So despite their age difference it's the soul on the inside that they love not each other's physical appearances. These are great scenes. I have to say, even though Rumple was wrong to lie, he was right about one thing. Belle says, "I thought you'd changed." And Rumple just looks at her and says, "What, in the hour you've known me?" And you can tell he regrets it instantly... but really. What did Belle expect, lol? She hasn't seen Rumple in 28 years. They knew each other for at least several months I think when she was his maid if I remember correctly, but it's still been a REALLY long time since then. Just because he's now willing to be open about the fact that he loves her doesn't mean he's suddenly going to be all Mr. Nice Guy. I suppose, at the very least, she must have realized this while on that long walk of hers.

I think what she really meant: He acknowledged that he has a problem and that he cared more for her than his own happiness. He would turn her away so she would not get hurt. That he would make that sacrifice PROVED that he was NOT a monster (in her eyes). That is why she chuckled and insisted on staying. That being said, even the old Belle initially was not going to return because "something evil has taken root in him". While he is not a monster, he does have an severe power addiction.

Ah thank you for pointing out Rumple's hair is shorter because I couldn't stop thinking what was 'off' with him. Rumple knows how to choose clothes for his woman, that dress is very 'practical'. They are amazing together. We knew he would go nuts when he found out about Regina keeping Belle locked up and lying to him. He wants to protect her, which is why he wants revenge on Regina. I'm glad Belle came back after her anger dissipated. They both love each other, and it's been far too long that they have been apart. She took a "long walk" but came back (like a real relationship works) to talk, and work out their conflict.

I’m *so incredibly jaded* by how much A&E and the writers essentially *destroyed* every element of *both* Rumple *and* Belle’s individual original characterizations and relationship together on this show. Yeah, they got a “happy ending” in 6B and S7, I’m glad, but I also feel hollow about it for them and everyone else because A&E and these writers were too lazy to write consistent, organic, healthy, and realistic characterization, development, and relationships, and never seemed to understand the idea that no one really gave a shit about the “happy ending” when the *journey along the way* for them from the end of 3B-S6 was full of bizarre, *contrived*, and ridiculous *character destroying* PLOT twists that *ruined* their credibility of *both* of their characters by butchering *both* of their consistent, original, beautiful, relatable, and emotionally complex characterizations from S1-3A into directions that were inexplicably, increasingly, one-dimensionally, and *very uncharacteristically* cartoonishly evil, conniving, exceedingly deceptive, exceedingly distrustful, exceedingly gullible, exceedingly selfish, melodramatically cruel, mutually toxic, exceedingly petty, ridiculously hypocritical and self-righteous, ridiculously lacking in self-awareness, ridiculously incapable of learning from bad past experiences, ridiculously incapable of making healthy compromises with each other, ridiculously over-paranoid, ridiculously reckless, and ridiculously *oblivious* to asking questions and searching for solutions that *should have been obvious.* Like, *this* was who Rumple and Belle truly were! They *never* grew hateful, violent, or petty. They always brought out the best in each other. They were so *pure!* Who the hell *were* those pod!people in 6A? I did not recognize them...Not that I was watching anymore anyway because I quit watching this shitshow of beautiful wasted potential after season five when it became clear that Hook/CS was the only thing A&E and these writers cared about anymore and that Rumbelle became their favorite toy to deliberately trash to make them look better from the end of 3B-6A. However, I read all of the angry and horrified spoilers on tumblr from the Rumbellers who were still watching this show in season sucks, I saw the gifs, and OMG! WTF did Adam and Eddy *do* to my otp and two favorite characters from this show? Fuck Adam and Eddy and the writers behind all of these characters on this show after Damon Lindlelof left! It’s like they were *purposely* writing Rumple and Belle in as wildly OOC and unbelievable of a mutually toxic relationship as possible to make Hook/CS look better after 5A, and I no longer could take sides or defend either one of them as they were being written in canon like that, which was *exactly* the reason why I *finally quit* watching this shitshow after S5. I *knew* that Adam and Eddy were going to have Rumple overreact to Belle with magic to try to protect her and this baby in all the wrong ways like an increasingly OOC, melodramatic cruel, borderline manipulative, controlling, restrictive, reckless, threatening, and stupid *jackass* to make Hook and Emma look better after 5A! I *knew* they were going to turn Belle into a wildly OOC, melodramatically and *needlessly* cruel, hypocritical, petty, *triggering,* and *stupid* PLOT device to push Rumple over the edge with this dumbfuckery Morfetus baby ‘twist’ that they pulled from their asses to deliberately and needlessly push all of Rumple’s buttons by starting out the season verbally lashing out at him, and hanging out with Hook on his ship to trash talk Rumple with him, while Hook *self-admittedly* let her stay with him on his ship to piss off the “crocodile” as an “added benefit. And this was even *before* Rumple started losing it in 6A. I can’t believe that the writers actually had Belle shoot down Rumple as “too weak to be good” for tearfully opening up to her about how afraid he was to fail their son when she *knew* he just lost Nealfire! I can’t believe she attempted to kidnap their unborn child with Zelena because Rumple locked the door of his shop! I can’t believe they had Belle hurt Rumple in ways that she *knew* would trigger his deepest insecurity that he was “a man no one could love, “ so the writers could misuse her to drive him insane and vilify him by making her his *trigger* button. She had every right to be angry that he was being shady with the EQ and that he wanted to use the shears on their son after he was born in 6x07, but she didn’t even *ask* him any questions, offer any emotional support and/or try to make any compromises that she wouldn’t take away their baby if he agreed to only use the shears as an *absolute last resort.* Yes,, it *would have* been attempted child abduction on Belle’s part in 6x08 because she got all her information from *Zelena* about his supposedly “evil” plans, *not Rumple himself,* and even criminal parents get supervised visitation rights from court in real life. I *can’t believe* they actually had Belle *immediately* believe that a God of Dreams claim that he was their son and that Rumple would “destroy the family” to the point where she was actually willing to indefinitely stay in an *eternal hellfire* of a sleeping curse where both Belle and their unborn child could and would have surely died to give him his “best chance” by keeping him away from Rumple because of what a *dream* told her with no hesitation for *no logical reason.* I *can’t believe* that A&E and these writers actually went there by fucking up the Rumfetus by making him the God of Dreams, having his TLK wake up Belle, and having him tear apart his parents, who were both inexplicably dumbed down enough by these hack writers to actually take this bizarre stuff about their *unborn* baby *seriously,* and proceeded to illogically, melodramatically, and uncharacteristically overreact and smash everything to pieces between the two of them over a fucking *shady dream* of their baby by lashing out at each other trying to blindly, dangerously, desperately, insanely, recklessly, selfishly, and *unilaterally* doing what they felt was best for *their* unborn child by refusing to healthily communicate with each other and make comprises, refusing ask to questions, and refusing to do research together by being *ridiculously oblivious* to the *blatantly obvious* facts that this bizarre shit with their unborn baby hating his dad, telling Belle that Rumple would destroy the family, and being the God of Dreams made *absolutely no fucking sense* I *can’t believe* that Rumple would actually overreact by trapping Belle with a wildly OOC borderline manipulative and snarky jackass attitude.I can’t believe A&E and these writers made it so that Rumple would actually threaten to physically harm his true love in a blind and *needlessly* reckless panic over losing their baby because he wanted to use magic scissors on him after she tried to kidnap their unborn baby with Zelena. I *can’t believe* Eddy Kitsis actually threw in *another* twist of hypersexualizing Rumple with another one of the Mills women when he and Belle were separated by having him make out with Regina/the split EQ twice and make a deal with her for a “happy ending” in exchange for her killing Zelena for him, which she didn’t. Yeah, it was obvious that Rumple was not serious about the EQ, and it was clear that he was just using her to protect Belle and Rumbaby and to kill Zelena. No, he didn’t sleep with the Evil Queen, thank god, and he probably wouldn’t have either way, even if she *had* killed Zelena for him first since Rumple does toy with words in deals to benefit himself and does occasionally break them. No, I’m not accusing him of cheating on Belle when they were both essentially legally separated/divorced in the world of Storybrooke where almost everyone had committed at least *one* serious crime or misdemeanor at one point or another that they would have been in jail/prison in real life, including Emma, Belle, and the Charmings. But Eddy was still toying with the *idea* of it potentially happening by giving Rumple and the EQ that smooch-us interrupt-us scene in 6x07, and by having Rumple make that deal with her to give her a “happy ending” in between kisses if she killed Zelena for him first at the end of 6x08. Yet, I *can* believe it because these were the show runners and writers who had been deliberately, cruelly, and unfairly fucking over Rumple and his loved ones from S2, even when he *wasn’t* fucking up and trying to do the right thing. These were the *same* show-runners and writers who let Regina, Zelena, and Hook easily get away with doing *just as bad if not far worse* with *no remorse* because the actors who played them were conventionally attractive. These were the same show-runners who *needlessly* killed off Nealfire to shoehorn in Captain Fuckboy as the main “romantic” lead for Emma. These were the same show-runners and writers who had *also completely destroyed* Emma Swan, Snow, David, Snowing, and Henry for bizarre and nonsensical magical PLOT twist fuckery that they pulled from their asses and Hook/CS propping. *Sighs* These are all the reasons why the OUAT *fandom* did the characters better than A&E and their team of hacks, and *exactly* all the reasons why I still pretend this show ended with 3x11.

On another note, looking back, canon OUAT!Belle always *did* have a tendency to use emotional blackmail on Rumple by holding their relationship status on a string above his head as a reward to get him to do whatever she wanted from day one. Rumple was far from innocent in his relationship issues with Belle. I know that. I never wanted for Belle to be a doormat who just enabled his problematic choices by just staying with him and agreeing with him, no matter what shitty thing he did. However, that scene right at the beginning of “Broken” is my problem with canon!Belle being romanticized for using emotional blackmail to try to force Rumple to be good and/or to do as she says by threatening to leave or lose her forever with that “Promise me, and we can be together” line. That’s where a lot of the hypocrisy and toxicity to Rumple comes from in the problems in the relationship on *her* side. She claims that she’s willing to understand Rumple and love him unconditionally, but as soon as he so much as *considers* doing something she doesn’t like, tries to tell her something that she doesn’t want to hear, or so much as hesitates to open up, she goes “I never want to see you again” and runs off in a hissy fit. I just feel like there could have and should have been a better way to have Belle be there for Rumple when he struggled with the darkness, and to help guide him towards the light in a way that didn’t feel so emotionally manipulative, fickle, and hypocritical on her part. They could have made Belle more patient by asking him questions about *why,* and/or offering advice to help him find a better alternative *before* telling him off and running away in a hissy fit because he so much as *considers* doing something dark, doing or saying something she didn’t like, and/or hesitating to open up, rather then going back-and-forth to him over and over again in a cycle.

Yeah purely for the sake of the wedding I pretend it ended with 3B I pretend the shit with elsa and Marian doesn't happen and that they ended it with 3B because it was really spotty and downhill from there and 3B does actually tie up everyone's arcs although time and a lot of Rumbelle fanfiction has made me more upset about bae's death than I was originally. they did EVERYONE dirty but especially my favorite couple and I was sick and tired of it. I dipped out around the same point as you. Screw A&E

@@Schoolgirl325 yeah She's far better in series 1-3 being a bit more understanding as time goes on (especially once he opens up about his son from Hamburger date on not counting lacey she's pretty good but I have noticed on rewatch that even then she did hedge a bit on the emotional blackmail bit. Which was an issue. I'm currently righting a slight AU fic for these two (same set up but diverges around her kidnapping) and that is one thing I am certainly going to be changing. She should balance him out and be there to Encourage him to do what right but he has to want to do it not just because it will stop her from running out on him. That's something I don't think A&E totally understood.
