The level design and (especially) music is more identical to SMRPG. I loved the star spirits...yet I owned a gamecube first when j was a little kid so I thought Mario party 5 was their game only until I got older and saw where they came from. Was nice to see Nintendo re use them as the new party hosts for 5. Would be cool to see something like that again, like the ttyd partners become the next hosts in a new mario party or the pixls heh

I wouldn't say that Toy Dream was necessarily based on Shy Guy's Toy Box. Also, Star Hill isn't technically based on Shooting Star Summit. Shooting Star Summit is intended to be the same Star Hill from Mario RPG, and thus Star Hill in Partners in Time is meant to be the same place as well.

t's a good thing all of these exist to prove that the series has always been the real Mario world and characters (alongside TOK reaffirming it by having 3D Bowser as a painting in the game (The same game that has all "Paper Peach's" from the series as the same character thus you can't take one and ignore the other, and Miyamoto confirming in an interview that it's always the same Mario in every Mario series/game. This AFTER PJ came out so it's not something they went back on, it's just what was always the case. Thereby proving that the characters in PJ are at most an alternate version of the characters based on their appearances in the Paper Mario series (Just like Metal Mario is an alternate version of the character based on his appearance in Super Mario 64). So now all of those people that foolishly believed that PJ had separated the two (despite the innumerable examples of evidence to the contrary) can see they were wrong and they should feel silly. Even if it was by their logic a "retcon" it has been unretconned so PJ at best is just an alternate character based on Mario in the Paper Mario series and not the character in those games.

My Headcanon: Paper Mario and Mario are the same and yet not the same. Normal Mario does go on the all paper Mario adventures but as Normal world form. The Paper Mario Book containing the Paper World in peach’s castle, is a book that someone used the Fold of Life on to create another universe just like the Normal Mario universe but it’s all made out of Paper. Paper Mario has the same history as Normal Mario but everything is Paper.
