I had purchased a 72' sportsroof Sprint Edition back in 1983. 6 cylinder, 3 on the floor. It was fairly beat up when I bought it. I drove it for a year or so and sold it. Couple years later purchased another Sprint from a salvage yard. I didn't do anything with it. I wouldn't mind those two car's today.

Very well put together documentary. As a child, I distinctly remember someone owned a Mustang down the street from us that had a "California Special" badge on the rear quarter and it had quad taillights and a unique front end. Looking back on that, being in Detroit, I suppose people could pull strings and order hard to get models.

Excellent video. I was aware of some of these, but not others. When the GT/CS came out, a neighbor a couple blocks away bought one and parked it in his driveway. I saw it every morning when I pedaled my butt to school (Special Edition Stelber Charger with 3-speed hand grip shifter; try finding info on THAT). I loved that Mustang, and I swore I would buy a new one in a few years. Of course, it was one year only, and I was bummed. However, in August of 1973 a CS showed up in the local paper, being sold by the original owner who had purchased it from local Ford dealer Galpin, which was heavy into performance stuff those days. It was dead stock, C-code 289-2V, 4-speed with P/S, PDB, Sunex glass and deluxe full wheel covers. The seller, in his 20's, almost backed out because his girlfriend was crying her eyes out over the sale of that car. This was during the heyday of the Van Nus Blvd cruising/street racing culture, and I put an 8500 rpm 289 in it and lived the life. I have billions of stories. Anyway, it eventually got parked in the garage. Now, it is still with me, and restoration is underway. It will be a Day Two car with one of the six 427's I have. Never rust, never dinged, never in the Registry. I still have the blue plastic warranty card with the original guy's name on it. I wonder if he is still alive...

Thanks for the kind words and for sharing your story! Now if someone in the registry reads this they are going to be commenting I'm sure. Good luck with the restoration!

Let me add a Google Giggle I just remembered. There was a guy in the GT/CS web forum who Googled his VIN and got a hit saying it was "probably" a special edition Mustang. This was in the early 2000's. I did the same thing with mine and got the same return. I thought this was interesting as it was "just" the VIN, not a mention that it was a Mustang or any car for that matter. I just did that again now and got nothing, nada, zip. I own 61 cars at the moment, but that VIN is the only one I have permanently emblazoned in my cranium. Sadly, Google just doesn't have as strong a memory. :)@@TonysFordsandMustangs

Kevin Marti shows 4,118 GT/CS and HCS cars, but there were a couple dozen early cars that are not in his database. We (GT/CS Registry) estimate the total production to be around 4,150. Included in those numbers are 12 R-Code 428CJ cars.

@@TonysFordsandMustangs 99.9% of everyone I’ve asked never heard of the Cardinal edition. The only reason I know is because I have recently purchased a 1968 Cardinal edition from a family member. You could say it was a “barn find”, the car was sitting in a barn on flats in the mud. I nor the family member had any idea what it was, when first seeing the pictures of it I seen the Cardinal emblem behind the door and started investigating.

Hey Tony! Hope you are doing well! Im William and I’d like to ask you something. I have a 2015 Mustang GT 50 years edition, 6 speed manual transmission, with 43.800 miles. I’ve noticed power loss in 4th gear - when it's 55 mph. There’s nothing wrong with transmission or gears. Have you seen this kind of issue before? Cheers
@TonysFordsandMustangs7 ай бұрын
Hey William I'm sorry I really I have no idea. Normally something like that would throw a check engine light if it were related to a misfire or an ignition problem. To answer your question I have not had reports of the 15's losing power in 4th gear. I would think it's worth running by a mechanic. Normally anything engine related that could cause that type of issue would throw a light. That said lights can flash for a second and go out. That would be recorded in the cars computer. I would at minimum get a code reader on it and see if anything is recorded. Best of luck!
