Also if you look closely at the Servitors, if they are being lead by a Techmarine they have the BS of a Space Marine wielding probably 2 heavy bolters. *IF* the points of 9th edition are anything to go by that's 2 Heavy bolters and 2 servo arms for 40 points of Servitors. That is of course if you are already spending the points for the Techmarine for other reasons...and that servitors will probably be wiped with their single wound and 4+ save. Edit: Though you can also hide those servitors behind a Tactical Squad being lead by a Techmarine so some extra firepower for them. I just wonder since the techmarine gets lone operative within 3 in of a vehicle, if his bodyguards get wiped during shooting, does that leave him untargetable during the same shooting attack? Also might leave him weak to precision.

I will say it right now, the index gave Pedro Kantor and Vulkan He'stan a HUGE glow up. The former turns a squad of Stern Guards veteran into an absolute terror for basically everything, do the double ability of "once for battle extra attack" and "once for battle, double shooting" and you can easily maw down anything that is not a Death Guard terminator, while also getting stronger as you get killed. He'stan basically push Oath of Moment to the wound roll and Melta units basically go "See that vehicle there? Yeah, i don't want to".

He'Stan can also just get into the centre field objective and lock it down with his second ability and a big infernus squad and make himself a nightmare to dislodge. A big flaming distraction carnifex the likes of which we would see in an older edition.

Liking the classic boxnaught best is most definitely not down to only nostalgia. A dreadnaught is basically a coffin in a setting so grimdark that they propped it up on legs and gave it guns. All the dreadnaughts that came after that have moved away from that wonderfully messed up asthetic to become increasingly robot-y looking.

Not sure if this came up later in the video yet, sorry if it did. The Servitors aren't just a bodyguard option for techmarines. They can also join other squads being led by a techmarine, so you can hide some heavy weapon servitors inside an marine squad being led by a techmarine.

There is one phobos unit that prevents deepstriking within 12 of them. You can combine that with phobos librarian for them not being able to get shoot outside of 12. That's phenomenal backline objective holder that basically guarantees you hold onto it to turn 4 at least.

I agree with your conclusion Bricky. By removing the auras, space is opened for different types of units, as before units that did not contribute with buffs in area were at a disadvantage. By decreasing the lethality and with the lone operative rules, space is opened for specialized units without the risk of them dying instantly without doing anything. And by removing some of the customization, it does away with the Swiss army knife effect where you were able to customize your main units to do whatever you needed to. It will now be more necessary to use specialized units for different roles. In this regard, having increased vehicle resistance also helps, so that you need specialized troops to deal with them, for example.

The hammerfall bunker's defense array wording is interesting. The 4 times limitation is only for your opponents movement phase, while the trigger itself can happen at any time assuming it meets the prerequisites. Move shoot move strats/abilities are going to trigger shooting in the enemys shooting phase, possibly, depending on wording.

To add on to your closing thoughts regarding the matter of customization with these changes: although GW has lowered the amount of wargear options for many units, they have still given players a ton of choices to make in list building because of the unit restrictions when it comes to leader units. And they have incentivized us to be more experimental because all the leader units have such a diverse selection of abilities that can prove to be the new source of combos and expression when you pair them with certain bodyguard units. I am all for this new design philosophy.

I love it, it's making me think about all sorts of new combos. I've never really cared about the apothecary, but his revive has got me thinking about stuff like pairing him with hellblasters. So they can supercharge their attacks, shoot again if they kill themselves, and then he can bring one back next turn.

Seems another way to force sales. In fact everything about this new edition does. Leading us to believe rhinos could take primaris then bait/switched us and gave the tacticus keyword that stops that happening. Boost sales of a very old kit for a while, then pull the rug out and force us to also get primaris transports or a landraider as the rhino remains firstborn only. Then having restrictions like this means you have to buy lots of their kits to play certain units properly, more specialisation means more kits after all. Why sell kits that can be built to purpose (tac squad for company vets with special weapons) when you can sell a different kit for every weapon type

As a Ravenguard player I'm glad the stealth and hit n run units are good/have good combos, especially Shrike being finally viable is good news. Another thing to note, him only being able to lead firstborn units probably hints that they may release some more "conventional" jetpack primaris in the later release this year

Important thing to note is that Stormraven Gunship can now transport ANY Infantry and ANY Dreadnoughts! Which is just super fun! Unfortunately, with the "Tacticus" keyword we still get restrictions for repulsors and rhinos :c

It can only take a regular dread, ironclad, or brutalis dreads due to them having the pure "Dreadnought" keyword. The other variants don't have that, rather they say "Contemptor Dreadnought" or "Redemptor Dreadnought".

Hey bricky, you missed something with the outriders: the primaris chaplain on bike gives the squad dev.-wounds, if you slap bolter discipline on to the chaplain, you'll get exploding 6+, 5+ in dev doctrine and then you can use the storm of fire strat for +1 AP and ignore Cover. Combined with the mostly twinlinked weapons and thier 18"move, these 6 outriders+ATV+chaplain get a metric ****-ton of infantry mulching firepower at a 42" threat range. Against soft infantry like guard, maybe even Sisters and marines that's brutal.

The reductor pistol is, in essence, a cattle stunner for Space Marines; its so close range because its intended purpose is to deliver the Emperor's Peace to a battle brother too far wounded to save so his geneseed can be extracted. Presumably it can be pressed into use against enemy forces as well with the same kind of brutal effeicency.

Interesting that the relic terminators, the box dreadnaught and the contemptor dreadnaught are in there, in spite of the recent article that said they were going to legends. Maybe the outcry reversed that decision or maybe GW goofed and meant to say the relic dread and relic contemptor dread were going to legends. (Relic termies were said in a clarification post by GW to also be going to legends, yet there they are in the rules.)

Bricky was assuming those rules won’t be updated and those are the legends rule, but if that were the case, the other models going to legends would have rules in the list. It doesn’t make any sense, so either GW made a mistake in the article, or they changed their mind in the time between the article’s publication and the publication of the 10th rules PDF for space marines.

I think if you count wound rerolls…like with the twinlinked universal special rule then there’s actually a fairly larger number of rerolls than we thought hidden in the Tyranid codex…the pyrovore, broodlord, Tyranid warriors with melee weapons, hive tyrant with lash whip/bonesword, tyrannofex with fleshborer hive, raveners, and harpys have twinlinked on at least one of their weapon profiles…including the ones bricky mentioned already. If you don’t include twinlinked there’s only a few actual ways to get hit rerolls in the codex but the data sheets don’t necessarily need as many hit rerolls due to the existence of sustained hits and lethal hits which can be gained from hyper adaptations and unit special rules…

GW: We want to reduce re-rolls. GW: Our first army - the Tyranids - has 3 re-rolls in the whole army. GW: Our second army - The Space Marines - has a re-roll in half of it's units, it's usally full re-rolls and only sometimes re-roll 1s. Bricky: There are so few re-rolls here! God... I guess I don't want to know how bad re-rolls were for SMs in 9th. To me it seems pretty much like GW trying to make SMs more elite again by having high consistency through many re-rolls and also emphasize their specializations through the many special rules. They look really, really good. I expect them to be much more expensive again, which I guess is pretty good. And yeah, SMs are made for playing a lot of characters, which is pretty nice I guess. Especially those Smurfs... The Fist-Daddy? Juicy!

I played only a few games in 9th. My Tyranids were basically wiped by turn 2 in at least one of them. Yeah I don't get it. If Tyranids were outnumbering Marines 4 to 1 with damn near equal strength and numbers of attacks, then yeah I could understand not having elite rolls. But they get the rerolls, damn near the same number of attacks, and their attacks have better strength and AP usually.

There are no more overlapping auras and doctrine rerolls, oath is against one target practically resukting in 1-3 units having rerolls. They’re reduced.

I think that the 252 pages show how necessary was to remove the imperial HH from 40k. Marines have too much stuff, is just unfair from a game prospective. An this index doesn’t even includes the agents of the imperium. Also, it is possible to bring an Imperial Knight in a SM army in 10th? Do we have rules for it?

I disagree, several of the datasheets could have been condensed further, i.e. vanguard vets and vanguard vets jump pack. And they have the default contemptor in the index, how hard would it be to add weapon options to it. Additionally, gladiators, storm speeders, land speeders, etc. With just different weapon options could reduce the size of the index.

I played the Boy Scouts (ultramarines) through 9th. I'm gonna try my luck with nids for 10th. I already have almost 2k of nids. I barely made the cutoff at my local game store for the Leviathan release box allotment. Based on the disaster that was the 9th edition release, I put in a pre-order for the leviathan release ASAP.

2 of my favorite combos at fist glance is Judiciar+Bladeguard Veterans and Phobos Librarian+Eliminators. Bricky, Twin las-talon gets 2 shots because it had 4 in 9th. Its dang good fluffy fun that the Salamander characters can be included in to Infernus squad, cos ofcource they can.

One thing you glanced over is that tac marines are always going to be 9+1 the sergeant. Doesnt seem like you could combat squad them or have a 5 man squad like the intercessors

for the atv and attack bike, i do not believe if its part of the bike squad/outrider unit it gains the shoot back ability we have seen on many datasheets rules like "if this unit contains X model it can do Y" but the bike/outrider squads do NOT have that rule, despite having a statline and weapon options for the atv and attack bike from how i understand it, the atv and invade can basically be part of the bike/outrider squad, and so get a "bodyguard" of bikes, and the advance rule, OR they can be a seperate unit, lose their body guard and advance rule, but can shoot back if a nearby bike unit is shot if they could still shoot back when part of the bike squad i am 100% certain the shoot back rule would be IN the rules for the bike squads, and follow the "if X model is in the unit it can do Y" format that we have seen in other cards

If you just had them for running heavy weapons you could always proxy them as devastators.

Loving Bricky's purport as always 😄 Having read through the index and probably missed a lot, there's a few things that really jump out at me. First, what the hell did they do to the Vanguard Veterans? The unit known for having a ton of versatility with melee weapons, and suddenly they get stuck with nothing more than a slightly fancier chainsword?! They have more than twenty melee weapons in that box, and suddenly it doesn't even matter which one you pick?! On that note, what the heck is the Thunder Hammer doing on the Bike Captain's data sheet when he's not allowed to take it?! Also, where does it say we're limited to one captain and two lieutenants now? I'm assuming it must do somewhere, but I can't see it 🤔 Griping aside though, there's a few possibilities that jump out at me, which sound interesting in theory. Bike Captain leading a squad that includes an Attack Bike - 18" of movement, and still able to fire the Multimelta at the end? Very nice! Bike Chaplain leading Outriders, gaining devastating wounds; fish for sixes with the barrage of twin-linked bolters, and charge in to finish whatever is still standing! Impulser filled with a Desolation Squad - firing a load of super-krak missiles on the move, while protected by a shield dome? Probably terrible, but it sounds hilarious! Using the Tank Shock strat on the Brutalis when it charges, averaging eight mortal wounds before the fight even starts? Just about makes up for the nerfed talons.

You can have 3 of every single captain and lieutenant if you want to and have the points for them. Tank Shock is max 6 mortals.

@@Torguemada good to know about the captain - I really didn't think that was the case 👍 You have a cap of six mortals on tank shock - which the Brutalis will almost always hit with 14 dice - but he also gets his own version which could spike up to six mortals but will probably average more like two. I still can't believe Brutalis talons are now the same as a Redemptor fist, but with one more attack and twin linked...
