I am similar to you I was taught to start a project and finish a project (And I'm sure this was to money restraints when I was young). So I would start projects and then they would never get finished because I had no desire to go back to them and was inspired by many other projects. Then came a time when I was older and living on my own and I would start a needlepoint project, a knitting project, a sewing project, a beading project or whatever inspired me at the moment... Having the attention span of a flea.... I would hop from project to project as my inspiration hit.... And All at once I would be finishing projects.... I'm grateful to my mom for teaching us that it's okay to sit in front of the TV but not to sit there and do nothing.... And I now always have to have some type of stitching project with me when I sit. Quilting is something I have finally narrowed into because I can do all the other hand stitching that I love and incorporate it whether it's cross stitch or embroidery etc as well as applique. The fun part about working like this is that when you're finished those 10 or 12 projects that you have been jumping back and forth from, you get to start a whole new line of new projects and you do finish them and you do have those success moments and the excitement of starting a new project. I have found that this is the way my heart and my brain works... And I'm grateful to my mom for encouraging me to learn lots of skills that I have the ability to do that. The quilting came later in life because I did not think I had the patience to start and finish a whole large project.... But when I found out I could do small projects and then go from there quilting was my go-to and still is my true passion. I love your soft speaking and the way that you are a patient teacher❤

I love hearing your pleasant calming voice, learning more about your inspirations, motivations, and product preferences. I was especially pleased to see your Dad’s completed sailboat quilt! I wish him the very best with his health and continued quilting. Your comment about not waiting until the situation is perfect to start working on a project was wise. It took me many years to figure out this. Continued success in your new lovely studio and classes.

So lovely to listen to you. Great Q & A session. I can so relate to your Granny, I too feel that I need to get a room organised before I can really settle in to doing crafts but you are right, life is too short and we should not wait for perfection before settling into doing the hobbies we want to do but it’s not easy, I don’t know why, maybe the way we’ve been brought up? Anyway I’ve now organised my sewing crafts into a corner of my garage and put ongoing jobs together in a box so they are easy to pull out and continue. I have cross stitch sets that I bought more than 30 years ago that I have still to start so I’m not going to buy anymore until they’re done (enough to last my lifetime!) but I do want to start doing EPP, which is something I’ve never tried and after watching your inspiring videos I feel I can give it a go. I have so much material that I can use that I’m sure I can make a start. Your projects are so pretty and you make it look easy to do. Thank you for being so inspiring. Love all your makes. ❤

Hey Emma , thanks for the Q and A . I've learnt a few things .wow your dad has done great , good for him . Hope he feels better soon . I have like 4-5 projects on the go at same time . Wat I do every month is I rotate my projects . That way I don't get tired of my projects . I just started a album hexie quilt . I covered many 2 inches with white fabric and with permanent marker I got my group to sign them . Now I'm covering other 2 in hexies and making a grandmother's garden quilt . Hopefully with them being 2inches it won't take that long to do . Thanks for your video , look forward to them coming out ❤

Aw, really enjoyed that, Emma! Your answers were so helpful for those who wanted advice. I'm glad to know you are enjoying the brightness and space of your new studio - that's great. And, guess what? I suspected that you were going to say the penguin quilt was your favourite so far, and for exactly the reason you gave - made with love for the little boy you love. Clouseau is my middle name, lol!😉. Seriously, though, I remember just being really touched when you talked about that quilt before. Very heart-warming💝. It was brilliant to see your dad's quilt - absolutely beautiful! May he soon be well and strong again and able to fulfil that other amazing idea he has🙏. Funny, just last night (or was it this morning? lol), I re-watched your Sashiko video which featured your mum and she joked about you both tending to have loads of projects on at once😂. What you said in tonight's video was lovely - that it's just a part of your make-up and you've learnt to accept it and enjoy it. I too love having different things to do depending on my mood or energy levels! Thanks for a great Q&A video, Emma. I look forward to all you have in store for us. If I think of anything in particular I'd like you to do a video on, I'll mention in a comment. Bye for now. Lots of love xo

Hello Emma , you will never believe it , but the top piece of my long on going quilt has been finished 9 months on . This is a hexagon top. I will be contacting. Long arm quilter to quilt it for me as far to big for a domestic sewing machine. The finished size ended up 7x7 ft. I wonder if you could please advise me on how at this stage I should prepare the sides ready for the quilter, it as you will know has hexagons that go up and down then the straight edge with just the point showing, but it will all need to be straight I am assuming. I haven’t found a quilter as yet, but want to get it as near as possible ready to go straight off , once I have found one local . I understand there are a couple nearby. Thank you for today . Very much enjoyed it as always Karen T,x I am the person that is one job done at a time sadly. The quilt top isn’t backed with Hexiform ,but with a wedding that is very much the same texture , in each hexagon. Just so it gives you an idea of the tops texture. Thanks Emma. Well done Emma dad , your quilt looks really good .

@@emmajonesvintagesewingbox could you please give me your email address thank you , or tell me where I find it . I appreciate your help . I know I am not quilting it but I want to be sure it’s right before I call the long arm quilters . Yes in many ways I will miss doing it. Will try some of your smaller pieces for a break I think before anything else as big hehe

Thank you Hilda. I don’t use anyone’s collection of embroidery patterns, I either design them myself or I use vintage ones that were passed down to me from my grandmother
