Apartments with bathtubs are becoming progressively less accessible to low income people in my area. Not being able to do a "bath ritual" doesn't make one less of a witch. The mountain grannies and backwoods witch ladies used baths for healing but they wouldn't have wasted precious water and herbs for a personal ritual.

Also baths were rarely full body baths. More often you’d sit or stand in a large bassin, with maybe 20cm of water in it. There were larger baths, but those were public, shared. And perhaps you wouldn’t have do rituals there. Another option however was natural water, ponds, rain pools, streams. But it’s less accessible and it takes more will I guess. (I love cold streams but not everyone does). But then again it might make the result more powerful, because you had to put a lot of energy in it.

I borrowed something from my childhood which is using a basin filled with the herbs I would’ve used for a full bath. You can get the same benefits and you’re using less resources so you’ll have many more cleanses for the future. It’s also perfect if you have a small shower. A win win!

You're right in that some people get obsessed with cinnamon, but as for the “keep the food in the kitchen,“ sentiment you also expressed in a short, I have to disagree. Here in the US, we have long running traditions of hoodoo practice and one of the many “tools” in that toolbox are sprinkling powders. There are traditional mixes, and mixes that a practitioner can create on their own, and while I’ve never heard of any specific thing about blowing cinnamon around, it fits in well with some of what folks do. Also, food items like honey, eggshells, crabshells, and cornmeal are used in other workings. Remember, not everyone who practices witchcraft is coming from an English perspective. @GilTheDragon11 күн бұрын
What I have found, in 30 years of witchcraft, is that that sentiment is bass awkward. That is to say, one can be incapable (either because of ethical or ritual abeyances, or temperament, or an outside imposition) of doing intentional violence; but one can still be quite capable of healing. It is, for example, quite easy to help rehydrate someone, or provide them quiet & rest; & it is relatively effortful to turn those towards harm. Not impossible but hard enough that the maxim ought be "if you can heal you can harm" which has a twofold benefit. For one it does away with the exhorting to do harm onto others (regardless of one's position on the ethics of violence, demanding violence be universally practiced is bad) & for second it reminds one that one's actions -no matter how well intentioned- can have unintended & even negative consequences.

The thing to remember about the rhyming Parts of Wiccan lore is that it was Made up by a Middle-class class Middle aged woman fueled by copious amounts of red wine. Namely, Doreen Valiente. It isn't Holy Writ (not that Holy Writ is either). She was probably just trying to trump the Golden Rule. Thinking of infusion, we went through a fad for home made spirit liqueurs. Most relevant were, lavender - which created a sort of inability to motivate - an extreme chill pill. Spice with a lot of *nutmeg* - hallucinogenic. Filter coffee and brandy - dubbed by the local ladies patched motorcycle club as 'rocket fuel' because it makes you very drunk and very awake at the same time. We stopped after the lavender because we were worried someone might end up catatonic.

I don't see why being middle class is relevant to someone's Witchery, and what is wrong about being a middle aged woman? They have experience and usually some wisdom. Decades ago when I actually did spells and not energy work, I would take a ritual bath after each spell as my spell wrap up/release. I used herbs wrapped in a cheesecloth and nothing else. Then I would rinse in a shower afterwards (which also rinsed the tub lol). If I did use ritual tea, I'd use the same herbs as I would be bathing in later and would drink it prior to the spellwork. But I agree...not a fan of drinking green lol. I've never heard of the cinnamon thing. But I HAVE used cinnamon around windows and floorboards (but that was as a natural deterrent for ants, not any kind of ritual thing lol). Also, I'm not a fan of "rules" lol. The rule of 3/7/10 is ridiculous. That's not how any of this works. And honestly, it is fairly toxic when you think about it. If you suddenly have a streak of bad luck, it leaves you wondering what you've done wrong, etc. I've even seen others blame "bad karma" (which don't get me started on how karma is completely misrepresented) and such for really nasty things happening to people and that's awful. It's not a universal law. The universe runs on balance. Chaos exists to prevent balance from growing stagnant. But good and bad are just matters of perspective...something bad happening to YOU might be something good happening to someone else. It's all a cycle. Trying to live and work in a place of balance is the key. Golden rules are great for morals and ethics but have nothing to do with universal laws. Really enjoying your perspective. As soon as I saw this title I KNEW it was going to be the rule of 3 - SO with you on this!! Wicca is a religion created by a person, and the rule of 3 is one of the tenets of that religion - it always frustrates me when Wiccans push it on others with different Pagan/magical practices! Also drinking a lovely merlot as I watch - cheers 🍷

As an old, self taught witch I can honestly say today I have learnt something and changed my mind. I still like to believe in karma and was always wary of putting something negative out there in the universe and having it come back at me. I’d always counsel the young to be mindful of what they say or do for that very reason. I didn’t want it to backfire. But listening to you, you’re so right, and you’ve put my mind at ease. Sometimes, you just have to hex. Thank you. 🙏🏼

I do enjoy your videos. I too am a Yorkshire tea witch! I work with lots of herbs, but unless there is a specifically a reason for a 'tea', ie medicinal, I'll go for a packaged herbal every time. I've been doing ritual showers for over 30 years. Much easier. The Rede... It's a lovely tool for people who don't understand cause and effect. One can hope they learn balance. You're right, most religions have some form of 'Golden Rule'. As for anyone who's got a sensible attitude we learn to balance our lives. Sometimes you need to know both sides of the equation, curse/heal or good/bad. The real lesson is learning from life's experiences. If you're suffering, why, and how can you fix it? If life is joyful, be happy, and spread it to others. A better rule for me has always been to be true to myself.

Be true to oneself. The finest rule, I think. And certainly the centre of my being and practice.

Thanks for the points on the Law of Three too. I've been told that sometimes the Law doesn't come into effect until the NEXT lifetime, which... you know. The flipside is also that doing good things does not always lead to a threefold return either. You should do good things because they are good things, but with the understanding that they may not be rewarded -- they might even get you taken advantage of if you don't watch it (or are just unlucky).

Teas and baths? Make a pot of strong herb tea, dont drink it, strain it into your bath, job done.
@TheMagnoliaWitch15 күн бұрын
"Who does that?" Me, honestly, though I'm personally of the opinion that herbal infusions don't count as tea unless there's actual leaves from the tea plant in it. 😂 On the other hand, the (heh) ritual of gathering the herbs together and slowly steeping them before adding honey and stirring to combine acts as much as a slowing down prelude to the relaxing boosted by then drinking the infusion. Those self care books don't go into that bit of it much, though, focusing more on the "potion" portion than the "use the brewing of this to kickstart making yourself slow down to relax".

As a non-brittish person I must say I very much enjoy walking out in nature to pick my own herbs and brew a tea on them, but I understand that it may not be everybody's ... *badum-dish* .. cup of tea! Ha-ha. 😅 I'm sorry, but I couldn't resist. 🙈 I'm totally with you on the three fold law-thing, and I just loved the pebbles in the lake-metafor. I believe it's just like you describe it, nothing is black and white, good or bad. It's just different perspectives depending on how you choose to see it.

Bath bomb bath solution... If you have taken a plain Epsom salt bath the sticky icky hair is worse. Crazy thing is, if you spritz your hair with vinegar, it becomes soft and kind of like hair conditioner. You can then wash your hair as usual. I learned that from using sensory deprivation tanks, full of salt water. They had a spray bottle with watered down ACV for hair care and it worked 🤷♀️🤯

I've never seen the sense in dumping various floaty bits into a bath. I do for a bath what you suggested for the shower, wrap herbs in cheese cloth, let it steep while the tub fills. Washing with handmade soaps made with the appropriate scents & herbs solves the issue of dumping oil in the bath. If you want a bubble bath, it's easy enough to turn some of that handmade bar into liquid soap. Add a bit of glycerin for added moisturizing.

Seeing you call this stuff out, and present a more practical approach to witchcraft, like this, is refreshing! Especially, appreciate your insight on spell casting, and the law of 3. I've, often, struggled with the 'right', 'wrong', and repercussions of choices, ... and the question of 'why' I've learned certain skills, only to avoid using them...and your thoughts on this are more than likely going to be helpful in that area. I've always called the wiccan rede the cosmic hall monitor model implying that there's some sort of cosmic Hall monitor who will check you for a pass to make sure you're not going to the bathroom out of turn. I generally try to treat people in the way that I would like to be treated but I have never seen anything that operates like a hard and fast rule ensuring that everyone gets back three times what they send out. If so some of the people holding public office around the world would be under the jail not in the halls of power. I tend to think that the way you treat others affects how they treat you. Even then, as I've said, I've seen nasty old people live to a riotous old age swindling everyone they know and dying happy.

I find that when we put out intent for certain aspects of life, like a certain lifestyle that will bring us contentment, and the universe starts to set that path up for us.... If we resist by holding tightly to something that no longer serves us (job, relationship, etc), the universe keeps upping the nudges to get us to move. If we continue to refuse, those become slaps. Once we move, even if it's painful and fearful in the beginning, looking back from the wisdom of the future, we see that the change was pivotal to allowing the universe to help us along the path we desired, resulting in us getting to a much better place. To be clear, this is NOT saying that "all bad things are good." This doesn't apply to deaths or illnesses, simply to us clinging to outdated parts of our life when making a change is required for us to progress. I'm so glad you and Mr Grumpy Old Crone were given the opportunity to build a life together that brings happiness to you both.

When I was in nursing school one of the classes instructors was a hateful lunatic (with tenure). She nearly destroyed all my hard work and goals I had for nearly 40 years. I just kept my head in a forward space, surrounded myself with supportive friends and family, and refrained from cursing that person. Within a few weeks bad and distressing things began happening to them. Their influence as an instructor weakened. Before long I returned, much to this person's dismay Long story short(to late), I succeeded in my schooling and had a very successful career and now happily retired . Would it have been the same had I cursed them? Probably. And that incident is merely an antidote and a learning experience in and of itself. I don't even remember that instructors name because they are now meaningless to me. Thank you Annie for putting everything into perspective.

Hello. Thank you for sharing your insight, much appreciated. The unfortunate aspect of believing in "you get what you give" in whatever form it is touted is that then when a person experiences hardship or injustice it can be dismissed as if they had done something to bring it on themselves, while conversely equating success and well being with being a worthy, deserving person. I hear this type of rhetoric in conservative religious, self congratulatory voices. I agree with you in that this really doesn't hold up to scrutiny, it's more like a blame and shame game disguised as morality.... Just a thought .... 🦉
@GrumpyOldCrone15 күн бұрын

Love your take on the three fold law there. I hadn't thought of it from the two sides of the same situation so who gets what karma angle before and that's just another reason why it's all BS. For me, it also screams "let go and let god", which defeats the purpose of being a witch in the first place. We take power into our own hands and can decide for ourselves how it needs using. Also, ritual showers, woo! I absolutely hate cleaning my tub (witch with chronic pain here) and while all the herbs and such bring the aesthetic feel and all, you are spot on with the awkward feeling of having to clean your friggin tub right after before proceeding on with the next thing. 😂

I always think that Christianity is about begging God to make changes in your life, whilst Paganism is about asking the Divine for the strength to make those changes yourself.

For ritual baths, I either make a tea from the herbs I'm using to pour over myself before soaking, or I use cheesecloth to wrap the herbs and toss that into the tub. It never makes a mess. As for curses, yes, I've done them. Only two led to very dramatic consequences, one in a similar circumstance to what you mentioned that resulted in a lost business, home, and arrest, the other in a child abuse case that led to arrest and loss of custody. I've never regretted that, and I don't feel like I suffered any sort of backlash or bad luck afterward. I helped people who needed it get justice they were otherwise denied. I can think of few better uses for magic.

I'm not familiar with the threefold law, but my gut tells me that cursing cheaters is just fine. I had been married to my ex for 12 years when I finally learned that he had been sleeping with random people the entire time. He was exceptionally good at hiding it from me. From that moment on, my trust was shattered, my world was ruined. I divorced him. My first reaction was to bury all that pain and attempt to start a new life elsewhere. But it was not sustainable. Not until years later, when I finally started vocalizing all of the wrath that I felt, and channelling it with intention, did I begin to feel better. It gave me a sense of control over my feelings, which up to that point were scattered and scary and difficult to comprehend. Channeling them started to give me back the peace that he had destroyed. Have bad things happened to him since? Yes, because he is a bad person. He deserves all of it and more. I hope it continues. My actions are definitely in accordance with my conscience. I have no choice but to be anchored to him. He stole 12 years of my life. I'll never get those years back, but cursing him brings a satisfaction that is difficult to explain. Is karma or cosmic justice real? I don't think it matters. If one steps out of line enough, things happen, inevitably. Funny that you mention Musk. I sense that his life isn't actually charmed at all. It seems quite empty. All of his personal relationships falter. His grown children can't stand him. And with all the (justified) bad will towards him these days, I wouldn't be surprised if he's the next United Healthcare CEO something something something. In this nouveau gilded age, I get the feeling that we are headed for some very interesting times ahead. When people have nothing left to lose, the pitchforks really come out. Just as an aside: Your former spouse wasn't "forced to hide devotion in secrecy." He could have been a grownup, and talked about it. He could have been open about his feelings, he could have gone to counseling with you, he could have left your relationship if it was irreconcilable. Instead, he kept you hanging on for years, like the liar he was. I'm surprised that you give him as much grace as you do. And "happily ever after" is never how things work. Once a cheater, always a cheater. That's generally how it goes. Appreciate the video though! It got me thinking about things...

My point was that my ex's view on the situation was wildly different to mine, and if he took a lie detector test whilst saying it, I'm positive he'd pass. I'm not gonna lie - I had a hard time back in 2017-2019, and if I believed in the Rule of Three, I would have thought that I'd done some utterly appalling somewhere and blocked it out. But I treated people honestly, even when maybe they didn't deserve it, and I know I am content with how I conducted myself, and at the end of the day, that's all you can do. As another commenter said, "To thine own self be true." Also: I'll never EVER judge another person grieving in the middle of the kind of situation you've gone through. Hex away, my friend, if the situation calls for it!
@tabularasa12 күн бұрын
@@GrumpyOldCrone lol thank you, I needed a little validation today, much appreciated 🙏 And I do understand about the ex, that his viewpoint was wildly different, but there still is an objective truth there, that his silence and secrecy and lying-by-omission was decidedly *_not_* an ethical or honorable path to take. Regardless of his viewpoint, his choice of *_action_* showed him to be cowardly and wrong. There are a lot of issues that come up in relationships that can be thorny and complicated, and placing blame or judging fairness can end up in a lot of grey area for everyone involved. But when it comes to deliberate lack of communication, especially when the intent is to hide one's true feelings or actions, I feel that this silence is objectively wrong, in all cases. I'm glad that you are content with things, and doing much better now. I enjoy your channel!

Rules and paradigms based on numbers and numerology are innately cultural &/or personal. Not all are in threes, or will happen as such. Luck is not quantifiable-it is as the Universe decides, and what happens is what's deemed fair. A wise witch once told me: "If you cannot sue or press charges, move on. Use your magic to bring what you want to see in the world; use it for good and not spite." That being said, a well-timed hex can just as much be a blessing for many as much as it is a curse for one.

I have to tell you that your no nonsense approach is refreshing. I don't believe in the rule three, but I see things this way. I practice for the connection to world it gives me, and moments of joy that I get when nice things happen to me and the world around me that I can affirm that I cause. And no nothing very big - lol. I've also had caused to do the same as you. Very very rarely, since I am mindful when I have done so of consequences to my life. My experience has been that your curse can be cast too wide in it's area of affect. Whether it be a neighborhood family or a full department at the workplace, for example. That's when the ripples hit many and act like a large rock in the pool. You see the ripples return stronger back to you. Overwhelming you like a miasma, or a shadow. In any case that's my thoughts. Bath bombs are nice, but I learned when starting out from writers who had to heat and prepare their own bathwater, so brewing an infusion as a pour-over or sponge bath, followed by fresh water and/or some kind of shower seemed the most obvious way to take a cleansing bath. They're also the easiest thing to clean up without breaking the mood before ritual, IMO. Happiness and contentment are excellent goals to maintain at home, and where you can, really. Enough health and enough wealth that you can take some time to pause and read something you enjoy with a favorite beverage is something i wish for us all.

The only and last ‘ritual bath’ I had was at my initiation back in ‘87 or so. I had been a solitary before that and after it ended in 2000 I returned to that for the most part. I don’t like baths and now I am semi-crippled by the broken leg/ankle which, altho healed, will never be like before. Therefore getting in and out of a bath is life threatening. Even showers are daunting. BTW, Malbec, known as ‘the black wine of the Quercy’ was drunk at the wedding of Henry II and Eleanore of Aquataine! Cheers!

I've found the trick to magic has been to read much and ignore most. You know the good stuff when you see it and they arent always in books of magic. Karma vs the threefold law is such for me. Evil begets evil, but don't confuse that cause and effect for justice. If you find yourself in a position to be karma's agent, consider that all karma wants is to bind us to its pattern of evil for evil. It is a net, not a set of scales.

Hello Annie! I found your channel a few days ago and I've been catching up with your videos. You are a breath of fresh air and I feel inspired to revitalise my practices. I've been in touch with my spirituality ever since childhood but only felt drawn to witchcraft 3 years ago through one of my best friends, who has been practising for quite some time. Neither of us is a "joiner". I've met a few self proclaimed priestesses and, frankly, have been unimpressed! I don't care for rules or hierarchy. So my friend and I celebrate and work together or individually. I have a lot to learn and, in you, I may have found a good teacher. Like you I'm drawn to Gaia, our Earth Mother. I could open up massively to you but I don't want to ramble on. So there are 2 things I want to say and then I'll bugger off! The first is to ask if you're an Aries? Few things in modern paganism are more misunderstood than the Wiccan Rede and Rule of Three. Briefly... tldr 1: Context matters. While the word "wicca" gets applied to all sorts of things, traditional Wiccan concepts are exclusively for and about... *Wiccan initiates*. Not solitaries, not eclectics, not any other type of witch or pagan. tldr 2: Neither the Rede or 3Fold is emphasized in traditional Wicca, they're not taught to be universal laws (gasp!). That attribution (or accusation) they are was made by everyone else. tldr 3: *The Threefold does not imply what people think it does.* It is not about the universe heaping rewards or punishment in X-amount on anyone (gasp!). In context, it pertains to the actions of the initiate. tldr 4: Subsequently, non-initiates either try to abide by or hate on what's really distorted info. And give the Rede & 3Fold far, FAR more attention than is found within the practice they come from.

The salt from the bath bomb will also make a metal tub start to rust.

Everything in this video are topics that I’ve discussed with my girlfriend for the past week. And weirdly, she worked for lush, and has already mentioned that when she moves in with me because I have an oversized tub we’re going to take a lush bath bomb bath. Also, I spend a considerable amount of time, keeping her from tasting things like candles and wax melts. I mean a little nibble isn’t bad I guess.

I'm a nibbler. I feel so guilty. You are a good partner for stopping her!

Agree with you, thank you for putting voice to it re pretty much everything. PS. bathbombs with bits of herbage get put in a mesh bag, herbal baths get the same thing as an herbal shower with the teabag approach. I'm not a fan of cleaning the tub after a good soak so I generally stick with some epsom salts, and a few scented candles and a cuppa tea or cocoa or adult beverage to sip while I soak. If I use oils, I will grab the dawn dish soap spray the tub down, get dried off and then rinse the tub with some very hot water through the handheld shower head. The dish soap removes the oils no scrubbing necessary.

I have not tried washing up liquid/dish soap. I may have to do that....

like many others watching you, i connect to what you speak about at a deep level, perhaps as a woman of a similar age, drawn to nature and the conundrums of life, (20ish year relationship with 2 kids/friends who shape us). i think we are caught up in the beliefs of 'good' and 'bad', but they're equal forces of energy (+ and -), and i've learned, from the global plan, to appreciate 'evil', they're doing the work that makes us break free of the paradigm. and agree about avoiding sanderson on account of his immense popularity, altho his story-telling abilities are the stuff of many how-to-write-great-fiction vids (altho with some grammar issues? but those don't matter if the story is great!) as is your ability, Mistress Grumpy! love from canada, and appreciate the recommendation of york gold!!!

This is why I loathe the "Threefold Law." It is a moralizing construct that favors the privileged. If the system works for them, if they aren't deprived or wronged or oppressed, they have no need for malefice. If society favors them, if they don't suffer or struggle often, if their lives are easy and gilded, and if they feel the need to hold moral superiority to rationalize their preeminence, then they will denounce hexes and curses, because these have no use to them. But by signaling their virtue, they can paint themselves as noble, and that perception can be useful to those trying to increase acceptance of a new religious movement. But I am interested in knowledge, and power, and the power in knowing. And I know enough to know the world is not innately just, and that it is up to all of us to make it so.

If you *need* an over simplification of how things work: Do as You Will shall be the whole of the Law. Love is the Law. Love under Will.

I really loved your cosmic justice explanation. Never thought about situations like that, and I am really grateful for your insight! Very eye opening!
