisers and HiLuxes on 38" + tires was fantastic. Oh how I love the Jimny. If only i could afford having two cars, I would love to own one.

I am not a real off-road enthusiast, I live in Milan and have never considered it worthwhile to own such a vehicle. But when I tried my sister's Jimny in Ibiza, I fell in love with it. Easy to drive off-road for a beginner like me, it is a very practical vehicle, essential but capable of doing much more than what you would expect. You hit the nail. Jimny is a perfect car for many couples, even in the city, given its size. It is only sa shame that the approval does not allow 2 rear seats. I now have a Smart car, perfect in the city for someone who doesn't want kids, but I think my next car will be the Jimny, because it conveys the desire to get off the roads and have fun. Great video!

I have seen many versions of the Suzuki in the past being used in game reserves in India, Police forces using them, utility companies etc etc. It has always been a proper off road vehicle, just smaller than the usual 70's or Defenders. Solid Axles, low range, nothing to fancy that will go wrong. Love the design, really nice looking vehicle. Suzuki seems to be understanding that there is a place for a good old fashion 4x4 in the modern world. I wonder if Land Rover are going to produce a modern Defender with similar values?

My second car ever and first 4wd was a Suzuki Sierra. Loved it. It lasted forever and it got me out into nature again. I’m in Australia and lived in Sydney at the time. Between school and work I went from camping every other weekend or at the beach to roaming city streets and nightclubs. I have fond memories of it. I have a Suzuki Grand Vitara 4wd (2017 model) now. I couldn’t wait the 18months for the jimny to be built and arrive as my old car was considered a repairable right off. I live in the country nowadays and go camping, 4wding and to the beach every weekend. It’s a great way for me to relax and destress, meet new people and leave my worries, anxiety, depression behind.

When the Jimmy was announced I was moments away from signing the dotted line... Holding out for a 6+ speed auto for now. The last shape Jimmy got a new engine and diff ratios 3 years after launch so I'm hoping new gearbox options come shortly. After owning the last shape Jimmy I would go with the auto. Due to the smaller tyres and short wheelbase, technical obstacles need to be taken slower, and the manual low range isn't quite low enough. Lots of stalling, clutch riding and clutch dumps.

9:15 heh, it's funny you say that, I understand your wisdom, however my own experience is to the contrary, in fact there is a joke at an offroad site I visit that there is a track called "Jimny hill". Because the only lightly modified vehicles able to make it up it are Jimnys and dirt bikes/ATVs. I think it's the combination of a very steep incline & a very lumpy surface, the Jimny just bounces and scrabbles up, the Discos and Defenders seem to bog and lose momentum. And yes, whilst your rear passenger space is limited, the load space is very square & useable.

The suzuki 4x4`s were always brilliant off roaders but a bit pants on road. Looks like they cracked it with this one. Fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. I had a feeling you would like it Andrew👍

Got the manual in June 19 and have been happy ever since. As I'm getting older now, getting beyond where the road deteriorates down to tracks has become an issue when carrying weight. The Jimny has solved that problem for me and is keeping me out there. The meat tray was an option I went for so the veni doesn't leak over the back seats. It has the same problem as the plastic seat backs but was easily solved with the use of an old sleeping mat. On a recent trip I managed an eight pointer (Red) and a decent sized spiker in the back( Had to cut up) along side pack and rifle and still had enough room to squeeze in the odd bit off extra equipment. I have never put the back seats up or sat in them but the front seats do the job. Over all for a single old fart who loves getting out there this is , once you adapt your thinking, ideal. I love it!

Well william its like this..american consumers over loaded, drove them beyond their design cababilitirs and limitations and crashed them,of course they did what they do best put in damage claims and suzuki were take to court..its true that they did loose and government restriction made suzuki withdraw certain models from usa after that.. 25years later as you point out usa consumers suffer because of their past antics... i suppose grey imports is the way to go for a new suzuki jimny or any jimny model after 1998.... part of me wants to say tough shit..but really on a more mature level...being diplomatic about it...they dont meet all your government regulations and leave it at that.

@@timexironman100m same story with ford explorer's, under inflated tires and overloading them caused people to flip them. i think the main reason they're not here is there's not a very big market, its main competitor would be the JL and since most people are still gonna go by Bigger= better the JL is just gonna sell better.

CR drove them like sedans and complained about the likelihood of a crash. The market responded by not buying them. The government had very little to do with its removal from our shores. That's how I remember it.

Jimny's aren't a car to test drive. You need to own one, and once you do you'll never sell it. My 88 Sierra has been converted to overland and has no issues for 2 people and remains comfortably below the 1340kg gvm. I have no intention of ever selling it. Cheap to buy, cheap to run, cheap to repair. What's not to like?

@@s.wvazim6517 My set up is false floor to the top of the wheel arches. Facing from the back looking in the left side houses a Travel Buddy and behind that a Century 165ah deep cycle battery. To the right side it's storage with a flip up lid. (no drawers). On top of the floor on the left Waeco 50lt fridge. It leaves enough room for 3 x 60lt storage tubs I got at Bunnings. No rooftop, I made a custom 3/4 roof rack and use a Kamp Rite double tent cot. I have a tarp which attaches to make an awning for longer stays.
