All runways have been closed at Tokyo's Haneda airport, after a Japan Airlines plane caught fire. The Airbus A350 had collided with a Japanese coast guard aircraft, reportedly on its way to deliver aid to quake-hit areas in central Japan. NHK said five coast guard members have been confirmed dead. More than 70 fire engines were deployed to put out the blaze. All 396 passengers and crew on board flight JL516 survived. One traveller CNA spoke to said the situation at Haneda is calm, even as hundreds of passengers were left stranded due to the flight delays.

I think it's only possible because majority of the passengers are probably Japanese, they take evacuation instruction seriously. I had seen a flight evacuation video of a different airline where passengers were busy taking hand luggage out, luckily the plane was not so seriously damaged so everyone got out.

What about the incident? That was surely caused by human error. If they had done their jobs properly this tragedy would not have happened

If the people in tower control were actually doing their job this wouldn't have happened. You're deviating truth with nonsense. All plane personal knows what to do. You're praising them. What about the tower control people? Talk about those. Let's see how their training and professionalism speaks hahaha.

@@LG141602how would u know if it’s the air traffic controller. How’d u know it’s not one of the coast guard pilots on the Japan airlines pilots? Nobody knows yet how this incident occurred so it’s better you don’t spread false information and say it’s the ATC fault. Cause u have no clue. I don’t either

@@angelofmercy6139 You don't get his point. The first comment is highlighting Japanese efficiency in leaving a plane yet it was a Japanese man made error that caused the accident. All you people see is how Japanese people do things so much better yet there was an obvious human error that caused the accident

I wonder how fast the average American flight could evacuate these days, when there would be people of size, blocking the aisles. That should be a real concern for anyone flying.

passengers will be running over each other. One example that comes to my mind is the black Friday..... On that day people hit each other just to get a thing, Tv, a cell phone...etc. Imagine those people fighting for their lives..... I believe The casualties would be huge....not from the accident itself but from the pushing of people. Back to the Japanese passengers,...their mindset is already prepared for following orders...not to mention that they are so organized .

Pointing out that this was also a domestic configuration of the A350 where seat pitches are smaller to fit almost 400 passengers on a plane what would typically be 250 seats in other parts of the world. Miracles of Japanese orderliness and mindset in considering the benefit of the pack engrained since we're young really pays off.

Every flight plan includes an alternative airport with more than enough fuel to get there. Narita is only about 50 miles by air. Some flights may have landed at Toyama and Shizuoka if NRT got overcrowded with extra aircraft.

not sure it time to install any innovative "underfloor HD cameras" along runways for air controllers to allow them or AI systems to see/flag any risks at any locations and at any time since it is hard to have lamppoles on roadways.

runway incursion by Coast Guard plane, crew paid the ultimate price. ATC, is this your issue? Was there a language issue??i have a suspicion that the English requirements were not met by the CG crew.
@antoni-nv7nj
@antoni-nv7nj 6 ай бұрын
According to Wikipedia, the Coast Guard plane "was not equipped with an ADS-B transponder". In other words, it was basically rendered invisible to the Japan Airlines aircraft and vice versa. As for why the Coast Guard aircraft decided to taxi into the runway instead of holding short (as instructed by the ATC), I agree with your opinions on the language-related issues.
@christiancostantino7220
@christiancostantino7220 6 ай бұрын
@antoni-nv7njBut then it raises another issue. Surely the pilots of the 350 would be able to see the plane when coming in, initiating a go around? I think it would be their fault too, if that were the case, rendering all 3 parties at fault
